As I have also mentioned in the past, after the first two seasons, the quality of “My Hero Academia” decreased significantly, with the fifth one, which was essentially a preparatory one for the big clash that was about to follow, being probably the worst. Thankfully, and although a number of the issues the series faces are still present, the sixth one signifies a return to form for Kenji Nagasaki and the whole crew behind the title.

The path the franchise of “My Hero Academia” seems to be taking is not exactly ideal. As I was writing in my review of the fourth season, “Kenji Nagasaki introduces new characters almost constantly, to the point that some have to die if he is to keep the story compact and coherent, something that does actually happen in this season”. This tendency continues in the fifth even more intently, with Nagasaki introducing a whole new army of super villains, with the plethora of new individuals essentially having taken the place of the intricacy of the first seasons. Let us take things from the beginning, though.

In a distinct sign that context has given its place to impression, the season falls head-on in the action almost immediately, with class A-1 receiving “real-life” training against other heroes posing as villains, before they get into a tournament of sorts against Class B.

The truth remains that whatever one talks about regarding the anime industry this year, the success of “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie” overshadows everything in the category. However, the year was once more quite good for the industry, at least content-wise, with a number of titles that are bound to make an impact in the future coming to the fore. A number of new trends also appeared, with two titles that focus on the humanization of animals, a number of ones that presented a distinctly European setting, and a number of series that were original, not based on manga that is. Lastly, Masaaki Yuasa proved, once more, that he is on the very top of anime directors.

The fourth season of the widely popular shonen anime continues the story directly where the previous left off, particularly regarding the villains and the meeting of Overhaul with the League of Villains. The arc offered by the former, who happens to be the heir of a large yakuza group, adds some very interesting elements to the narrative, through a clash that eventually becomes a thin and reluctant alliance, Overhaul’s relationship with his daughter, “Eri”, and the new shattering technology he introduces as a weapon against the heroes. The largest part of season 4 explores the aforementioned elements, with Izuku’s apprenticeship to Nighteye actually having a secondary role. The fact that Overhaul emerges as a captivating villain both as a character and regarding his powers and his group of super villains, benefits the title immensely, and is the one that actually carries it with success until the spectacular ending (?) of his arc.

Ticket sales at Australian cinemas plunged to a new low last weekend as coronavirus-wary audiences ignored almost all the new releases.
The top 20 titles generated a mere $6.79 million, 25 per cent down on the previous frame, which had been the worst weekend of the year, according to Numero.
This morning exhibitors and distributors were struggling to recall the last time the weekend grosses fell to such a nadir.
Typifying the market’s malaise, only Sony Pictures’ Bloodshot and Universal’s The Invisible Man in week three cracked $1 million.
In the Us, where some cinemas have closed, the estimated weekend take of $US55.3 million was the lowest since 1998.
The government’s ban on gatherings of more than 500 people has not impacted cinemas, at least for now.
Hoyts Cinemas CEO Damian Keogh tells If: “We have no immediate plans to close cinemas but will be guided by government policy.

Funimation’s Wednesday opening of Kenji Nagasaki’s anime My Hero Academia: Heroes Rising led yesterday’s box office with $1.7M at 1,275 theaters according to early morning estimates.
Though much smaller than the $7M first day Wednesday opening of Funimation’s Dragon Ball Super: Broly prior to Mlk weekend last year, My Hero Academia: Heroes Rising had enough bucks to beat the first Wednesday of Disney/20th Century Studios’ Call of the Wild which made $1.5M in second place (cume at $31.2M) and Paramount’s second Wednesday of Sonic the Hedgehog which grossed $1.1M in third place (running cume at $111M).
Heroes Rising is the second film based on the manga My Hero Academia by Kōhei Horikoshi and takes place during the fourth season of the TV show. In the sequel, a group of youths aspire to become professional superheroes, and fight in a world full of people with abilities,...

It’s hard to imagine that a general American audience might take to new Japanese anime “My Hero Academia: Heroes Rising” beyond the already robust fanbase of “My Hero Academia,” the popular shonen-style boy’s adventure manga and anime about teenage superhero Izuku Midoriya as he leads his super-powered high school classmates in becoming better team players and aspiring heroes.
Which isn’t to say that uninitiated moviegoers will have trouble understanding the plot of “Heroes Rising,” which follows Izuku and U.A. High School’s Class 1-a as they try to stop multi/over-powered villain Nine (Johnny Yong Bosch) from killing the residents of Nabu Island. “Heroes Rising” is, like the ongoing anime that it supplements, full of expository dialogue and flashbacks that help new viewers understand what they’re looking at, and why it matters.
Still, it’s hard to imagine anybody but fans caring about the movie’s big climax,...

Following the events of the first season, with the unexpected appearance of the League of Villains and their subsequent fight with the students, the series takes a whole other turn, presenting one of the favorites themes of the shonen anime, the tournament.
Through a series of games that include team and individual fights among all the branches of the academy (Hero, General Studies, Business and Support) the protagonists manage to “grow”, while we learn a lot about the shuttering past of Todoroki and his relationship with his father, Enji, number 2 in the list of heroes after All Might.
These two axes, the battles and Todoroki’s past form the basic structure of the second season, which continues in same Naruto-like, shonen ways of the first one, although the similarities with the iconic title are much less than before. The concept of the main character that gets...
