Released back in 2001, the film earned Anderson and co-writer Owen Wilson an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay (which Julian Fellowes went on to win for Gosford Park), with Gene Hackman winning a Golden Globe for his performance as the family patriarch, Royal Tenenbaum.
