Looking back at Season 13 of The Voice, there are so many decisions that just did not compute. Miley Cyrus dropping not only Chloe Kohanski — after “Landslide,” no less! — but also Addison Agen. Adam Levine letting Emily Luther go. Jennifer Hudson keeping Shi’Ann Jones over Chris Weaver. Blake Shelton — or anyone, ever, at any time, for any reason — allowing Esera Tuaolo to slaughter “How Do I Live?” But after Monday’s performances by the Top 4, it was all over but the voting (and, of course, Tuesday’s two hours and 59 minutes of filler until the announcement of the winner). How did Chloe,...

Did somebody order a buzzkill? Although The Voice’s sudden-death Playoffs are ordinarily a time of high excitement on the show, since Season 13’s were taped rather than being aired live, we wouldn’t get to vote for our favorite contestant(s) until the contenders were whittled down to the Top 12; the decisions before then would rest entirely in the hands (ears?) of the coaches. Where, I ask you, is the fun in that? At least we could be distracted from our annoyance during Monday’s Night 1 by Team Blake and Team JHud’s performances, several of which were so bad,...

Had Monday’s start of The Voice’s Season 13 Knockouts been Kelly Clarkson’s Blind Audition to be a coach on the show, would you have turned your chair for her? The Grammy-winning American Idol champ certainly appeared to be into it. And her advice seemed on point. (For instance, she suggested that Shi’Ann Jones maybe shouldn’t spend an entire song doing runs, encouraged Janice Freeman not to just copy Mary J. Blige, and brought a hell of a howl out of Dennis Drummond.) But I dunno — she didn’t feel like an obvious slam-dunk the way that...

On Night 2 of The Voice’s Season 13 Battles — or, as I like to think of them, cage fights with high notes — Carson Daly collected another paycheck for announcing what was obvious over and over again (“The Battle starts now”), and another half dozen vocalists did their damnedest to outduet one another. As for you and me, I suspect we were all just hoping that a new round of sing-offs would make us forget the head-scratcher that was Night 1’s Steal for Kathrina Feigh but not for the vastly superior Sophia Bollman. If Tuesday’s performances themselves didn’t sufficiently put that travesty behind us,...

Am I grading too easily? Getting ready to recap Night 2 of The Voice’s Season 13 Blind Auditions, I realized that, during Night 1, I had given out a whopping five A-minuses, which seems kinda ridiculous in retrospect. I mean, was Esera Tuaolo, for instance, really that good? Or was there just technically nothing wrong with his performance, so I couldn’t find anything to dock him for? If I don’t immediately want to throw a shoe at a singer — or at least download their cover song — were they truly A-worthy? Though Dave Crosby might disagree, I think I’m going...

Previously this singing contestant was a human wrecking ball but on Monday night he was wreaking havoc on people’s emotions with his singing strength and not his physical might.
Former NFL player, Esera Tuaolo, amazed The Voice judges and the audience with his rendition of Andra Day’s “Rise Up” on the premiere of the singing TV show.
Tuaolo, 49, kept his sexual orientation a secret from his NFL teammates during the nine years he was a defensive tackle, but player revealed on Monday night’s show what it was like to finally come out.

Suggesting superstitiously that Season 13 of The Voice would be unlucky was a silly gimmick, I thought — until in the premiere, the coaches all passed on my two favorite contestants of the night: Xaris, a teenage folk singer who’s as much of a gem as Jewel, and Odiseas, who returned from his Season 3 tryout with enough star power to light up a constellation. But it was still nice to have Miley Cyrus back on the panel — and not to have to listen to Gwen Stefani pitching female vocalists on joining her team with compelling arguments like, “You’re a girl,...

Birthday shoutouts go to Esera Tuaolo (above), who is 44, Sela Ward is 56, Jeff Corwin is 45, Conner Paolo is 22, and David Henrie is 23. Lance Bass is finalizing a deal with Lifetime to bring Celebrity Sellouts to series. The show "will follow A-list celebrities in their homes as they part with memorabilia, costumes, furniture and tchotchkes, all of which will be auctioned off for charity, with the celebs trying to hit a goal dollar amount." Without a smash like The Book Of Mormon to bring in viewers, last night's Tony Awards were the lowest rated ever.Speaking of Broadway, prepare yourselves for Gilligan's Island: The Musical. It will feature all the castaways ... plus an alien. I smell another Tony for Patti LuPone. The faboo Pia Zadora is now on Twitter ... and now she knows I exist!

Some former cast members think there are too many gay characters on Coronation Street. HereTV is accepting e-mail and phone questions for its upcoming sex, dating, and relationship roundtable discussion show Threesome (h/t Crawfish po boy). Below you can see out CNN anchor Don Lemon discuss the slavery language in that "marriage pledge" that Michele Bachmann and Rick Santorum were so eager to sign.
Speaking of the marriage pledge, Towleroad has the video of Whoopi Goldberg going off about it on this morning's The View: "Dammit, I am sick of this crap!" So Toms founder Blake Mycoskie didn't know what Fof was all about? I don't buy it, either.
Lady Gaga wears her grandmother's tablecloth while visiting Australia.
If you've never seen Friday Night Lights, you'll get a second chance, as Espn will start running the entire series starting tomorrow.

Monday was National Coming Out Day. The Proposition 8 lawsuit sits in waiting, as the case for same-sex marriage in California has a pending hearing at a federal court of appeals before possibly moving on to the Supreme Court. The U.S. military's "Don't Ask Don't Tell" policy is its own political firestorm at the moment and is on the cusp of abolishment. New York gubernatorial candidate Carl Paladino mouths off that "your children" would be much better off if they are not "brainwashed into thinking that homosexuality is an equally valid and successful option." A sobering rash of recent suicides among youngsters reminds us that bullying, lack of tolerance, and the notion that being gay is bad are still far too prevalent in our society.
Thus, it seems an appropriate time to highlight that same lack of tolerance that has dismayingly infected the world of major league sports. Why should it matter where the NBA,...

Plus a rock pioneer passes away, Esera Tuaolo discusses his arrest, the Log Cabin Republicans talk Texas, and guess who's getting opposite married this week?
Will Young (incognito?) attends the Glastonbury Music festival in England.
E!Online has commenced voting for their Tater Tops Awards, and up for Best Couple is Cam and Mitchell from Modern Family. Please vote and give our guys the Golden Tater! I didn't think it was possible to like Chris Colfer more than I do, but I was wrong.
Bill Aucoin has passed away at the age of 66. He discovered Kiss and was their manager back when they were relevant (yes, decades ago), and later went on to manage Billy Idol and one of my 80's favorites, Billy Squire. They so need to make a movie about him. Condolences go out to his longtime partner Roman Fernandez.

Q: I've noticed that Perez Hilton has turned so bitter lately. He has this weird obsession with John Mayer, and I'm not sure if he's bitter because he has a major crush on John Mayer and can't accept the fact that he's straight. My question is, as a gay community, are we dooming ourselves by having a "I'm the biggest bitch" attitude? — Jay, Olathe, Kansas
A: You're just noticing what an evil, bitter, classless person Perez Hilton is now?!?!
AfterElton.com long ago decided to stop writing about Perez Hilton — our thinking was along the lines that if people stop talking and thinking about him, he might slowly fade away. Like Voldemort.
But your larger point is a fascinating one. Are gay men more likely to be,...
