I come from a family that bakes. We’re not professional bakers, but for as long as I can remember, we’ve gathered around homemade cakes at every birthday, spent every Thanksgiving eating way too much homemade pie, and shared trays of homemade Christmas cookies every December. My great-grandmother baked four pies a day to feed the workers on her farm and growing up, my mom was constantly baking bread for sandwiches or cookies for us to bring into class. To me, baking is much more than transforming flour and eggs into delicious concoctions; it’s about community, about sharing your hard work with others and expressing in a small way your appreciation of them. It’s about hours spent in the kitchen with family, learning tips and tricks passed down the generations, taking a pile of ordinary ingredients and, through chemistry, creating something special. While myriad cooking and baking programs air each year,...

If this weekend's Primetime Emmys attendees are dressed as beautifully as the Creative Arts' ones, it's going to be a red carpet to remember. On Saturday, the first of the 2013 Emmy Awards were handed out, but of course, all eyes were on the fashions. They were simply stunning."Smash's" Katharine McPhee looked ethereal in a Georges Hobeika gown. Ear cuffs added an edge to her lovely look. Dueling reality TV hosts Cat Deeley and Heidi Klum wowed. The "So You Think You Can Dance" host wore a Badgley Mishka gown with a sexy thigh-high slit. "The Project Runway" judge stunned in a strapless Roland Mouret dress with a black banded waist.Heidi and her "Project Runway" colleague Tim Gunn ended up winning the Outstanding Reality Host for a Reality or Reality Competition program. "So You Think You Can Dance" Season 2 runner-up Travis Wall has choreographed for the Oscars, is a two-time Emmy nominee and now he's the star of his own reality show on Oxygen, "All the Right Moves." Oh, and he's only 24.
Travis went from being a contestant to a choreographer on "Sytycd" before starting his own dance company, Shaping Sound -- which is the subject of "All the Right Moves" -- with fellow "Sytycd" alum (and Season 1 winner) Nick Lazzarini, as well as Teddy Forance and Kyle Robinson. The four friends and roommates "work together, have their lives taped ... and start getting real" on the new series, which premiered on July 31.
"All the Right Moves" returns this week (Tues., Aug. 21, 10 p.m. Et on Oxygen) with its second episode, which will continue to follow Travis, Nick, Teddy, Kyle and the rest of the dancers in the fledgling Shaping Sound company (including...

The Olympics are over, so that means it's time for an all-new, all-live performance/elimination double header of "So You Think You Can Dance"! Cat is wearing Heidi hair to celebrate! Even better, the entire show is dedicated to the work of one choreographer: Mia Michaels. Oh, and four people (two guys, two gals) are going home. Yay. Not. Our judges will be Nigel Lythgoe, Mary Murphy and guest judges ballet superstars Michael Nunn and Billy Trevitt. Michael and Billy are top ballet dancers who have a show which is not going to be named on "Sytycd" (psst, it's "Chance to Dance" on Ovation, and it debuts on Friday) but is produced...

After a two week hiatus, tonight’s Top 14 episode of Fox’s So You Think You Can Dance returns and tributes a very special lady: the show’s most prolific choreographer, Mia Michaels. The three-time Emmy winner will be feted for the entire two hours, as the seven pairs of dancers remaining will each perform one of her classic dances from previous seasons — everything from her famous “Bench” dance to “The Butt Piece.”
“They contacted me, and they were like, ‘We have an idea. We want this to happen,’” Michaels tells EW about how the episode came together. “It was quite an honor,...

As James Hibberd reported yesterday, Ryan Seacrest’s megabucks American Idol hosting contract will be up at the end of this season. With rumors swirling that Seacrest might defect for a hosting gig on the Today show, Idol fans are left to wonder what the show will be like without the tried-and-true Seacrest to navigate them through the latest pack of hopefuls — not to mention months of auditions leading up to the performances. "So, do you think you could interview Travis Wall?" We've been getting that request a lot around here, so thanks to everyone who pushed for it. We're happy to deliver!
Travis Wall is just 23-years-old, which is easy to forget when you consider what he's already managed to accomplish. Dancing all his life, he starred in a nationwide Dr. Pepper commercial when he was nine. He was performing on Broadway in a revival of The Music Man at 12. But perhaps his biggest break as a dancer came in 2006, when then 18-year-old Travis competed on the second season of So You Think You Can Dance.
If nothing else, you probably remember that gorgeous (and Emmy-winning) Mia Michaels routine he performed with Heidi Groskreutz called The Bench. EW.com recently ranked it as #2 on their list of the 15 greatest So You Think You Can Dance routines.

Tonight is the season eight premiere of So You Think You Can Dance. And if you believe the commercials, the talent is better than ever before. Given the quality of dancers last season and the prior years, we do find that a little hard to believe. But knowing what a great vehicle the show is to expose these otherwise unknowns to millions of fans, it only makes sense that the b-boys, tappers, krumpers and ballerinas are crawling out of the woodwork to get on the show. So while we wait to see how this year's dancers measure up, here's a list of our favorite Sytycd routines to date.

In season five, the runner-up from season two, Travis Wall, returned to Sytycd to make his debut as a choreographer.

I hate when reality show judges lie to us. How many times have we found ourselves muttering, "No, Heidi, we don't need to send all four to Fashion Week," or "No, Bruno, Kate Gosselin didn't really 'get into' that rumba." So You Think You Can Dance's panel hoodwinked us with similar fibs, claiming their decision was next to impossible. When you see who was eliminated last night, you'll realize they're attempting a controversial dance called the Paso Delusional.

