After hosting the Emmys twice, the Tonys four times, the Spike Video Game Awards, Saturday Night Live and even the Disney Parks Christmas Parade, Neil Patrick Harris has landed the 2015 Oscars gig.
To mark the thespian's appointment, here are a collection of career highlights which show why Nph is the perfect Academy Awards host.
1. Showstopping opening numbers
A Neil Patrick Harris-hosted show wouldn't be complete without several large scale musical numbers, but the opening piece is the biggest spectacle. When Nph is hosting a show, his performances are often the most memorable moments the next day.
He finds a perfect blend of mickey-taking and adoration about the subjects he is singing about, and his timing is impeccable. If the Academy wants someone who is safe, yet cheeky, Nph is perfect.
2. Playing the ultimate diva

One of the things we pride ourselves on here at Dread Central is that many of our staff members have spread their wings and tried their hands at other things besides giving you the best news and review coverage we can. That being said, it's with great pleasure that we debut the first (and supposedly only) directorial effort from our own Heather Wixson, her short film Paper Rock, Scissors.
Starring Aaron Pruner ("Vr Troopers") and Corbett Tuck (Insidious), Paper Rock, Scissors was directed by Wixson and written by Bryan Ryan (The Guest, Tresspasser). The short film was shot and edited by Brian Smith with original music by Dwayne Cathey and special make-up effects by Kelsey Boutte.
"I'm incredibly proud of everyone's work on Paper Rock, Scissors, and I can't think of a better short film debut for me than this," said Wixson. "Growing up, I had two loves - horror...

The 11th annual Nevada City Film Festival, running Aug. 18-21, is four nights crammed full with short films, several feature-length documentaries, one dramatic feature, stand-up comedy performances and more surprises, all nestled within the rolling hills of Northern California.
The fest opens with the feature documentary Someplace With a Mountain, directed by Steve Goodall and narrated by Chevy Chase. The film tells the story of the embattled people of the Puluwat atoll who are besieged by the Pacific Ocean itself. Rising waters due to global warming are making their land slowly disappear beneath the waves.
Other feature docs include music-based films We Are Wizards, directed by Josh Koury, about the oddball phenomenon of rock bands that only craft songs about the world of Harry Potter; and Everyday Sunshine, directed by Lev Anderson and Chris Metzler, which profiles the legendary ska punk band Fishbone that continues to bring their enthusiastic music to the masses.

On January 8, 2011, this writer took a trip up La Tuna Canyon just outside Sun Valley, CA, for a visit to Frank Ippolito’s then-shooting short film "Night of the Little Dead" (set visit and photos coming soon) and while there chatted with one of that film’s stars, genre vet Bill Moseley, who talked up a few of his other horror projects, including Susanna Lo’s upcoming feature Manson Girls.
“I’m really looking forward to it,” said the actor, who is familiar to horror fans for his turn as ‘Choptop’ in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 as well as for his portrayal of ‘Otis’ in the Rob Zombie films House of 1000 Corpses and The Devil’s Rejects, of his role in Manson Girls. “It is kind of funny to have these brushes with Charles Manson over the years. Looking back on the year that was, Zap2it is thankful for a whole lot of television. But for a few staffers, there are certain episodes and series that clearly distinguished themselves as the best.
15 shows -- "Bones," "Cougar Town," "Chuck," "Dexter," "Glee," and "Supernatural" among them -- brought out their A-game in 2010. To see which episodes made our list, and why they did, read ahead:

"Community" - "Modern Warfare": This post-apocalyptic "Warriors" spoof set to an intra-college paintball competition marked the moment that woke a lot of people up to the fact that "Community" is one of the best series on television. I am no exception. The show elevated cutesy pop culture parody to brilliance in one of the funniest (and simultaneously riveting) half-hours of TV all year. Could "Glee" be bringing us an episode-long Piano Man tribute?
Creator Ryan Murphy told Zap2it in May that a Billy Joel episode "would be great."
When the musician himself was asked if it would sign off on such an episode, Joel tells "Access Hollywood," "I already have ... All I know is I said, 'Yeah, go ahead. Use my stuff.' I was in a chorus when I was in high school. Why not?"
Hmm, we're not sure if that really means there will be a tribute episode (like the mysterious Super Bowl episode) or if he's just allowing "Glee" free rein of his song catalog.
Regardless, if there is a tribute episode, he's not about to pull a Britney Spears and appear on the show.
"No," says Joel, "I'm just not a big TV actor type of guy. I'm a piano player."

