If you’re a fan of the 1980s and of wearing sport coats over brightly colored t-shirts, then we’ve got some good news for you. On Tuesday, actor Don Johnson told ITV “This Morning” hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield that “we’re kicking around some thoughts” on a potential “Miami Vice” reboot.
Quick, Tubbs (Philip Michael Thomas) — go pick up your dry-cleaning from 1987.
And no, Johnson wasn’t talking about the “Miami Vice” reboot Vin Diesel and Chris Morgan had in development at NBC in 2017. That one, which had a script from Peter Macmanus (“The Mist”), is no longer in the works, a person with knowledge of its development told TheWrap.

“Amazingly enough, it’s come back around,” Johnson said of his classic undercover-detective drama. “It seems they’ve run out of ideas for good shows.

A reboot of the classic 80s action series Miami Vice is currently in development at NBC. Some of you might be happy to learn that the same team behind the Fast and Furious franchise, including Vin Diesel and screenwriter Chris Morgan, are developing the series as Executive Producers.
I enjoyed watching Miami Vice when I was a kid. It was a fun series that starred Don Johnson as James “Sonny” Crockett and it had a pretty solid run from 1984 to 1990. Throughout the course of its run, the series also featured actors like Edward James Olmos, Gene Simmons, Pam Grier, Laurence Fishburne, Viggo Mortensen, and John Leguizamo.
There was also a feature film directed by Michael Mann in 2006 with Jamie Foxx and Colin Farrell. I wasn’t a big fan of that flick as it was fairly boring and very forgettable, which was a shame because I think Michael Mann is a great director.

Can you feel it calling in the air tonight? A reboot of Miami Vice is in the works at NBC, according to Variety.
The reboot is being brought to us by Vin Diesel's production company, One Race Television, and Chris Morgan productions. Morgan has penned six of the Fast & Furious movies. Considering the Fast & Furious franchise started with a cop and 2 Fast 2 Furious took place in Miami, it's not a bad fit.
Peter Macmanus, known for writing TV series such as Satisfaction and The Mist, will be writing the script. No executive producers have been announced but Variety muses that "it’s more than likely Macmanus, Morgan, and Diesel will all serve as EPs".

NBC is looking to reboot one of its most successful procedurals.
The network is teaming with Vin Diesel to develop a Miami Vice TV series.
The project, which has been in the works for months, is being driven by Shana Waterman (24: Live Another Day, Wayward Pines), the former Fox Broadcasting executive who now serves as head of television for Diesel's One Race Television production company. Miami Vice is the first project to come out of Diesel's first-look deal with Universal Television. Diesel and Waterman will exec produce alongside Chris Morgan and Ainsley Davies via the former's overall deal with Universal Television. Peter Macmanus (Spike TV's The Mist) will pen the script.
The Miami Vice reboot marks a reteaming for Morgan and Diesel, who have worked on all of the Fast and the Furious movies together.

Nearly 30 years after Miami Vice last aired on television, the series could return to the small screen thanks to a reboot spearheaded by Vin Diesel.
The Fast and the Furious franchise star and producer Chris Morgan, who penned six of the Fast & Furious films, will revive the series for NBC, which originally broadcast the Michael Mann crime drama from 1984 to 1990.
Although Diesel seems tailor-made to take on the Crockett role popularized by Don Johnson in the original series – and Colin Farrell in the 2006 big-screen adaptation – it appears that the actor...

Exclusive: William Petersen’s return to television is being put on hold. I’ve learned that the CSI alum is leaving the Cinemax/Gk-tv drama pilot Hurt People, which he was to executive produce and star in. Petersen has been a major driver behind the project penned by former production executive Peter Macmanus in his writing debut. Petersen and his producing partner Cynthia Chvatal responded to Macmanus’ script and teamed with Graham King’s Gk-tv to develop it. With Petersen on board as star and executive producer, Hurt People, about a veteran hitman (Petersen) employed by the crime family that killed his wife, was taken out to cable networks in March, eventually landing at Cinemax in April with a pilot order. I hear that in the past couple of months, Petersen’s and the writer-producers’ vision for where the project should go began to diverge, leading to his decision to...

HBO has temporarily suspended the use of horses during production on Season 2 of David Milch and Michael Mann's drama "Luck" after a third horse was injured on the set and euthanized.
The network is working with the American Humane Association and the Chrb to investigate the incident, with a certified safety representative on the premises of the Santa Anita stable. All safety precautions were in place.
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals called for production on the series to be shut down and blasted the production for its use of what they claim are unfit or injured horses.

Exclusive: In his first series role since concluding his nine-year turn on CSI, William Petersen is set to star in and executive produce Hurt People, a drama series set up at Graham King and Tim Headington’s Gk-tv. The project, written by Peter Macmanus, centers on Hollis Brown (Petersen), a veteran hitman employed by the crime family that killed his wife. Brown has been enlisted to hunt down his estranged daughter who is intent on destroying those responsible for her mother’s death. Brown is a stark departure from Petersen’s character on CBS’ CSI, the brooding and likable Gil Grissom. Because of Hurt People‘s dark tone, I hear the series is targeting primarily cable networks as well as emerging original programming players like Netflix. Petersen will executive produce the project, which will be taken out shortly, with his producing partner Cynthia Chvatal, Macmanus, King, Headington and Gk-tv president Craig Cegielski.