Aw hell no, Emmy. Just one year ago, I gave you a slight slap on the wrist for neglecting to nominate Cat Deeley — the enthusiastic, gorgeous, dedicated host of So You Think You Can Dance — for Outstanding Reality Show Host. And now, today, I’m feeling the worst kind of déjà vu — and thinking maybe this time around you need a swift kick in the a–. Because, once again, you’ve somehow forgotten all about the statuesque presenter, instead opting to give another shot at the trophy to the likes of Ryan Seacrest and Heidi Klum. Really, Emmy? Seacrest and Heidi?...

Newly separated Spencer Pratt spent his Memorial Day weekend moving out of his Pacific Palisades home while wife Heidi Montag enjoyed a beach weekend with friends in Malibu.
Heidi Montag spent her first weekend as a single woman partying with friends in Malibu, while estranged husband Spencer Pratt packed up his things and moved out of the couple’s Pacific Palisades home. A source told RadarOnline, “Spencer has moved out of [he and Heidi's] Pacific Palisades house… he’s no longer living there.” But are things really over between these two, or is this yet Another publicity stunt for the cameras?
Heidi has moved in with friend Jen Bunney (remember her from Laguna Beach?), and spent the weekend in Malibu enjoying the beach with friends. Heidi has already announced that she and Jen will begin filming a reality show together about their new single life, just as The Hills wraps up its final season.

Spencer Pratt has finally gone too far! Heidi’s rep confirms the couple is separated and she’s looking to move out of their home!
Spencer Pratt has finally alienated the only person on the planet that loved him: his wife of a year-and-a-half, Heidi Montag.
“Heidi is looking to move out due to all the fake bad press that Spencer controls. She’s tired of it and is looking for a place and wants to focus on her acting career,” Heidi’s rep told TMZ May 28.
Trouble has been brewing for The Hills couple for awhile now, and came to a crescendo when Spencer, 26, called the police on Heidi’s mother a few weeks ago. “It wasn’t just a sudden thing,” a source tells the website.
We’re told Heidi — pictured here in Malibu last Friday — is looking for a new place to live … in Malibu.

As we near the end of season 6, I challenge anyone to convince me that Michael Kors' and Nina Garcia's prolonged absences haven't been disastrous for this season of Project Runway. Nina herself more or less acknowledged this fact a few weeks back. An utter lack of continuity on the panel paved the way for the premature elimination of talents like Ra'mon, Epperson, and Shirin. And that's not the only problem it created — at least according to the vociferous Runway fans who comment on the boards of my TV Watch (thank you for weighing in each week!) and to recently auf'd designer Gordana Gehlhausen.

I don’t like reality television. First of all, it bores me. Second, I think it’s responsible for making a lot of people famous that shouldn’t even be on the celebrity radar of the vast majority of society. People like Paris Hilton (for her Simple Life show), or Heidi and Spencer. Or the Gosselins. Or any of the Hills people or the City people or Brody Jenner (he’s in a separate category) and many, many others. And there’s just so many reality shows. There’s shows about losing weight, finding love, getting married, racing, surviving, business, living in cool cities, living in bad conditions, dancing, being ugly, being pretty, getting rich, etc. It’s so exhausting. I get that it’s cheaper than scripted television, but that’s still not enough of a justification for putting on a show like The Bachelor and exposing us to...

15. Pasha & Sara's West Coast Swing Season 3, Top 14, July 11, 2007 "Oh, jeebus," we all (or, at least I) thought. "That camera-mugging doofus from season 2, Benji, is choreographing a West Coast swing number. And poor Pasha and Sara have just started working as partners, too. What kind of hot mess is this gonna be?" Turns out the joke was on us (or just me). The season 2 Sytycd champion pulled out all his signature moves — the shoe slide, the double cartwheel — but it was Pasha and Sara (i.e., the breaker who was not supposed to be able to do this) that brought the number home, performing as if they'd been swing dancing together for years and keeping the energy dialed to 11 without ever showing us the effort. 14. Lacey & Kameron's Contemporary Season 3, Top 20, June 13, 2007 In hindsight, there's actually not much to this Mia Michaels routine: Lacey's apparently upset, and she flails around a lot,...

Sesame Street is planning a parody of Mad Men to include in its 40th season. (Maybe it will go something like this?) My two all-time favorite programs! I die. It occurs to me that I'd love to watch a Sesame Street supplement series that spoofs All the other shows. We already know from 30 Rock that Muppetizing a show totally works. Well summer is yet again approaching its end. Yes I know we technically still have another month but August is short and it seems most kids have to go back mid-month anyway so I’m not too far off. I was afforded a nice break though as the mindlessness of summer TV provided little to be desired. But before I have to get back into the big swing of covering shows that are good, or should be canceled, or even ones that won’t last their first glorious season, I thought I would do a little coverage of this summer and look at what summer can offer its fair share of, reality TV. Now no reality TV is actually good TV so I’ve decided to only cover shows in two categories, The Bad and The So Bad It’s Good. Enjoy.

Hard work and the luck of the choreographer draw made all the difference on So You Think You Can Dance's results show Thursday with Ade and Melissa securing spots in the top six, while judges' favorite Janette Manrara, the sexy salsa dancer out of Miami, and fan favorite Jason Glover, the lyrical/contemporary dancer from Fresno, Calif., were sent home. Losing Janette "ruined my 100th celebration," Nigel Lythgoe told People after the show's 100th episode, agreeing that Melissa and Ade's heart-stopping rendition [1] of Tyce Diorio's moving tribute to the ongoing battle of women and breast cancer "certainly skewed the results." Mia Michaels, who called Janette her favorite of the season, also agreed that losing her "was awful." But even Melissa admitted that their amazing routine "saved us, I think," while Ade, who has had his ups and downs with the voting -- and just barely survived the bottom...