Back in 1990, did anyone ever imagine that little Doogie Howser would grow up to be entertainment's "it" boy? His successful adult career was hard to predict, but Neil Patrick Harris' fame is clearly not fleeting. He survived child stardom and came out the other end an actor-singer-dancer triple threat with numerous award nominations to validate his career.
This year the nods turned into statues when Nph took home two of the golden girls at Saturday's Creative Arts Emmy Awards. Now Neil needs to wait until Sunday's Emmy Awards to see if he makes it three for three. He's up for the title of Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for How I Met Your Mother.
In the meantime, Neil won the prize for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for his turn as Bryan Ryan, Will Schuester’s arch-enemy, on Glee.

Now that the "Glee" creators are ready to spill more about Season 2, we'd love to hear that Neil Patrick Harris -- who earned an Emmy nomination his guest appearance, mind you -- will return.
Seeing Mr. Schue's (Matthew Morrison) rival Bryan Ryan back isn't as easy as writing him another power ballad sing-off though.

You may recall a few months ago we told you about Final Girl Films' competition for indie horror filmmakers looking to make their next short film project. The contest was based on scripts only, and the first runner-up was Bryan Ryan for "The Guest". Dread Central recently had a chance to chat with Bryan about how he first got involved in filmmaking, what's up with "The Guest", and his future plans.
Dread Central: What made you decide to get into filmmaking?
Bryan Ryan: I can trace the whole thing back to two films: Disney's Pinocchio and Jaws. The first for the way it petrified me as a child. I know that I will never forget the effect Pinocchio had on me. Now, the same goes for Jaws, but it goes a step further because of the sheer ingenuity it took to tell That story in That way. We already know these two exciting spoilers for season two of Glee. But producers/writers Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan gathered at the Paley Center in Los Angeles this week and shared a lot more with reporters. Sit back and soak in the following intel...
Rinn 4 eva! Rachel and Finn will truly give it a go next season. Says Murphy: "Let's keep them together and let's really see how an entire season, if there's no breakup scenes, what does that couple look like at the end of the season?" Sorry, Jesse St. James fans.
The return of Rhodes: Kristin Chenoweth will definitely be back. There's the possibility we'll see Shelby, Bryan Ryan and Jesse again, too.

Neil Patrick Harris has admitted that appearing on Glee was a lot of work. The actor guest starred in an episode of the first season as Bryan Ryan, Will's enemy from high school. "Glee was great," he told TV Squad. "It was super fun. It was a lot of work, and I didn't expect that when I went and did it. "I was just a fan of the show, and you think it's going to be like hopping into Up With People or something. You just open the door, there's bright lights, and everyone's happy and singing and dancing, but they work really, really hard." He added: "I've said before in the press that it was like factory work, which I regret saying because it makes me seem like I'm saying (more)...

I think I very well might be the resident “Gleek” at Gatw, as I seem to get really pumped by all of the reoccurring and cameo roles in Fox’s hit show, Glee. Time and time again, they have chosen actors to pop up, such as Neil Patrick Harris’ and his hilarious performance as Bryan Ryan. Now they have chosen another really exciting actor to bring in for the shenanigans, Uncle Jesse himself, John Stamos.

For a show that is only just now wrapping up its first season, Glee certainly feels like it's been around for ages. It's a measure of Glee's cultural impact that the show feels as if it's been part of the television landscape for longer than it has.
And what an impact it's had, from winning a Golden Globe award to releasing music that consistently tops the iTunes charts to an Entertainment Weekly cover to droves of fans literally all over the world.
And while we've certainly had our issues with some aspects of the show, there is no denying that Glee has done a lot of things right. And to paraphrase Sue Sylvester, here are five of them as AfterElton.com sees it.
1) Glee put a non-traditionally masculine gay character front and center

I don’t care what that ass-hat Newsweek columnist Ramin Setoodeh says: I find Neil Patrick Harris believable in any role. Maybe it’s the fact that he’s our most esteemed homosexual celebrity. (This is The Gay Guide to Glee after all!) Or maybe it’s the retroactive appeal of his role as uber-twink brainiac Doogie Howser, a part I never actually saw him play, but which seems like a perverse inversion of my favorite porn site High School Physical. Whatever it is, while the adult story-lines on Glee usually put me to sleep faster than one of those inert Twilight movies, the convoluted hostility N.P.H. brought to his role as Bryan Ryan this week propelled his antipathetic dealings with Cornrows's Turn (also known as Will Shuester) into a the realm of the irresistible. The result was a solid B++ of an episode, limited from entry in...

