Betelihem Zelealem is an Ethiopian camera person and digital Non-linear
editor who works for Halaqah Films, a multi-award winning company based
in UK and the USA. As a young lady Betelihem Zelealem is a shining
example of African youth future. Coming from a middle class family in
Addis Ababa Ms. Zelealem worked in the print industry for most of her
working career. By chance she joined a visiting Halaqah Media film crew
as translator for a film being made in Ethiopia's Harar region. From
this point on she learned camera and later editing skills.
She was trained by international and multi-award winning director Owen Alik Shahadah. She has edited the critically acclaimed film Our Story Our Voice, which was nominated at the Pan-African film festival in 2007.
As part of an Pan-African skills exchange project Betelihem Zelealem, in 2007, visited South Africa and meet the likes of Jacob Zuma, Jeff Radabe and the major of Durban. From this a documentary film called Still My Home was initiated (which looks at the history of a Durban township) and Ms Zelealem was appointed chief editor.
