Jen is a Multimedia Producer and a powerhouse of creative energy, tech + social media savvy, and community goodwill.
Vargas frequently supports creatives in her adopted home of Central Florida. She is a member of the Florida Cultural Alliance, a voting member of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Suncoast Chapter, and is an active Board Member alternate of Film Florida, which provides a leadership role in Florida's Film, Television, and Digital Media industries. Vargas serves as part of Film Florida's Industry & Association Council and Marketing & Communications Committee. She also serves on Valencia College's Digital Media Advisory Board and is a former Community Advisory Board member of Orlando NPR affiliate WMFE 90.7 and former Board Member of Women in Film and Television's Florida Chapter. Vargas is also a lifetime member of the International Thespian Society.
In 2011, Jen brought her social savvy to the Academy Awards while working on the Oscar campaign for award-winning documentary, "Tanzania: A Journey Within."
Outside of film and TV, Jen is a Technology and Social Media Ambassador in Orange County, Florida, as well as a member of the Orlando Tech Council. She also volunteers within her community as a Representative At Large of Orange County's Disability Advisory Board and its Veterans Subcommittee. She is a former member of 90.7 WMFE's Community Advisory Board and Content & Community Outreach Committee. Orlando Business Journal has named Jen one of Orlando's most influential Twitter users, is a Shorty Awards finalist, and was honored by CBS Interactive's TechRepublic as a 2013 Top Ten Tech Hero.
Along with her own popular online following, Vargas has helped local organizations and area non-profits with their social media including; The Maker Effect Foundation, Orlando Maker Faire, MakerFx Makerspace, Taste of Central Florida which benefits Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida and the Central Florida Homeless Coalition, The Schwartz Tech Awards, Women in Film and Television Florida, Film Florida, Orlando International Fringe Theatre Festival, Orlando Economic Development Commission, American Cancer Society of Central Florida, Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of Orlando, Relay For Life of Hunter's Creek, and American Cancer Society's R.O.C.K. Camp.
Jen writes a weekly column in Orlando Sentinel's Opinion section as part of their Central Florida 100 Most Influential community leaders. She is the current host and producer of FilmSlam, a popular 17 year old screening series dedicated to Florida's filmmakers at Orlando Museum of Art.
