Gregory Allen Howard, the first African American screenwriter for a 100 million drama with Remember The Titans, died today in Miami after a brief illness, his publicist said. He was 70.
Howard also was the only African American screenwriter to write a spec script that became a 100 million movie, also for Remember the Titans, which starred Denzel Washington and was produced by Jerry Bruckheimer.

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not yet watched Season 1, Episode 7 of Disney Plus’ “WandaVision.”
Despite the best speculative musings of the internet, Reed Richards (a.k.a. Mr. Fantastic) did not show up on the latest episode of “WandaVision,” and it seems pretty likely now that he never will. In truth, the friend Monica was going to see was just some random S.W.O.R.D. buddy named Major Goodner (Rachael Thompson) — a character with no obvious connection or resonance within the Marvel comics.
But no matter. The third-to-last installment of Marvel Studios’ wild and wacky TV adventure still managed to deliver not one, but two highly anticipated plot turns: the transformation of Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) into the superpowered Photon, and the revelation that nosy neighbor Agnes (Kathryn Hahn) is really the powerful witch Agatha Harkness.

The coronavirus has shut down film and TV production, so horror filmmakers Matt Leslie (“Summer of ’84”) and Dylan Mulick (“Nvrlnd”) decided to take matters into their own hands and film a horror short, titled “Zoom Cloud Hack – #91784 – The Tribe Murders,” in the confines of their own home.
“We got together for coffee one day, socially distanced of course, and Dylan said, ‘dude I’m climbing walls, I need to do something,’ and I said, ‘well what we can do?'” Leslie told TheWrap. “We started talking about making a horror short and Dylan came up with the Zoom idea and then we started riffing.”
A day later, the duo had a script, Mulick said. And a day and a half after that, they were fully cast with actors they felt confident in to pull together a film that wasn’t going to be pieced together on a set.

In Hulu’s new thriller “Light as a Feather,” a simple slumber party game becomes a matter of life and death. But in typical teen drama fashion, just about everything else feels the same way.
An adaptation of Zoe Aarsen’s hugely popular Wattpad story-turned-novel, the 10-episode drama follows five girls who play an ill-advised game of “Light as a Feather, Stiff as a Board” in a graveyard and then have to contend with a potentially deadly curse.
Taking a page from other genre-inflected dramas like Freeform’s “Pretty Little Liars” and The CW’s moody Archie comics adaptation “Riverdale,” “Light as a Feather” carefully intertwines real mortal peril with typical high school anxieties — splintering friendships, burgeoning romances, overbearing parents — to create a best emotional approximation of life as a teenager. Which is to say, sometimes joyful, often sweet, but mostly just terrifying and miserable.
