Along with Art Clokey and Ruth Clokey Goodell, he created the children's religious TV series "Davey and Goliath".
Worked in media relations in New York with his church and wrote and delivered the weekly radio broadcast "Church World News".
Was associated with the United Lutheran Church of America in the late 40s, serving as assistant editor of their national publication "The Lutheran".
Began his career as a journalist with "The Roanoke Times" in Virginia in the early 1940s.
Raised in Taneytown, Maryland.
He is survived by his daughter, Judy Towne Sutcliffe, his wife Julia also known as Judy, a son, and three granddaughters.
He attended Gettysburg College in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania and Catawba College in North Carolina.