This is what you missed last time on Glee (TV). Mr. Schuester’s (Matthew Morrison) high school rival Bryan Ryan (Neil Patrick Harris) comes to McKinley High to wreak havoc on the Glee Club by threatening to cut it from the school curriculum. And because his hopes of stardom on the theatrical stage were dashed, he tells the kids they have no chance either. He and Mr. Schu have a sing-off to "Dream On" for a part in the local theater’s musical, and it is revealed that Ryan’s appearance wasn’t by accident, but rather another plan from the diabolical Sue Sylvester (Jane Lynch) to bring down Glee Club. Meanwhile, since dreams are the subject of this episode, we find out that Artie (Kevin McHale) dreams of some day dancing on his own two feet, and Rachel dreams of meeting her mother...who is actually Vocal Adrenaline’s...

For almost all of "Glee's" debut season, each episode has managed to either be gay fantastic(!) or, more often than not, so ridiculously overblown that you question why you're even watching the show. Last night's episode, which was directed by Joss Whedon and featured Neil Patrick Harris as Bryan Ryan, was a rarity: It was neither of those things. It was simply good.
There is a middle ground, after all.
Leave it to Joss Whedon to make singing a duet of "Piano Man" in a tavern feel more subdued and less theatrical. It wasn't exactly cinéma vérité, but you could almost believe that two men discussing their problems (about musical theater) might break into Billy Joel over a couple of brewskies. And Matthew Morrison and Neil Patrick Harris have unbelievable musical chemistry. When "Glee" and "How I Met Your Mother" end their respective runs, those two should get their own musical show.

Remember the weeks before "Glee" came back from hiatus and all we had to tide us over were glimpses of upcoming scenes in promos? And there was one promo that showed Mr. Schuster making out with Idina Menzel's character, and for a hot second you were like, "Omg he's making out with Rachel!"?
Well, you weren't crazy. Anyone with eyes can see that the Broadway legend and Lea Michele are pretty much identical. But it wasn't until tonight's episode that we learned for sure what everyone had suspected all along: Shelby Corcoran, you are the mother.
Rachel's birth mother is, in fact, the Vocal Adrenaline coach, and Rachel's foxy new boyfriend, former Va star-turned-New Directions transfer Jesse St. James, has been but a pawn in Shelby's evil plan.

Typically, a Glee episode with so little Sue Sylvestor would leave us more disappointed than Brittany when she eventually realizes that dolphins aren't just gay sharks.
But Sue's paltry role on "Dream On" was understandable, as this was Neil Patrick Harris' chance to shine. He played Bryan Ryan, a former social choir member that turned bitter after his career flamed out, but remained hilarious in the eyes of viewers.
Bryan resents Will, loves anger sex, would probably not feed sheet music to a child and thinks global warming is a theory.
He can also go vocal chord to vocal chord, and facial expression to facial expression, with Will, as their duet of "Dream On" was one of my favorite performances in show history (purchase it now from our Glee music section!).
But while Harris' school board member stole the laughs, Rachel and Artie tugged at our hearts.

Neil Patrick Harris guest stars as Bryan Ryan Will’s high school rival (is it really a rivalry if one side always wins?) who tries to cut the glee club, Artie dreams that he will one day walk and dance (cue Phil Collins and Genesis), Rachel almost finds her mom (Rachel’s mother’s identity is revealed to us and she happens to be Idina Menzel a.k.a. Shelby Corcoran, Vocal Adrenaline’s coach) “That’s what you missed on Glee”
To begin I was happy to see, though briefly, Molly Shannon and John Michael Higgins. I hope to see them again. Nph fit in just perfect as Bryan Ryan and though I don’t foresee many reoccurring appearances (unless How I Met Your Mother gets canceled, which it won’t).
Idina Menzel should be around more (get it?) after Rachel finds out that Shelby is her biological mother.

Score another one for the gays! Tonight on "Glee," special guest Neil Patrick Harris showed up as Will Shuester's worst nightmare: his old glee club nemesis, Bryan Ryan, who's now old and bitter and bent on shuttering glee club for good. The good news: Bryan Ryan's thinly veiled anti-glee agenda gave the show a hilarious new way to poke fun at homophobic America, one that doesn't require Kurt to make out with girls and wear flannel just to figure out how much happier he is in his own skin. (Please, let's have no more of that.) The bad news? Despite being...

