In 1959, he founded his own architecture studio, and was active for more than 50 years. From 1968 to 1995, he was a professor at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, School of Architecture, in Copenhagen.
He designed many important buildings in Denmark and abroad. These include the Copenhagen Business School, the Royal Danish Opera, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs building in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
