Superhero drama Naomi has lost its fight with fate. The CW offering has been cancelled after one season, TVLine has learned.
Despite a promising launch — the show’s January debut ranked as The CW’s third-most watched season premiere of the 2021-22 season — its audience has since fallen by more than 40 percent. That said, its audience still tied for No. 5 among all CW dramas. The May 10 season finale will now serve as a series finale as well.

In our Q&a series Last Call, we get down to the bottom of every last thing with some of our favorite celebs - from the last time they were starstruck to the last song they listened to. This week, Mary-Charles Jones takes our call.
"To get the chance to do something with [Ava DuVernay] and getting to see firsthand why she's so well-respected and why she is such this powerhouse of a woman has been amazing."
When Mary-Charles Jones booked the role of Annabelle in The CW's "Naomi," the first thing she did was run to her nearest comic-book store to pick up a few copies of the fairly new DC comic series. "The girl at the comic book store was like, 'Did you know they're making this into a show?' I was like, 'Oh, I had no idea,' and I just kind of walked on out,...

Perhaps it was Dee’s words of wisdom, the bounty hunter’s aggressive attack, or all of the above. But when The CW’s titular Naomi chose the person she wanted to be romantic with, she picked and kissed Nathan.
Kaci Walfall, who stars as Naomi, says the smooch was doubly special because it was her first on-screen kiss. However, if you think it was romantic in real life, the actress attests that it was too technical to be anything close to mushy.

Naomi is the latest entry in The CW’s slate of shows based on DC Comics’ characters. Written and executive produced by Ava DuVernay and Jill Blankenship, and adapted from the comic book of the same name by Brian Michael Bendis, David F. Walker and Jamal Campbell for the Wonder Comics imprint, the show follows the journey of a cool, confident, comic book–loving teenager as she pursues her hidden destiny.
Naomi looks at superheroes from the perspective of the small town folks who read about it in the news. Naomi runs a Superman fan site. He is fiction in her world… until he’s not. When she misses a Superman sighting—or what everyone assumes is a “stunt”—in her small town of Port Oswego, she jumps at the opportunity to investigate the appearance. The more she looks into the stunt, the closer she gets to learning the truth about herself.

Most of the superheroes on the DC-on-The-cw dramas have a long history with each other. Their comic book counterparts have been around for decades, and even in these adaptations, the characters have crossed over into each other’s worlds to team up and take down villains more than once.
But when “Naomi” joins the lineup on Jan. 11, the show — and the titular character, played by Kaci Walfall — is on her own.
She may be a big fan of Superman within the series — so much so that she runs one of the largest fan sites in the world about the DC hero — but she lives in a very different universe than the one in which The CW’s Superman (of “Superman & Lois”) resides.
“I want this to be an autonomous story about Naomi,” executive producer Ava DuVernay tells Variety. “One of the things I really wanted was for her to live in her own universe.

Even though high schooler Naomi (Kaci Walfall) tells us in her opening voiceover that “everyone has a superhero origin story,” hers immediately looks different enough from most on TV to stand apart. For one, she follows in the footsteps of Javicia Leslie as The CW’s second Black woman to lead a DC superhero show, albeit one as different from “Batwoman” in tone and storyline as can be. From executive producers Ava DuVernay and Jill Blankenship — and with canny, fluid pilot direction by Amanda Marsalis — the CW series feels something like if “Superman” blended up weekly comics with the sensibilities of a “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” or “Secret Files of Alex Mack.” For another, Walfall’s Naomi isn’t some moody outcast waiting in the wings for something amazing to happen to her, as is the case for so many other potential heroes. In fact, as the first episode conveys...

The CW has unveiled its first look at Kaci Walfall as the titular hero of its upcoming series Naomi.
During Saturday’s DC FanDome presentation, the network shared a teaser that sees Walfall’s Naomi on the case of what seems to be a mysterious stunt involving superman.
“I need this for my site,” Naomi interrupts her class before rushing out into the hallways.
After grabbing her bags to get to the center of action Asap, Naomi skateboards through the hallways of her school and reaches her destination. However, potentially overwhelmed by what she sees, Naomi loses consciousness. But right before it’s lights out for her, she sees a familiar silouhette shoot through the sky.

The CW is starting to make decisions about new series for the 2021-22 broadcast season.
The network has picked up All American: Homecoming and Naomi to series.
It comes as the youth-skewing broadcaster had tough decisions to make over which projects to pick up. Powerpuff, a live-action reboot of the hit cartoon, is being reworked and re-piloted off-cycle, while the Nancy Drew spinoff Tom Swift remains in consideration.
Black Lightning spinoff Painkiller and Jennie Snyder Urman’s millennial nun dramedy Our Ladies of Brooklyn are not moving forward.
The All American spinoff and Ava DuVernay’s superhero project join a reboot of classic sci-fi drama 4400 straight-to-series. The CW is set to unveil its full fall schedule and midseason 2022 programming on Tuesday.

“Kevin Can Wait” has been canceled by CBS after two season, Variety has learned.
The CBS sitcom stars Kevin James, Leah Remini, Taylor Spreitler, Mary-Charles Jones, James Digiacomo, Ryan Cartwright, Lenny Venito, Gary Valentine, and Leonard Earl Howze. James, Rock Reuben, Rob Long, Jeff Sussman, Andy Fickman, Tony Sheehan, and Steve Mosko are executive producers for Sony Pictures TV and CBS Television Studios.
“Kevin Can Wait” underwent a creative overhaul between seasons one and two, with original co-star Erinn Hayes’ character written off the show and Remini joining the cast, reuniting James with his former “King of Queens” co-star.
But the show still saw a big ratings slide in its second season. The cancelation after investing in two seasons is a tough cut for Sony Pictures Television, which will shop the series to other buyers.

CBS has opted not to pick up a third season of its Kevin James comedy series Kevin Can Wait.
This is one of the biggest casualties at CBS this season. The network had set out to shake things up on Monday, where its ratings fortunes had fallen. It has now canceled Kevin Can Wait, Superior Donuts and Scorpion and only has renewed Man with a Plan.
Fueled by the popularity of its star Kevin James and boosted by The Bing Bang Theory as a lead, Kevin Can Wait got off to a blazing start in fall 2016 and went on to become a sturdy Monday 8 Pm anchor. The series ranked as the most watched and highest rated new comedy last season. But there was some ratings decline over the course of the season.
Additionally, midway through Season 1, the series parted ways with co-creator and showrunner Bruce Helford, who now steers ABC’s Roseanne revival.
