“Watchmen” star Malin Åkerman is set to host this year’s Eurovision Song Contest in Sweden alongside Swedish singer and comedian Petra Mede.
‘I can’t really describe my feelings about this,” said Åkerman, who has also appeared in projects including “The Heartbreak Kid” and “Entourage.” “I am very excited and a little nervous, but in a positive way. I have always liked Eurovision and to be a part of this fantastic show together with Petra is a dream come true. Additionally, Petra is one of the funniest women I’ve ever met.”
Mede is a television host, comedian and singer who has her own show titled “Petra Mede Show.” She has hosted the contest twice before, the first time alone, in 2013, and subsequently alongside Swedish pop star Måns Zelmerlöw in 2016.
‘Imagine getting the chance to host Eurovision once again! It’s such an incredible honor. After first hosting it...

Will Ferrell’s spoof can’t get a handle on camp and misses a vital point: Eurovision already does a fine job making fun of itself
The terrible sadness at the heart of Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga is that the film just doesn’t get Eurovision. Almost all other discussion of the movie’s qualities is immaterial; the central question at the heart of an enterprise such as this has to be how successful it is in depicting the greatest annual entertainment ceremony of all time. At stake: nothing less than the very concept of European identity.
The omens are bad when you look at the creative team. Admittedly Will Ferrell has form in this sort of caper. Ferrell’s fame, Americanness and straightness mean that the film, in aiming for a mainstream comedy audience, misses the boat on campness. Of course, heterosexuality isn’t always...

If the Eurovision Song Contest didn’t already exist, we’d never be able to invent it. Imagine trying to organise an international singing competition that featured performers from more than 40 countries, all with their own elaborate costume and staging requirements – and then broadcasting it, live, to an audience of up to 600 million people across Europe and the rest of the world? Even arranging the taxis for the various delegations must be a nightmare.
And yet, Eurovision is completely real, and completely brilliant. It’s a huge annual celebration of music, fireworks, and joy. It’s exhilarating, controversial, and inspiring. If you’ve never seen it before, it can be a little overwhelming, but it’s absolutely worth getting familiar with.
In anticipation of Netflix movie Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga, starring Will Ferrell and Rachel McAdams, here are eight reasons why Eurovision is so special:
