Anyone who knew Karl Lagerfeld is surely smiling while thinking about how the popular and revered late designer might react to the Costume Institute exhibition Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty, which opens May 5 at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art. After all, how does one produce a museum show around a man who believed that accolades and the notion of “fashion as art” always took a backseat to the work itself?
“Karl never regarded himself as an artist. He thought that was pretentious, he always saw himself as a designer for hire,” Anna Wintour, editor-in-chief of American Vogue and the organizer of the Met Gala since 1995, tells THR. “His relentless drive to move forward also made him prolific; he just had such a fast-moving mind.” The exhibition comprises Lagerfeld’s 64-year career, showcasing 150-plus Lagerfeld designs for Chanel, Fendi, Chloé and his own eponymous label, as well as...

The glory days of Jim Morrison and the Laurel Canyon scene won’t ever return, but Bill Chait hopes his new restaurant Tesse goes a little ways toward bringing laid-back cool to the storied Sunset Strip.
Chait has been the business and creative muscle behind notable Los Angeles restaurants like Republique, Bestia, Sotto and Otium, all with high-style design and distinctive food. Some, like Bestia, were located in uncharted territory like the industrial district of downtown L.A.
His latest venture, in partnership with Jordan Ogron, is smack in the middle of the almost too-familiar Sunset Strip. But Chait says Tesse is the area’s most ambitious restaurant in years.
Chait was first approached by CAA, an investor in Fred Segal through Evolution Media Partners, to create a restaurant next to the flagship Sunset Blvd. boutique. The idea was to reference fashion in some way, which Chait says will come naturally through the clientele,...

During promotions for the brand new Wallis Annenberg Center for Performing Arts in Beverly Hills, Town & Country selected gala grand opening attendees Gwen Stefani and her husband Gavin Rossdale to front its January 2014 issue.
The pregnant 44-year-old singer looked absolutely radiant for the Roxanne Lowit-shot spread as she stepped out to the Salvatore Ferragamo-sponsored event on October 17th.
The publication's winter issue also featured a star-studded lineup of fellow attendees including Amy Adams, Dita Von Teese and Camilla Belle.
The new center, which is actually the former Beverly Hills post office, was designed by architect Zoltan Pali and holds 500 seats along with a sculpture garden and terrace designed by Ron Lutsko.
While speaking about the celebration, Los Angeles resident and historian Cameron Silver stated the evening was nothing short of amazing. "An eclectic, multicultural, and multi-generational audience of patrons from around the world made for a fun mix of...

High fashion and high drama have been on trend throughout Dukes of Melrose's freshman season, and Wednesday's two-part finale (9/8c, Bravo) is no exception. "It's been a wild ride this season," says Christos Garkinos, co-owner of Los Angeles' Decades boutique, along with Cameron Silver. On-screen, the vintage luxury store has opened its doors to an eclectic celebrity clientele, and on the finale funny girl Sandra Bernhard is on the search for the perfect dress.

This story first appeared in the March 29 issue of The Hollywood Reporter magazine. When Christos Garkinos, co-owner of vintage emporium Decades, first visited the closet of Rachel Zoe, it took three hours to extract six pairs of shoes. "She has an amazing vintage collection but a hard time letting go," says Garkinos of Zoe, consigner No. 143 on Decades' list of nearly 5,000 fashionistas who resell their gently worn frocks to reap up to half of their resale value. Consignment stores aren't just for the middle class. "Dukes of Melrose" follows Cameron Silver and Christos Garkinos, owners of Los Angeles' high-end consignment store, Decades. Christos has dubbed himself the "Robin Hood of fashion." He takes designer duds from the super-rich and sells them to the still-rather rich. So not quite Robin Hood, as he's not giving anything away.
When it comes to acquiring things, he can get pretty aggressive. One scene in the premiere saw him literally get into a tug-of-war with a woman over a bag. "This is a great collector’s piece," he said. "I’m gonna take you down for this bag!"
Ultimately the woman parted with it. The bag was a 2006 Prada Ombre Tote that Christos will put up for $650 at Decades. Similar new bags go easily for almost $3,000.
How could the average American ever afford such luxuries? Christos told Glamour magazine one trick. Stop buying Starbucks coffee.

It's official! Decades co-owners Cameron Silver and Christos Garinos have paired up with Bravo for a new reality show. The series' working title? "Decades."
"The show will highlight the really unique and special place we hold in the fashion world and kind of expose people to a really interesting parte of fashion that hasn't been seen before," Christos Garinos told The Huffington Post.
"We've been approached for a long, long time to do a show," Garinos added. "The timing was really, really right."
"Decades" is being produced by True Entertainment, with Glenda Hersh, Steven Weinstock, Matt Hanna, Kathryn Vaughan and Lauren Eskelin as executive producers.
"I love collaborations," Cameron Silver told The Huffington Post last month, and this is undoubtedly following that modus operandi.
As for how this will change the high-end, insider operation as it stands now, no one knows. But, here's hoping that Decades doesn't soon become a one-stop camera bulb shop.

Looks like Bravo can has cheezburger. The network has greenlit 11 new shows, including the tentatively titled "Huh?" about LOLcat (and apparently LOLchickens) king Ben Huh and the inner workings of his icanhascheezburger.com office.
The new lineup also includes two new "Real Housewives" spinoffs, "Sur" (working title) -- featuring "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" alum Lisa Vanderpump's new restaurant and lounge -- and "The Kandi Factory," with "Real Housewives of Atlanta" star Kandi Buruss as she turns her proteges into pop stars.
Additionally, Bravo has plans for "Life After Top Chef," which will follow former cheftestants Jen Carroll in Philadelphia, Richard Blais in Atlanta, Fabio Viviani in Los Angeles and Spike Mendelsohn in D.C.
The network is also working on its first scripted premieres for 2013, "22 Birthdays," which has a "Sweet 16" feel to it, and "Blowing Sunshine" about patients at a fictional rehab facility.

When it comes to Hollywood style these days, the key to staying on the edge is mixing high and low culture. So it came as little surprise when the guest of honor at a March 21 party—hosted by Decades founder and co-owner Cameron Silver and his partner Jeff Snyder—was a top-of-the-line toilet. Despite Decades' pedigree as a top-notch purveyor of both vintage and contemporary products, Silver and Snyder celebrated the ultramodern Numi advanced toilet, which Kohler launched last year with advanced features such as a heated seat, foot warmer, built-in bidet, music and more.
