In mainstream media nowadays, there is a serious scarcity of inspiring, interesting superheroes, as cynicism and edginess have taken over the minds of fans and creators alike. The moral simplicity, high ideals, empathy, and compassion that defined the superheroes of yesteryear and the golden age have been replaced with the amoral, apathetic, grim self-projections of makers—created in such a way in a vain effort to make the characters ‘relatable’ to the audience. Even in such dreary, tedious situations, works like My Adventures with Superman exemplify the best potential of the genre by holding on to so-called old-timey ideals. The animated series has redefined the age-old saga of the Man of Steel for a new generation in such a way that it not only counters the prevalent bitterness of the genre as a whole but also acts as a blueprint for updated adaptations of iconic stories.

Life kicks us down at the exact moment when everything seems to be going great, and even the Man of Steel is no exception in that regard. After the trip to the multiverse in the seventh episode of My Adventures With Superman, the romance between Lois and Clark had barely started to blossom when Lois got her hands on an ominous case file of the evil Supermen of the Multiverse, which triggered her concerns about Clark. On the other hand, the mysterious General, the leader of the covert government offensive project Task Force X, has started taking the villainous scientist Ivo’s help to manifest his plans of bringing ruin to Superman, whom he considers a threat to humankind. As Clark learns to control another of his newfound powers and struggles with public perception, the eighth episode titled Zero Day: Part One turns out to be possibly the darkest one in My Adventures With Superman.

Balancing between his responsibilities as Superman and keeping his superhero identity hidden from friends while working as a journalist himself was always going to be an arduous task for Clark, which eventually led to a misstep. After the previous episode ended with Lois establishing the connection for the first time that Clark Kent might actually be Superman, things were bound to get messy between Clark and her, and it happened in the fifth episode of My Adventures With Superman.
In the previous episode, Clark battled prototype Parasite armor-wearing Amazo tech chief Dr. Ivo, and with the help of Jimmy and Lois, he put an end to the crazed inventor’s threat. Clark and Lois gradually get closer, and as they get busy with their lives, Jimmy feels kind of left out. Both Jimmy’s perspective and Lois’ significant discovery have been addressed in the fifth episode, You Will Believe A Man Can Lie,...

When it comes to superhero fiction, aside from the rogue gallery of the Trinity, which consists of Supes, Bats, and Spidey, the character Flash boasts the most versatile, well-written, and memorable coterie of villains, occasionally referred to as ‘The Rogues.’ As consideration of a live-action Flash movie started making rounds in the late 80s, a number of classic ‘Rogues’ like Captain Boomerang, Captain Cold, Gorilla Grodd, Trickster, Heatwave, and Mirror Master were considered to play the role of antagonist(s) throughout various drafts under different directors. Back in 2015, when finally a feature entry of the character as a part of the Dceu entered the pre-production stage, it was reported that the movie would adapt the seminal comic storyline Flashpoint. The news excited readers immensely as it presented the chance to see the fan-favorite antagonist Reverse Flash on the silver screen for the first time, as Flash’s arch-enemy is integral to the story,...

Dave Chappelle, Talib Kweli, and Yasiin Bey have partnered with subscription podcast network Luminary on the new podcast “The Midnight Miracle.”
The show is described as salon style and features the three hosts and creators as well as their friends and featured guests. “The Midnight Miracle” was recorded during Chappelle’s 2020 Summer Camp at “The Shack” — a mechanic’s garage retrofitted as a clubhouse. The conversations are intermixed with sketches, impersonations, archival audio clips, and a soundtrack that includes music from Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Thelonious Monk, D’Angelo, Heatwave featuring Johnny Wilder, and more.
“Making a podcast isn’t the obvious next move for me, but it’s the right one,” Chappelle said. “‘The Midnight Miracle’ gives you a look into how me and my friends process the world around us, and I think it will change the way listeners think of what a podcast can be.”

Updated: On Saturday morning, Dominic Purcell announced that he would be “walking away” from his role as Mick Rory, aka Heatwave, on DC’s Legends of Tomorrow and, true to his character’s temperament, he left a fiery message in his wake.
But a matter of hours later, the actor returned to Instagram to clarify his initial statement. “God would everyone chill the f**k out. Why are people losing their mind because I’m leaving the show. Yes my tone was heavy straight to the point…It’s who I am,” he said. “Do I have a beef with the studio at @warnerbrostv No!”
In his first post announcing his departure, earlier in the day, Purcell said, “The studio does not care. The actors [sic] work ethic and talent must give them the confidence to question authority. ….Much love to all. It’s not lost on me how very fortunate I am.

“Deal isn’t done,” he wrote. “I have no interest. What ever [sic] cash they throw on the corporate level. Im walking away from @cw_legendsoftomorrow. It’s been a total pleasure and a humbling experience bringing @dccomics iconic character #heatwave (aka) Mick Rory to life. I smashed this character– not an actor in the world could have done better.”

Updated: Dominic Purcell originally posted to Instagram on Friday night that he is leaving “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow,” but clarified on Saturday that he will still appear on the show “periodically.”
Though Purcell has now deleted the Instagram post announcing his departure altogether, in an updated caption on Saturday, he claimed that the original post was to watch the press “be click-bated.” However, he still maintained that he is leaving the show, writing: “Truth is yes I am leaving @cw_legendsoftomorrow but will come back periodically.”
“It’s a handshake deal with my boss Phil Klemmer. I don’t have a beef with studio @warnerbrostv,” he continued in the now-deleted Instagram post.
Purcell first made the announcement on Friday night, indicating the decision came out of conflict with the studio.

There are many comic book villains that fans would love to see arrive in the DC Extended Universe over the next few years. Right at the top of that list, though, is Reverse-Flash, the nemesis of Barry Allen’s Scarlet Speedster. But who should play the role? In the past, people have imagined actors as diverse as Kevin Bacon, Michael C. Hall and Dan Stevens stepping into the character’s shoes. But this new piece of fan art throws another big name into the ring.
Reddit user TheBatFlashHunter2 shared a design of what he imagines British-born Australian actor Guy Pearce might look like if he was to nab the part of Eobard Thawne opposite Ezra Miller in the upcoming Flashpoint. It’s an interesting choice, too, as Pearce has already played a comic book movie villain, showing up as Aldrich Killian in Iron Man 3.

With Justice League failing to meet financial expectations at the box office, it’s forced many of us to ponder the future of the DC Extended Universe. And regardless of said gross, it’s the hope of many – this writer included – that we continue to see new territory being charted that, of course, includes heroes and villains who’ve not had much exposure on the big screen.
Taking those financial shortcomings into consideration, though, it’s definitely surprising to see that Warner Bros. are seemingly all for proceeding with a Flashpoint movie. I mean, the Scarlet Speedster is long overdue for some time in the spotlight on the silver screen, but anyone remotely familiar with Geoff Johns’ game-changing comic book of the same name is well aware of how it also includes alternate takes on Batman, Superman, Cyborg, Aquaman, Wonder Woman and even Shazam. In other words, it’d essentially...

Huw Stephens has revealed that he supports the campaign to bring back Top of the Pops. Several artists have called for a return of the BBC chart-based live music show, with Blur's Damon Albarn recently admitting that he "never understood" the decision to take the show off air in 2006. "I think we should bring back Top of the Pops," Radio 1 DJ Stephens told Digital Spy. "We'll never get to see Wiley doing 'Heatwave' live on telly probably, and if Top of the Pops was there we would. "I'm definitely behind the bring back Top of the Pops campaign." BBC (more)...