Tonight's "Glee" episode, directed by Joss Whedon, was called "Dream On" -- and dream they did. Every week, there's a performance on "Glee" that stands out from the bunch. Tonight, that honor went to Artie (Kevin McHale) and his flash-mob style "Safety Dance" daydream sequence.
Artie has been confined to a wheelchair for years following a spinal cord injury, but when Bryan Ryan (Neil Patrick Harris) asks him to write down his greatest dream, Artie scrawls "dancer." Aaaand, our hearts broke.
Kevin McHale, on the other hand, does not have any problems whatsoever moving his dancing feet. (His portrayal of Artie is so realistic that even Oprah was surprised to learn that he can walk.) In Artie's dream sequence, he got up in the middle of the mall and led a flash mob in "Safety Dance," originally by '80s one-hit-wonder Men WIthout Hats.

The May 14 "Glee" episode was highly anticipated for two reasons in particular: Neil Patrick Harris and Joss Whedon. Titled "Dream On," the episode had a rather heavy-handed dream theme. Artie, Rachel, and Nph's character Bryan Ryan all reached for the stars -- or at least for the community theater -- and the songs, as always, contributed to the motif of the night.
Bryan Ryan is one of Mr. Schuester's (Matt Morrison) high school Glee Club rivals, now a member of the school board who is out to cut the funding for New Directions after an attempt at showbiz left him jaded. One drunken night at the bar, Schue coaxes Bryan into a rousing rendition of "Piano Man" by Billy Joel - but the faux camaraderie doesn't last long when they have a sing-off of Aerosmith's "Dream On" at an audition for "Les Miserables." I've been very excited about this week's episode because, well, of Hot 100 winner Neil Patrick Harris. Need I say more? If he wasn't married to the equally gorgeous and talented David Burtka, I'd say I wanted to make babies with him.
As it is, I don't want to be disrespectful of their relationship, so I'll just say I want to have a threesome with them. Too much?
As for Glee, I was hopeful that the show would put him to good use, but based on past experience ... needless to say, I was a bit nervous.
Upping the ante even more, this episode was directed by Joss Whedon of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog fame. High hopes indeed. Did the show live up to my dreams? Or will the Gleeks come storming after me in the comments? Read on to find out!

There are really only six words we can use to describe this week's Glee episode: "Omg" and "Neil Patrick Harris."
As Will's rival, Bryan Ryan, Harris owned every scene in which he appeared. For an installment aptly titled "Dream On," this an entire hour was a dream come true for fans of Nph, Glee and just singing fans in general.
We're writing up our full recap and review of the show at the moment, but have already updated our Glee quotes section with some gems from Bryan Ryan.

In between takes of Bryan and Will’s dynamic cover of Aerosmith’s “Dream On,” Harris sat down with me to talk about guest-starring on the Fox series, working with Whedon, and the Glee character he finds “dreamy.” (For those of you who haven’t seen the episode tonight, a mild spoiler alert warning!)

Tonight's episode of 'Glee' is definitely a must-see viewing extravaganza. First, Neil Patrick Harris guest-stars as Bryan Ryan, Mr. Schuester's former high school nemesis who causes trouble for the glee club. Second, it's directed by Joss Whedon, who also directed Harris in 'Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog.' Thrilling on many levels.
I sat in on a conference call and got the scoop on tonight's episode. And no, Whedon wouldn't talk about 'The Avengers,' but he had plenty to say about the wonders of 'Glee' and how much fun he had directing this episode.

"Glee" guy Will Schuester has been playing the field a bit since he split from his wife Terri.
Not intentionally.
But there was the short-lived relationship with Emma, the bed-sharing with April (Kristin Chenoweth) and the passionate make out session with Vocal Adrenaline's coach, Shelby (Idina Menzel).
Korbi TV spent some one-on-one time with Matthew Morrison who tried to explain his character's deal. "Will is in a confusing place in his life," Morrison says in the video interview below. "I mean, this is the first time he's been single in 15 years, so you know, there's a rediscovering of yourself and who you are as a newly-single person."
So, will Schuester get a chance to truly sow his wild oats?
"I'm down for the cause. If they need me to do that, I will oblige," Morrison insists.
Probably not with Menzel's character though. Apparently, Menzel wasn't exactly a fan of their kissing scenes.
