Lifetime saw V.C. Andrews’s Casteel Family movie series ranking as cable’s #2 new drama series among W25-54* for 2019. Now, the network will expand its footprint within the writer’s universe by greenlighting a five movie series based on the Ruby Landry novels.
The first of the five new original movies, V.C. Andrews’ Ruby, will star Australian twins Raechelle Banno as “Ruby” and Karina Banno as “Giselle.”
Watched over by her loving Grandmère Catherine, Ruby Landry is filled with hope as love blooms with her high school sweetheart Paul Tate. But lingering thoughts of her mysterious father and her mother’s death often creep into Ruby’s mind. As dark family secrets begin to reveal themselves when Paul’s parents forbid him from seeing Ruby, Ruby is further devastated when her beloved Grandmère passes away.

Lorena Bobbitt’s story is getting the biopic treatment.
Lifetime has greenlit “I Was Lorena Bobbitt,” a feature about the woman who became a household name and made tabloid headlines when she cut off her husband’s penis with a knife in 1993 after years of abuse.
Bobbitt was the subject of a Jordan Peele-produced Amazon docuseries which came out less than a year ago, and this new retelling has Bobbitt herself on board as an executive producer. Casting on the project is underway and production will begin later this month. The film, announced by A+E Networks president of programming Rob Sharenow at Lifetime’s Television Critics’ Association winter tour press day, will follow Bobbitt’s “journey from a wide-eyed, immigrant bride to a battered wife into an unlikely media sensation.”

H.G. Wells' classic alien invasion story War of the Worlds is being adapted into a TV series. You would think a big epic project like this would be developed by a major cable network or streaming service, but nope... it's coming from MTV.
I don't watch any series on MTV because none of them look very good. I tried to watch their Scream series, but I just couldn't get into it. War of the Worlds has been adapted several times over the years, the most recent of which was Steven Spielberg's 2005 film, which ended up being a disappointment. I didn't care for the second half of that film.
Jeff Davis and writer Andrew Cochran, the team behind the series Teen Wolf, will be bringing it to life. But since I never cared for Teen Wolf, I'm not expecting anything special. I just imagine the War of the Worlds...

Moving ever away from their roots MTV are setting their sights on the skies, with a new TV show based on War of the Worlds. Deadline are reporting that Teen Wolf writer Andrew Cochran is heading up the adaptation. H. G. Wells’ 1898 novel has proved fertile ground for adaptation. Along with Haskins’ 1953 film […]

It’s amazing the things Hollywood is able to adapt into TV shows nowadays. Bates Motel is a series based on a single book (or movie), Fargo is a series based on a single film, From Dusk Till Dawn is based on a single film (not its terrible sequels), and yet somehow the filmmakers were able to take that material and stretch it for the small screen. Now it looks like the science fiction novel from H.G. Wells, The War of the Worlds, is the latest in this trend.
According to Deadline, MTV will be adapting the classic alien invasion tale into a contemporary drama series. The adaptation will be written by Teen Wolf writer Andrew Cochran.
Of course, this is by no means the first time the book has been adapted. Perhaps the most notable adaptation came in the form of the world famous Orson Welles radio adaptation in...

H. G. Wells’ 1898 novel “The War of the Worlds” has been a source of inspiration for many in Hollywood. The sci-fi book has been adapted multiple times on radio, film and television, and is now returning to the small screen once again.
Per Deadline, “Teen Wolf” creator Jeff Davis and writer Andrew Cochran, along with The Firm’s Jeff Kwatinetz and Josh Barry, will adapt “War of the Worlds” as a TV series for MTV. While no additional details were revealed, the show is a passion project for Barry whose grandfather, Gene Barry, was the star of the 1953 film adaptation.

The long-running trope that the “Music Television” nomenclature of MTV is meaningless since the channel rarely plays music videos certainly remains relevant. However, as of late, the “television” portion has been fulfilled with an expansion from their notorious reality programs towards quality scripted television like the sprawling series The Shannara Chronicles. Now, an upcoming project will showcase their contemporary take on the Victorian-era prototype of the original alien invasion story.

