After a massive setback a few weeks ago, when directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller were allegedly fired from the production, the upcoming Han Solo spinoff is now back on track with Ron Howard coming in to steer the ship and take their place. While we haven’t yet had a look at any of the scenes that the director’s now shooting, some snaps that were reportedly taken back when Miller and Lord were still helming the movie have leaked online today, and you can check them out in the gallery up above.
The images, though not great quality, give us another look at Alden Ehrenreich in costume as a younger Han Solo, as well as our first glimpse at Woody Harrelson’s character, Beckett. We still don’t know too much about him,...

Maybe it was the hour+ buildup to the big reveal of the second "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" trailer that had us already primed for an emotional experience or maybe it's just the sheer, unadulterated excitement about the project, but at the end of the nearly two-minute-long clip, we were on the verge of tears. If this movie isn't everything we'd hoped it'd be, at the very least it will be remembered as the best-marketed movie of all time.
The teaser begins, as the first one did, with a slow pan against a desert landscape (which we learned was not, in fact, Tatooine but a new planet called Jakku. In the background is a crashed Star Destroyer, one that we can assume from the panel, contains Finn (John Boyega), the plucky stormtrooper from the first trailer. Then the trailer ramps up the nostalgia quotient with the sound of a familiar...

Let's face it, nobody in their right mind thinks The Phantom Menace is a good movie, but Liam Neeson's Qui-Gon Jinn is generally considered to be one of the few bright spots. The character met his end in that film thanks to dual-lightsaber wielding Sith Lord Darth Maul (another highlight), but with all of these planned spin-offs in the pipeline, what about a solo adventure for Master Qui-Gon? Of course there's the possibility that he could return as a "force ghost" in some capacity too, and Liam Neeson seems open to either option. Have a look at his video interview with Yahoo, in which he also shares his concerns about the practicality of the new cross-guard Lighsaber seen in the hand of the mysterious Kylo Ren in the teaser trailer for The Force Awakens. Starring original cast members Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, Kenny Baker...

Chewbacca (apparently he won't have a robotic arm after all) and Bb-8 should need no introduction, but what about the other three? Well to the left of the little droid appears to be a figure of Daisy Ridley's character, Rey, and next to her is what looks to be Jon Boyega's Finn, but out of his Stormtrooper gear and in some civvies. Finally we have the mysterious masked man (woman?), who resembles a character from some of the leaked concept art that's believed to be the person we see wielding the Lightsaber in the trailer, Kylo Ren. Another theory is that it might be whoever Gwendoline Christie is playing, as she's rumoured to be some sort of imperial inquisitor type. What do you guys think? Als Ice Bucket Challenge is the meme that can't be stopped. But unlike planking, or owling, or whatever came after owling, the Ibc is doing a lot of good. So far this year the Als Association has raised nearly $80 million. The uptick has been so sharp that think pieces are being written about if blending narcissism with charity has forever changed the fundraising landscape (for the better). So behold the power of this fully operational social media challenge. From Han Solo to Luke Skywalker to Chewbacca and beyond, the denizens of a galaxy far, far away are helping raise awareness for Als. The elusive Daisy Ridley performed her Ibc in the safety of the shower. Harrison Ford kept it short and sweet. Mark Hamill adorkably tried to game the system and utterly failed. Producer Donald De Line (Green Lantern, The Italian Job) is still hard at work on "The Jetsons," a live-action movie based on the 1960s TV cartoon show that was originally in development at the same time as "Yogi Bear." According to Variety, Van Robichaux and Evan Susser have just been hired to re-write "The Jetsons" script, which has had several writers, including Adam F Goldberg (Aliens in the Attic). Back in 2009, Robert Rodriguez was attached to direct the film. Then Peter Segal (Get Smart, Anger Management) stepped in to replace him. Right now, a direct has yet join the production. Robichaux and Susser co-wrote "Chewie," a fake biopic about Peter Mayhew, the man who played Chewbacca, and his time on the set of "Star Wars." Their script made it to Hollywood's 2011 Black List, which is a list of the best unproduced screenplays.
- 2/8/2012
- WorstPreviews.com
The 2011 Black List, the Top Unproduced Screenplays of the year has been released. The best unproduced screenplays from The Black List 2011 is compiled by votes from over 300 “execs, agency guys, and high-level assistants. Titled The Black List, the compendium highlights both established screenwriters and up-and-comers, and has served as a launching pad in the past for projects like Juno, Lars and the Real Girl, and (500) Days of Summer. Last year’s list included Margin Call, Crazy, Stupid, Love, The Hunger Games, and Snow White and the Huntsman.”
Regarding the validity of The Black List, things to keep in mind:
some of these screenplays have already been acquired and are already in development, though…none will have entered principal photography by December 31, 2011. Also worth pointing out is that, as in previous years, there have been rumors that some of the participants have been accused of using the Black List to promote their own clients or friends.

