Milan Sv. Djurdjevic
- Composer
- Music Department
Award winning composer, artist of great imagination and fullness of musical expression, was first fascinated by music in early childhood and has been mostly inspired by the music written for Star Wars and therefore created a vision - to be is to compose. His scores range from the grand classic symphonic settings to smaller, more intimate chamber music. Perfectly capable of managing various styles and injecting his own personality into each, Milan is committed to capturing the unique soul of the story. With his broad musical understanding, he is able to reflect the visual experience in a music score filled with dramatic subtext and emotional sophistication. He is also experienced as a producer, programmer, musical assistant and orchestrator.
Born in 1977 in Belgrade, Serbia, where he made his first steps in music, by learning to play violin, trombone and piano, Milan pursued his dream towards a career in film composing. He graduated composition at Faculty of Music Arts, Department of Composition & Orchestration at Belgrade University, Serbia, where he also gained his MA degree in Music Composition and Orchestration. While still at the faculty, Milan caught the attention of several directors from Spain (Horacio Alcala "Le Fil" 2007 short film, Enrique Ruiz documentary "Grissi Siknis" 2008). Since then, he scored for numerous shorts and documentaries. Documentary "Kosma" 2013 by Sonja Blagojevic, for which he got an award at ACAMPADOC for best music, "Jet Set" 2011 first animated series in Serbia by Nenad Mitic, documentary road movie "Milan Tarot" 2010, by Ivan Ikic.
Sensing that formal music education does not offer enough practice to students interested in composing, Milan spent two years teaching Composing & Orchestration, as well as other related subjects at two musical high schools in Belgrade - "Stankovic" and "Mokranjac"(2009-2010). Teacher's position gave him a new insight and priceless educational and social experience in communicating with young people.
He works as a artistic director at Cultural Centre "Students' City". This position offers him various professional challenges and opportunity to gain valuable experience in culture events management. He is committed to constantly building connections with young people, organizing musical events in the Cultural Centre for the population of 4,000 university students. Organizing performances of Serbian and foreign music bands, monthly programs, liaising with clients, planning budget, briefing papers, reports and presentations, organizing workshops and lectures is a part of his everyday work, which resulted in music program being most attended at the Cultural Centre "Students' City".
Nevertheless, Milan is actively pursuing his career as film composer. He scored original soundtrack for documentary "Chasing a Dream" directed by Mladen Mitrovic (joint co-production of Serbia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Croatia and Council of Europe). Documentary is listed by the Council of Europe as one of the Millennium projects. Winner of the HT Eronet Audience Award as a Best Documentary Film @ Sarajevo Film Festival 2015. In 2016 he won FIPRESCI award for best music in Serbian film for motion picture "Panama", directed by prominent Serbian author Pavle Vuckovic, which was premiered @ Cannes Film Festival 2015.
