The latest act in the comedy began Friday, just before voting opened in the Nevada Democratic caucus. The Washington Post ran a story — sourced, I’m not joking, to “people familiar with the matter” — explaining that Bernie Sanders had been briefed that “Russia is attempting to help his presidential campaign as part of an effort to interfere with the Democratic contest.”
Sanders was quick to see through the gambit. “I’ll let you guess about one day before the Nevada caucus. Why do you think it came out?” He pointed...

President Donald Trump is staying in Washington, DC for the holiday season, attempting to bridge the gap in budget negotiations between what he wants – funding for a wall on the Mexican border – and what his opposition wants, which is no wall on the Mexican border.
Meanwhile, hundreds of thousands of government workers are on duty without pay or furloughed in a partial government shutdown. Some say the negotiations could stretch into next month.
While most members of Congress have scattered to their home districts for Christmas, the Commander-in-Tweet is hard at work, lobbying the public on the need for a barrier to check the flow of illegal immigration into the Us.
“The only way to stop drugs, gangs, human trafficking, criminal elements and much else coming into our Country is with a Wall or Barrier,” said Trump’s tweet. “Drones and all of the rest are wonderful and lots of un,...

The Brett Kavanaugh Supreme Court battle has turned into one of the most contentious nominations in our nation’s history. President Trump’s nominee has been accused of past sexual assaults and of being dishonest before the Senate.

“Morning Joe” lashed out at Republican senators on Friday over their refusal to launch an FBI investigation into sexual misconduct allegations against Brett Kavanaugh, saying their decision was motivated by their fear of having Kavanaugh’s old friend Mark Judge speak to the organization.
“They don’t want the FBI to talk to Mark Judge. The whole world knows that and Republicans treat Americans stupid when they pretend it’s anything else other than that,” said show co-host Joe Scarborough on Friday. “It makes no sense that he and every Republican are afraid to have an FBI [investigation].”

The “Music Army,” as proponents of the Music Modernization Act including Sona (Songwriters of North America) and “The Writer Is…” podcast host Ross Golan call their movement to update and improve royalty payments to songwriters, artists and creatives in the digital era, is waging a sky campaign in Oregon. On Monday, Aug. 27, billboards began popping up in Portland and Salem addressed to democratic Senator Ron Wyden and asking “Senator Wyden: Why do you hate music?”
At issue for the advocacy groups, who’ve helped shepherd the Mma through the House of Representatives and long overdue reforms of archaic, complicated and imbalanced procedures for songwriters and music rights holders. It next faces a full Senate vote, which is where Wyden factors.

The Senate Judiciary Committee unanimously voted to approve the Music Modernization Act on Thursday, paving the way for improved royalty payments to songwriters, artists and creatives in the digital era. The vote follows last month’s unanimous approval of similar legislation by the House of Representatives, and clears the way for the full Senate to consider the act.
As in the House, the new Senate bill combines three separate pieces of legislation:

Senator Orrin Hatch (R-ut) today introduced the Music Modernization Act. The fact that the Senate bill, S.2823, is virtually identical to Hr 5477 – the House Mma bill passed unanimously on April 25 – signals all systems go for smooth passage and an update to music laws that the industry has been laboring to update for the past decade.
The bill has been assigned to the Senate Judiciary Committee and has been scheduled for hearing Tuesday.
Having opposed the House version, background music company Music Choice as well as SiriusXM are those expected to oppose Senate passage, but they are among a small minority; the industry overwhelmingly supports the bill Hatch called “crucially important” earlier this year, stating, “our music licensing laws are convoluted, out-of-date, and don’t reward songwriters fairly for their work. They’ve also failed to keep up with recent, rapid changes in how Americans purchase and listen to music.”

Many in Hollywood fumed Friday night after the Republican-controlled Senate voted along almost party lines to pass sweeping changes to the U.S. tax code. The bill passed at 10:58 p.m. Pacific by a vote of 51 to 49 with just one Republican, Bob Corker of Tennessee voting against. The bill, expected to give the biggest benefits to the country’s biggest earners, was the biggest victory for Republicans since they took control of the White House and Congress. Democrats complained that last-minute revisions, some of them hand-written, didn’t give then time to make sense of the bill, and said voting on it.
