Sports journalist Stuart Scott died on Sunday following a long battle with cancer. He became a popular face of Espn as the anchor of SportsCenter and other programs, but it was his catchphrases - "booyah" being the most popular of the bunch - that made him a household name. Weekend box office estimates have come in and Marvel/Paramount’s Thor (review here) is still number one, despite two new release in Priest (review here) and Bridesmaids. Thor grabbed another $34 million, bringing its total domestic box office to $119 in two weeks. Opening at number two and above most predictions, was Bridesmaids, which is looking to be 2011 surprise hit of the year. It earned a strong $24.5 million.
Still strong at number three is Universal’s Fast Five (review here) with another $19.5, bringing its total domestically here to $169 million. Even better for Universal is that the film is still performing extremely well overseas, and when you add its domestic and foreign intakes together, the sequel has netted a whopping $441 million in just a handful of weeks.
Screen Gems’ Priest opened at number four with a limp $14 million. The film’s 3D was post-converted, and didn’t look to bad, but studios...
