He was an oncologist and professor emeritus at the Stanford University School of Medicine. He was a co-founder of the National Council Against Health Fraud and of the Institute for Science in Medicine.
He started a medical journal, wrote several articles, and appeared in TV, radio, and print interviews. He was an advocate for scrutiny of unproven medical claims.
