He had a number of vocations during his lifetime, beginning as a cowboy
in his youth, he worked for the railroad during WWII and then as a
highway foreman for the Utah Department of Transportation for nearly 30
years, retiring in 1976. He also served as a field observer for the
National Weather Service for 48 years and a field collector for the
National Geological Survey for 38 years.
Following his retirement he operated a service station along Utah
Scenic Highway 128 near his home at the historic Dewey Bridge for many
years, meeting and greeting thousands of tourists from around the
country and the world and becoming somewhat of a tourist attraction
himself in the process.
