"It's what you said it was out there... It is Not the chaos that you've always described!" Vertical Ent. has unveiled an official trailer for the post-apocalyptic thriller Last Survivors, the second feature made by up-and-coming filmmaker Drew Mylrea. A father and son, who have been living off grid for 20 years, encounter an outsider who threatens to destroy the utopia they've built. Ordered to kill any humans he encounters when venturing out, Jake defies his father by starting a forbidden relationship with a mysterious woman, Henrietta. The film stars Drew Van Acker, Alicia Silverstone, Stephen Moyer, Mark Famiglietti, and Benjamin Arthur. This has some good style and a handful of excellent shots in the trailer, but it also looks so obvious. The Shyamalan-esque twist is so clear from this trailer. But it still might be worth a watch? Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Drew Mylrea's Last Survivors, direct from...

Exclusive: Drew Van Acker, Alicia Silverstone and Stephen Moyer have just wrapped production on Shtf (Sh*t Hits the Fan), a sci-fi thriller directed by Drew Mylrea from a script by Josh Janowicz. Shooting just finished in Butte, Mt.
The pic is set in the aftermath of an apocalyptic event that forces people into extreme isolation. A father (Moyer) and son (Van Acker), who have been living off grid for 20 years, encounter an outsider (Silverstone) who threatens to destroy the utopia they’ve built.
Sunil Perkash, Colin Bates, Akaash Yadav and Michael Jefferson are producing. Van Acker, Wes Hull and Daniel Brandt are executive producers.
For Pretty Little Liars alum Van Acker, the movie marks a reteam with Mylrea after the actor starred in the director’s Spy Intervention last year opposite Poppy Delevingne. He also plays Aqualad on DC Universe’s Titans and is repped by ICM Partners and Luber/Roklin.

Witless sexism masquerades as genre parody in this comedy thriller desperately devoid of comedy or thrills
It’s long been a complaint that all the big awards go to tragic dramas, while comedy, especially farce, is much harder to pull off. Nothing illustrates that truism as well as Spy Intervention. Presumably it’s meant to be a larky spoof of spy movies and marital romance – except without any of the cool gadgets, sense of danger, charm or sexual chemistry you’d expect.
Given it was clearly made on a modest budget and is the work of a first-time director (Drew Mylrea), I would normally cut it a bit of slack. But the script, credited to Mark Famiglietti and Lane Garrison, is so sexist, lazy and lacking in wit, it’s hard to find any forgiveness for the end result.

From late night restaurants to bookstores and galleries hidden within parks, train stations and other public spaces, Pop-up culture seems to be both a remedy for and proponent of our digital age. It would only be a matter of time then that the catchy term would tumble into the film world, specifically the film festival realm. The folks behind the artist support organization Raw: natural born artists are using "pop-up" to describe the first annual Raw Film Festival, which is set to bow this Sunday, April 24th at Echo Park's Bootleg Theater. At first glance, a showcase for high-concept, award winning short films (like Drew Mylrea's Next Door, pictured above) from both Los Angeles based filmmakers and their international brethren, Rawff doesn't want to be...

Why Watch? Anders (Dominic Bogart) works an unfulfilling job making something the mainstream public will probably love (which makes him gag), but at night, he gets to labor away at his passion project. It’s almost everyone’s life story with one small difference: Anders makes robots. It’s really attention to detail (both the design and the story) that makes this all-too-common sci-fi trope sing with richer tones. Bogart gives a keen performance as a younger Doc Brown on Ocd medication. He displays an incredible power that’s locked away in a man who has no choice but to be subdued — from the way he lightly brushes his prototypes hair to how he sees red when an ounce of mustard is spilled by his lovely Lisa. Of course, while most good science fiction uses the extra breathing room of technology to explore a difficult human theme, the thing that’s kind of brilliant about Lisa is...
