Ron Darling, Bill Ripken and Carlos Pena are among eight analysts who will offer tips and instruction to young baseball aspirants as part of a unique twist on a regular MLB Network standby.
On Tuesday, December 15 at 7 p.m., fans will be able to take part in an interactive lesson from eight of the network’s analysts that will stream across MLB Network’s social platforms and MLB.com. Eight analysts, who will also include Sean Casey, Mark DeRosa, Ryan Dempster, Cliff Floyd and Dave Valle, will watch videos submitted by kids via Instagram and Twitter with the hashtag #SandlotToTheShow and offer individualized feedback and instruction.
“You can give a nugget or two to almost anybody to make them a little bit better,” says Ripken, a former player for the Baltmore Orioles, in an interview. “We can make these kids a little better. It’s a domino effect. We can help them have more success.

America’s Pastime has fallen victim to the global coronavirus pandemic. For the moment, Major League Baseball spring training and Opening Day are on hold until April. Even as society has bigger concerns on its hands, the loss of baseball is a tough pill to swallow, especially for anyone too young to remember the 1994-95 strike.
But just as “social distancing” becomes the best way for average Joes and Janes to slow the spread of the virus, baseball fans with a PlayStation 4 can safely get their fix with Mlb The Show 20.
Before forking over $60 that could instead easily be overspent on a few ounces of hand sanitizer, let’s not forget that this is an annualized sports franchise, with changes year-over-year unlikely to be earth-shattering. It’s up to you, the consumer, to decide if what’s new is worth your while.
So what is new? Quite a bit, actually.

Precious: Based On The Novel “Push” By Sapphire (Lionsgate) In-your-face, but undeniably powerful film that follows the plight of an overweight inner-city teen (Gabourey Sidbe, a real find) who must deal with an abusive mother (Mo’Nique, in a career-making turn for which she won a most-deserved Best Supporting Actress Oscar), a baby born of her abusive, and absent, father, and trying to survive day-to-day with few people to offer her help, save for a sympathetic teacher (Paula Patton) in a special ed program. Director/producer Lee Daniels, a former personal manager/producer-turned-filmmaker, brings a kitchen sink authenticity to the proceedings, along with a cast of famous powerhouse performers, who manage to disappear into their roles. Tough stuff, but not to be missed. Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay (Geoffrey Fletcher). Bonuses: Commentary by Daniels; Featurettes; Interviews with Sapphire and Daniels; Deleted scene. Widescreen. Dolby 5.1 surround.
