An ex-head of a Call of Duty developer suggests that Call of Duty's publisher may encourage controversy.
Michael Condrey, the former head of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3, WWII, and Advanced Warfare developer Sledgehammer Games, recently hinted that it might be Activision who pushes for the series to feature controversial content.
“I respect every developer who strives to deliver their work as an extension or reflection of their artistic vision,” said Condrey in an interview with Venture Beat. "That said, Mw seems like a tough challenge for any studio, especially if they are being pushed by publishing to be more controversial and 'darker' for the sake of headlines.”
While Condrey does not state that's what's happening with the upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, nor does he even outright say that it has happened in the past when his former studio worked on the game. However, he...

Aside from the switch back to a World War II setting, there are plenty of changes to be found in Call of Duty: WWII. For starters, the game’s single-player campaign is swapping regenerating health for a health bar and the multiplayer mode is switching to defined classes, dubbed ‘divisions.’ One of the more interesting additions though comes in the form of the game’s Headquarters mode, which up until now, has remained largely under wraps.
Speaking to Eurogamer, Sledgehammer Games co-founder Michael Condrey has finally shed some light on the new mode, which will allow 48 players to engage with each other in a shared, online social space. When you first boot up the game’s multiplayer, you’ll immediately jump into Headquarters, which takes place three days after the Allied Invasion on Normandy beach.
Here, players can choose to pick up quests (referred to in-game as mission challenges), which...

One of the most surprising games of E3 2016, Hideo Kojima's Death Stranding, will not be on stage this year when Sony presents their wares. Read Kojima's tweet below and see if you can decipher it. Plus, find out when you can see the man, himself, live and in person at E3!
When we began on the long, winding road to E3 2017, one of the games we were most excited to get an update on was Hideo Kojima's first game since Konami, Death Stranding. Alas, we aren't so lucky this year as Kojima has tweeted out that his team has decided to forego E3 2017 in favor of spending that time developing. That didn't mean Kojima, himself, wouldn't still be in attendance, though.
Apologies to our fans, Death Stranding will not be @ E3 as we are fully focused on development. Pls see me with @geoffkeighley on 6/14! pic.twitter.com/w...

Developer Sledgehammer Games has confirmed the single-player component of Call of Duty: WWII will feature a “global cast” of men, women, and children fighting on both sides of the conflict.
Word comes by way of GamesRadar, who caught up with the studio’s co-founder Michael Condrey to talk all things WWII and, in particular, its “emotional” campaign – a campaign that will do away with auto-regenerating health as we know it. It was here that Condrey reaffirmed Sledgehammer’s plan to tell most of its story through the lens of Red Daniels, but it seems players will also have the chance to step into the grubby boots of Russo, a French Resistance woman to be voiced by Jeannie Rousseau.
Beyond that, little is known about the full voice cast for Call of Duty: WWII, but it’s worth noting that previous entries in the franchise have attracted top-tier Hollywood talent including Gary Oldman,...

No Auto-Regenerating Health In Call Of Duty: WWII’s Campaign; Sledgehammer Bigs Up “Emotional” Story
Since it was first introduced via Punch-Out in ’83, the concept of regenerating health has become a tried-and-tested hallmark of the video game industry, and if there’s one franchise that embraces the game mechanic wholeheartedly, it’s Call of Duty. In the heat of battle, players simply have to avoid taking damage for a set amount of time and voila, your in-game avatar is right as rain.
That all changes with the launch of Call of Duty: WWII though, with developer Sledgehammer Games revealing that, in an effort to add a heightened sense of realism, players will be required to limp over to their nearby medic when their health runs low. The same rule applies to ammunition; once that stash of bullets is gone, you’ll have to call upon your fellow squadmates for help.
Glen Schofield, co-founder of Sledgehammer, offered up some context in a recent interview with Polygon,...
