Sports drama “Three Seconds” has become the highest grossing Russian film of all time in China, with an 85 million yuan ($12.3 million) gross.
Previous Russian hits in China include “The Snow Queen 3: Fire and Ice” (74.2 million yuan), “Stalingrad” (71.9 million yuan) and “Dragon” (60 million yuan).
Anton Megerdichev’s film tells the story of the Soviet national basketball team’s win at the 1972 Munich Olympics, when the U.S. team was defeated for the first time in 36 years. It is Russia’s top grossing film of all time in its home market.
“Three Seconds” has also become the second highest-grossing foreign sporting feature film in China, outstripping Sylvester Stallone’s “Creed II,” Brad Pitt’s “Moneyball,” and Emma Stone’s “Battle of the Sexes.”
The film opened in Chinese movie theaters on June 13 and has been on screens continuously since, so becoming the longest-screening Russian live-action feature in China.

“Spider-Man: Far From Home” swung into the China box office with a $97.2 million opening weekend, according to data from consultancy Artisan Gateway — the fourth best debut of all time for a superhero film in the territory, behind April’s “Avengers: Endgame,” last year’s “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Venom.” The June 28 China release came days before its scheduled July 2 North American opening.

Freshly released in Russian cinemas, Anton Megerdichev's disaster picture Metro already boasts a pair of fantastic trailers. They're taut and tense bits of work that demonstrate the director's skill and the potent premise - the story revolves around a subway crash and flooding of the tunnels beneath Moscow - to great effect. But now there's something even more impressive to cast your eyes on.A lengthy eight minute clip from the film is freshly arrived online, one that picks up the action immediately following the crash. And while, yes, Megerdichev's technical abilities are on full display what is really impressive here to tell a compelling story with complex characters shining through in the middle of chaos with the use of absolutely bare minimum dialogue. Everybody loves a good disaster film and it would appear that is just as true in Russia as in the rest of the world.Director Anton Megerdichev will soon be releasing his mass-destruction effort Metro in Russian cinemas and the first teaser has just arrived to clear the way.As you may surmise from the title, the film is set in the Moscow subway system, a system on the verge of collapse due to a water leak that sends the Moscow River racing through the tunnels. The problem, of course, is that the tunnels run under much of the city and if they collapse then so do the buildings on top.Take a look at the teaser below....
