Kitty (Anna Cathcart) finally gets her chance to shine in the trailer for “Xo, Kitty,” a new spin-off series that expands the world of “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before” which was explored in the three film adaptations released on Netflix.
“I know when two people are meant for each other,” Cathcart says as an intro to her powerpoint presentation about why she should go to the Korea Independent School of Seoul. “I felt it for Lara Jean and Peter and I feel it for me and Dae.”
In the final film of the “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before” trilogy, based on the books by Jenny Han, Kitty met Dae (Minyeong Choi) in New York while Lara Jean was visiting colleges. Now, she’s convinced that she has met her match, so she applied to Kiss because Dae goes there now. She gets in on scholarship, and the adventure begins.

Netflix’s new series Xo, Kitty delves into the life of To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before‘s Lara Jean’s younger sister. The streaming service just unveiled the first clip from the upcoming young adult romantic comedy spinoff, along with a batch of photos featuring Kitty Song Covey, played by Anna Cathcart.
“We all fell so deeply in love with Lara Jean and her story. So it felt like the greatest gift to give to Kitty was to let her as a character kind of set off on her own two feet and not put her in the shadow of either of her sisters,” explained series creator and co-showrunner Jenny Han.
Although the series is a spinoff, co-showrunners Han and Sascha Rothchild say you don’t have to watch To All the Boys to understand Xo, Kitty.

The Wbtv Directors’ Workshop launched in 2013 with the aim to discover new and innovative talent, to prepare directors from other creative fields for the transition to television, and to provide increased opportunities for women helmers and those from underrepresented groups. Since its founding, the Directors’ Workshop has helped to launch or further the TV directing careers of more than 60 women and/or people of color, according to Wbtv.
This year’s class was instructed by directors Bethany Rooney and Stacey K. Black.
Prior Directors’ Workshop graduates include Bola Ogun, Stacey Muhammad, Pamela Romanowsky, Marcus Stokes, Jennifer Phang, Alexis Ostrander, Sherwin Shilati, Michael Goi, Antonio Negret, Jude Weng, and Jaffar Mahmood, among many others.

Does it get any more festive than snow in New York? I know many, many people have the lifelong dream of spending Christmas in the Big Apple and I have to admit that it is a dream that I also share! The closest I am probably ever going to get to this dream was the opening moments of the new Netflix original series Dash and Lily which involves a panning camera which showing the classic New York buildings complete with snow falling from the sky!
Dash and Lily follows all the conventions of your classic teenage ‘relatable’ series; for example the contrast between Dash who hates Christmas with a passion, against Lily who loves the festive period.

The practical directing work normally done on Warners’ sets will now be done using co-habitating actors, with the directors work with them remotely.
The program launched in 2013 with the aim to directors from other creative fields for the transition to TV, and to spur equity and inclusion by providing opportunities for female helmers and those from underrepresented groups. It has seen 100% of the graduates from the past four classes go on to direct episodes of Warner Bros–produced series. Alums include Pamela Romanowsky, Marcus Stokes, Jennifer Phang,...

Girl Talk is a weekly look at women in film — past, present, and future.
When the popular women-focused lifestyle website Refinery29 began to build out its original video assets, they hit a stumbling block: they wanted more women creators to make their projects, but they couldn’t seem to find them through traditional means.
“We were building so many things simultaneously,” Chief Content Officer Amy Emmerich recently explained to IndieWire. “And having such a tough time finding women directors and hearing what the agents would say to us, like, ‘We don’t have someone who is a comedy director for you,’ or ‘There aren’t that many,’ and we kind of looked at each other, like, ‘What the hell is happening?'”
For a female-focused business, that idea just wasn’t tenable, and Emmerich and scripted programming executive producer Shannon Gibson set out to launch their own program aimed at female creators.

Starting today, horror fans can check into The Institute at theaters and on VOD via Momentum Pictures, and we caught up with co-director Pamela Romanowsky to discuss collaborating with co-director James Franco, the movie's unique filming location, and much more.
Thanks for taking the time to answer some questions for us, Pamela. What attracted you to telling this story by Adam and Matt Rager?
Pamela Romanowsky: Well, the first question for me was “why a horror film?” I like films across lots of genres, but I’m not a horror buff, so this was a first for me. The horror films I do love are genre blending, movies that are character-based and explore things that are dark but still based in reality, and in the dark corners of human psychology. I’ve never really been scared of the supernatural, but people are certainly capable of terrifying and very dark things.