Teen Wolf is drawing to a close over at MTV after six seasons, and the network is keen to fill the void by teeing up a new collaboration with series creator Jeff Davis and writer Andrew Cochran.
It involves repackaging another established property, according to Deadline, now that David and Cochran are on board to reboot War of the Worlds as a live-action TV series. First adapted for the screen in 1953 by director Byron Haskin, before Steven Spielberg and Tom Cruise – hot off their work on Minority Report – engineered a modern redo some five decades later, it’s understood this fresh take will circle back to H.G. Wells’ indelible sci-fi novel.

Lifetime is officially moving forward with a third film in the "Flowers in the Attic" series, based on the novels by V.C. Andrews.
Jason Lewis and Rachael Carpani take over the roles of Christopher and Cathy Dollanganger respectively in "If There Be Thorns". The pair now live together as man and wife in California with Cathy's two sons (one played by Mason Cook), who are unaware of the nature of their parents’ relationship.
It's unclear which, if any, other cast members from either previous movie will return for the film which will air in 2015. An adaptation of the fourth book, "Seeds of Yesterday," is still planned and that would air late in 2015.
Andy Cochran will pen the script which will be directed by Independent Spirit Award nominee Nancy Savoca ("If These Walls Could Talk").

Helmed by actor-turned-director Scott Coffey, who many may recognise from 80s films such as Some Kind of Wonderful and Space Camp, Adult World is another in a long-line of American indie dramas – you know the type: the ones that mix witty dialogue and a hip soundtracks in the hopes of creating something loftier than the rest. This particular example follows Amy (Roberts), a naive college graduate who believes she’s destined to be a great poet, who begrudgingly accepts a job at a sex shop while she pursues a mentorship with her idol, reclusive writer Rat Billings (Cusack).

Every once in a while a terrific small-budget indie comes along and nobody even blinks. Adult World, directed by Scott Coffey (known mostly as an actor, particularly for his roles in David Lynch movies like Mulholland Dr. and Lost Highway) and written by Andy Cochran, could easily get lost in the waves of well-intentioned but ultimately undistinguished little movies that wash up on the VOD shores every week. But it's so smart — and so specific about the way young people's expectations of glory can either funnel more crap into the world or stem that crap's flow — that it deserves to be plucked from the drink.

Everyone wants to be commended for their work. One of the inalienable facets of the American education system, and one that’s stirred up a fair amount of criticism in recent years, is a focus on numbers as an end-all. A high Gpa, strong Act scores and a large amount of course credits are valued above all else in high schools and colleges, to the point where students actively compete to see who can score highest. The C, once meant to imply an average score, is no longer acceptable – only the golden A will do. The system’s critics claim that boiling education down to numbers is really missing the point, and that all the A’s and 36′s can’t help students if reaching those targets prevents them from understanding the purpose behind their education or, worse, deluding themselves into believing that high scores are enough to guarantee career success.

The drought between his debut and sophomore will come to an end in 2013. A full eight years since Ellie Parker (Sundance ’05), which was based on the short of the same name (Sundance ’01), Scott Coffey’s Adult World was shot in Syracuse, NY back in February with a trio that includes Emma Roberts (who attends the fest yearly in four back to back years with The Winning Season, Twelve, The Art of Getting By, Celeste & Jesse Forever), Evan Peters and John Cusack. Wolf Parade frontman Dan Boeckner scored the comedy which I think Sundance programmers might want to include because it fits a certain niche demographic that they like to sample yearly.

Rising young star Emma Roberts (The Art of Getting By) takes the lead in upcoming comedy, Adult World, which sees director Scott Coffey (Ellie Parker) making his sophomore feature behind the camera.
Starring alongside Roberts will be a promising cast, headed up by John Cusack (High Fidelity) and Evan Peters (Kick-Ass), and now The Playlist have debuted a handful of great first-look images.
“A satirical coming-of-age comedy, centered on the life of Amy Anderson (Roberts) who has just graduated with a degree in poetry. Convinced she is the next star in the literary world, she moves back with her parents to write poetry and find her place in the world. Very soon — saddled with a stack of rejection letters, unpaid student loans, and no money — she decides to find a job in the real world. The only place that will hire her is an adult bookstore called Adult World. It...