[1] Each December since 2004, studio executive Franklin Leonard has compiled the best unproduced screenplays of the year, as voted by hundreds of execs, agency guys, and high-level assistants. Titled The Black List, the compendium highlights both established screenwriters and up-and-comers, and has served as a launching pad in the past for projects like Juno, Lars and the Real Girl, and (500) Days of Summer. Last year's list included Margin Call, Crazy, Stupid, Love, The Hunger Games, and Snow White and the Huntsman. It should be noted that the headline is somewhat misleading -- some of these screenplays have already been acquired and are already in development, though according to Leonard none will have entered principal photography by December 31, 2011. Also worth pointing out is that, as in previous years, there have been rumors that some of the participants have been accused of using the Black List to promote their own clients or friends.

Franklin Leonard‘s Black List is the go-to list for the hottest unproduced screenplays in Hollywood. Just last year we got Margin Call, which is now one of the most-praised films of the year. The list also includes Doug Liman‘s next film, the thriller All You Need is Kill. David Guggenheim‘s Safe House hits theaters next spring with Ryan Reynolds and Denzel Washington starring. Chan-wook Park‘s English-language debut Stoker was also in the top 10, along with Ben Affleck‘s recently wrapped CIA hostage film Argo, both arriving next fall.
Today, the top 10 has been unveiled and we get quite a mix of genres. There is a satirical behind-the-scenes film from Chewbacca aka Peter Mayhew‘s point-of-view, a zombie film, a homosexual WWII drama, a Melancholia-esque drama on separate people finding peace before the world ends, a space film about a botched Apollo 18 mission and much more...

Why am I not watching The Clone Wars on a more regular basis? Better yet -- why aren't you? Maybe you are and you've just been keeping it a secret. Damn you.
Dave Filoni and Joel Aron, the masterminds behind Cartoon Networks' highly successful CG-animated Clone Wars series, appeared at Wondercon this weekend to talk the recent finale of Season 3, what it takes to bring the show to life and what's in store for Season 4. The message was clear: bigger. Much, much bigger.
Most of the discussion of Season 3 revolved around the finale, in which a familiar Wookie made an appearance. Filoni told Entertainment Weekly in an interview Sunday that he didn't know if Chewie could be a regular: "Every time you use one of the classic characters, you have to wonder, 'How would this affect what he’s thinking later on?' But I love that we have him and other Wookiees now,...

The first weekend in March, I got invited to come to Zeus Comics and Collectables during their early morning filming to be an extra in their doorq-tastic Web series, The Variants. I accepted, of course, and woke up at the crack of dawn toting a waffle iron, spiky curling thingy from the 80s, a hand mixer and a C’thulhu t-shirt from woot.com.
The eighth episode of The Variants had been released earlier that week online, but with my work and social schedule, I hadn’t been able to catch it yet, so I figured I’d get a few sneak peeks at what was in store for me during filming since each episode usually contains references to previous entries and hits at future ones.
The process was hilarious and fun, as usual. Great continuity jokes, excitement with ice cream sandwiches, spy work and all kinds of fun still...