"I assure you, our dear Isabella is in safe hands." Momentum Pictures has debuted the first trailer for a thriller titled The Institute, co-directed by James Franco and Pamela Romanowsky. Franco also stars in the film as one of the doctors at the "institute". Set in the 19th century, the story is about a young girl who checks into the Rosewood Institute, only to discover their methods for curing patients are totally twisted and violent. In addition to Franco, the film stars Allie Gallerani, Lori Singer, Tim Blake Nelson, Eric Roberts, Josh Duhamel, Topher Grace, Pamela Anderson, Beth Grant, and Dominic Rains. I'm intrigued to see Franco directing a 19th century thriller, but this just looks instantly forgettable. Take a look. “Watching You, Watching Me” is the first short film from Refinery29’s “Shatterbox Anthology,” a new initiative that is producing 12 shorts from different female directors, writers and animators centered around the theme of power dynamics.
Directed by Pamela Romanowsky, best known for her James Franco-starring drama “The Adderall Diaries,” “Watching You, Watching Me” is a black and white feature that focuses on four individuals, Shagasyia Diamond, Rachel Fleit, Edward McDonald and Lyn Slater, and how they are perceived in this world. These four people talk about their personal experiences of being judged, whether it be for their appearance, sexual preference, age or how they’ve changed.
“If the reason for you watching people is to judge them, you just need to stop,” says Diamond in the video. “If the reason you are watching people is because you’re intrigued by them, then you need to let that person know.

Refinery29’s series of 12 short films is close to its premiere date. On August 28th, according to The Hollywood Reporter, the female-skewing media company will premiere the first episode of its Shatterbox Anthology, which only features projects written, directed, and animated by women.
The goal of Shatterbox is to shatter the barriers that keep women from being properly represented in the film industry (hence the name). When the project was first announced, Refinery29 noted that only 12 of the 100 highest-grossing films of 2014 had a female protagonist, and only 7% of the films released that year were directed by women.
To help change that trend, Refinery29 has enlisted the services of some of Hollywood’s most recognizable ladies. Chloe Sevigny was the first Shatterbox director to be revealed, and Refinery29 discussed additional films led by Kristen Stewart and Gabourey Sidibe at its 2016 NewFronts presentation.

This has given our programmers the heart-breaking job of deciding which of the many films submitted should be shown. This has become a huge responsibility. Programmers know that a Raindance screening is a launch pad to Europe and America.

Actors often brag about their willingness to do their own stunts, and audiences understandably cheer at the idea. We want our movie stars to be giving it their everything in a movie. A movie may not be real, but we still want them to be doing everything as real as they can. But we usually only think of those kind of stunts in terms of things like Tom Cruise hanging off of the side of an airplane. There are other kinds of stunts that can be just as harrowing for an actor, if not more so, that are far, far more real world. One of them can be seen in the below clip from The Addreall Diaries, in which Amber Heard has to give it her all while choking James Franco. In the clip, writer-director Pamela Romanowsky touches on why it's one of her favorite scenes by explaining how...

To combat the long festering consequences of childhood trauma, James Franco’s character in The Adderall Diaries, Stephen Elliott turns to any number of distractions. He dilutes his pain with drug abuse, copious sexual encounters and even wayfaring creative pursuits. We meet Elliott, a nonfiction author suffering from writer’s block, just as he begins to deviate from focus on his proposed memoir to a strange family’s high-profile courtroom battle. Whereas this defense mechanism functions as tantamount to lifeblood for Franco’s character, it’s damn near toxic to The Adderall Diaries itself. (It eventually ends up proving toxic to Elliott, too, as anyone who’s taken a psych class would presume—the process is a lot quicker when it comes to the film).
We’re assured from the get-go that the meat of Elliott’s story, no matter what tangent it may occupy at any given time, lies...

Coming off of a triple Oscar win with Ex Machina, Room, and Amy, as well as a successful wide release of The Witch, A24 is easily the biggest success story when it comes to new independent distributors. Next month they’ll release Pamela Romanowsky’s The Adderall Diaries, a drama which premiered at Tribeca last year and features James Franco, Amber Heard, Ed Harris, Christian Slater, and Cynthia Nixon. Ahead of the release, we now have the first trailer for the drama.
We said in our review, “Style trumps substance in writer-director Pamela Romanowsky’s The Adderall Diaries, a pet project involving Franco that perhaps seems to write the wrongs of his previous bomb about the writing process, Third Person. Inspired by a memoir from the real Stephen Elliott, his process here is a tortured one as he blames his father for his addictions in this cinematic equivalent of a Staind song.

Yes, it's James Franco Movie #9564 — B. The prolific actor/writer/director/producer/artist seems to have a new project dropping every other week, so all is forgiven if you forgot about his starring role in "The Adderall Diaries." The film made its debut at the Tribeca Film Festival last year, and not much has been heard since, but now it's getting ready to head out in the world and a U.K. trailer has dropped. The Pamela Romanowsky directed adaptation of Stephen Elliott's memoir tracks the story of the author through his bruising childhood and beyond. We called the picture "a workable portrait of pain and addiction, one that’s bizarrely entertaining even in its most brutal moments" in our review from Tribeca, so it's one worth investigating. Arrow Films UK has released the first international trailer for "The Adderall Diaries " (aka. "True Deception), director Pamela Romanowsky's adaptation of Stephen Elliott's novel.
James Franco, Ed Harris, Amber Heard, Christian Slater, Wilmer Valderrama and Cynthia Nixon star in the non-linear story about a real-life investigation into the 2007 murder trial of Hans Reiser (Slater) who was accused of killing his wife, and the ensuing confession of his friend Sean Sturgeon - a killer who admits to multiple murders but not that of Reiser's wife.
The film will also serve as a twisted autobiography of Elliott (Franco) framed against the literary investigation for his book. A24 is giving the film a limited release in the U.S. on April 15th.