Exclusive: Lifetime has greenlighted Restless Virgins, an original movie which has cast Switched At Birth star Vanessa Marano and former Desperate Housewives co-star Charlie Carver as two of the leads. The film is inspired by Abigail Jones and Marissa Miley’s book Restless Virgins: Love, Sex And Survival In Prep School, an account of the sex scandal, which rocked venerable Massachusetts prep school Milton Academy during the 2004-05 school year. The movie depicts a world where privileged teens run wild at a New England prep school, thriving on exploitation and manipulation, culminating in a sex controversy. Gilmore Girls alumna Marano will play a scholarship student and the editor of the school newspaper who exposes a sex tape made by the senior hockey players that blows the lid off the controversy. Carver will play one of the students embroiled in the scandal — a wealthy and calculating senator’s son. Jason Lapeyre...

Shannon Woodward, who has brought some serious snark and sassiness to television's The Riches and Raising Hope, has just signed on to star opposite Emma Roberts in the coming-of-age comedy Adult World. Penned by Andy Cochran, this female-fronted feature is meant to satirize the contemporary post-graduate delirium that afflicts so many twenty-somethings with existential crisis and ennui. Woodward and Roberts will portray a pair of jaded roommates who bond over their shared disgust of the world at large. Early reports suggest the film will center on Robert's role, an aspiring poet named Amy, who believes she is destined for greatness yet ends up getting a day job at an adult book store.hence the movie's title. Meanwhile, Woodward will play her surely surly gal pal Candace, who Deadline describes as "a punk/goth anarchist sporting a nose ring and a Ramones shirt." I don't know about you, but that string...

There will be different versions of the following story from both parties considering one report from EW has Miley Cyrus dropping out of Hotel Transylvania on her own and another report from E! saying she was forced out of the project. Either way you wont be seeing Cyrus’ name attached to the movie. While neither can confirm what happened to Cyrus, both sources are confirming that Selena Gomez will be taking her place in the animated movie set to be directed by Genndy Tartakovsky. Gomez will play as Mavis, Dracula’s rebellious teenage daughter. Gomez joins David Koechner, David Spade, Kevin Smith, Fran Drescher, Steve Buscemi, Molly Shannon, Cee Lo Green, and Andy Samburg.
The film is officially described as follows:
Welcome to the Hotel Transylvania, Dracula’s (Sandler) lavish five-stake resort, where monsters and their families can live it up, free from meddling from the human world. But here...

Hey look, another movie about young New Yorkers dealing with problems; it’s only been five minutes since the last one and I was going through withdrawals. Deadline reports that John Cusack and Evan Peters have joined the cast of Adult World, a movie about the ups and downs of post-graduate life that is currently shooting in upstate New York. The movie stars Emma Roberts as Amy, who has just graduated with a degree in Poetry (Ha!) and moves back in with her parents so she can concentrate on being the next literary star.
Instead, reality rears its ugly head and with student loans and other expenses needing to get paid, Amy is forced to get a job at an erotic bookstore called Adult World. You can pretty much write the movie yourself from there. Cusack will play Amy’s hero and mentor, a poet who was considered one of...

Infinity Media has signed up actor Scott Coffey to direct the coming-of-age comedy Adult World, which centres on a college graduate who believes she is destined to be the next great American poet and stumbles upon a job at an adult-video store. Andy Cochran wrote the script, and Coffey will oversee a rewrite.
Infinity have already had some success in the teen drama department with Saved - which is a really under-rated movie that seems to have slipped under a lot of people’s radar; and actor Coffey – whose only other directing gig was the film Ellie Parker (which he also wrote) – is no stranger to the coming-of-age genre, having starred in many of the 80’s best: SpaceCamp, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Some Kind of Wonderful and Satisfaction.
