For the Australian alt-dance trio Rüfüs Du Sol, playing Coachella feels like returning to a home away from home. Composed of Tyrone Lindqvist on vocals, Jon George on keys, and James Hunt on drums, the group had long dreamed of playing the California festival before they showcased their album Bloom, a celestial 11-track house album, at Coachella in 2016, followed by a live set in the desert in 2019.

Over the Halloweekend, this writer made the trek out to the Nos Events Center in San Bernardino, California, for the return of Insomniac’s Escape Halloween music festival after having to skip last year’s festivities due to the ongoing pandemic, and for both nights, I had an absolutely incredible experience that renewed my Halloween spirit and further fueled my love for electronic music.
On Friday night, we made our way through thousands and thousands of attendees as we descended upon the Nos grounds that were fully decked out for Halloween, and we spent most of our evening at the Grimm Stage, where the triple threat lineup of Eric Prydz, The Chainsmokers, and DJ Snake capped off the evening and nearly blew the roof off the outdoor venue. Considering this was my first live music event post-pandemic, it was just nice to immerse myself in all things Edm for the evening after all these months.

Once again, Insomniac’s Escape Psycho Circus took over the Nos Events Center in San Bernardino this past weekend for yet another thrilling two-day event highlighting some of the best electronic music acts from across the world with tons of spooky shenanigans, just in time for the Halloween season. For 2019, Escape not only revamped its stages, but also several key areas of the festival, and these improvements were very welcome, making it the biggest and best year in the long-running festival’s impressive history.
More than 65 artists played on Escape’s four stages, including the likes of Deadmau5, Dillon Francis, Rl Grime, Dombresky, TestPilot, Eric Prydz, Excision, ATLiens, Valentino Khan, San Holo, Nicole Moudaber (who performed a B3B set with both Dubfire and Paco Asuna), Alesso, i_o, Bear Grillz, Chris Liebing B2B with Charlotte De Witte, Timmy Trumpet, Headhunterz, and so many more.

MTV is expanding its global live events business with the acquisition of the SnowGlobe Music Festival, the Viacom-owned network announced Monday. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The annual three-day, outdoor New Year’s Eve music festival runs Dec. 29-31 in South Lake Tahoe, California, with over 20,000 fans coming each day for a mix of musical performances, live action sports, interactive art exhibitions and a countdown party at midnight on New Year’s Eve.
MTV plans to expand the festival with additional dates and locations worldwide, and utilize the SnowGlobe team to launch other new events. The network is looking to SnowGlobe as a platform to “reinvent” its New Year’s Eve coverage, “serving as the centerpiece for multiplatform programming and connecting live with the action at MTV’s iconic Times Square studio.”

Over the weekend, Insomniac’s Escape: Psycho Circus event transformed the Nos Events Center into the biggest Halloween dance party of the year, with 125,000 attendees making their way to San Bernardino to experience more than 70 different electronic music artists who performed on four oversized stages over the course of two days. I realize that living in Southern California means I’m privy to some truly jaw-dropping Halloween-themed events and activities, but Escape weekend has quickly become my favorite time during the entire month of October, as it feels like two of my worlds colliding—electronic music and horror—into one unforgettable experience. And with each year, Escape: Psycho Circus continues to get even bigger and better, with this year’s festivities being the best time I’ve had to date.
For this year’s Escape Halloween celebration, Insomniac really amped up their overall efforts throughout the entire Nos Events Center.

One of my favorite traditions for Halloween weekend has become Insomniac’s Escape: Psycho Circus, a two-day Halloween festival and freak show that transforms the Nos Events Center in San Bernardino, California into a devilish playground where attendees can immerse themselves in endless festive frights while checking out over 65 of the best electronic music acts performing all weekend on four different horror-themed stages.
As someone who attends a variety of electronic festivals throughout the year, Escape: Psycho Circus is one of the best, and their Escape Asylum Halloween maze is one of the most enjoyable attractions I’ve ever experienced. The fact that they put you into a straitjacket upon entry only adds to the terror and hysteria you experience as you make your way through the haunt’s 32,000 square feet of creepy shocks and jolts.

Eric Prydz has announced today that his tribute song to super fan James Lillo will be released tomorrow, December 28 under his Pryda alias. Titled “Lillo,” the song was first unveiled earlier in the month during Prydz’ charity performance at Sound nightclub, with the producer promising it would be released soon.
James Lillo’s story hit the dance music blogosphere last month after Prydz agreed to host a charity performance in his honor after finding out that the cancer stricken fan’s last wish was to see him play live once more. Sadly, Lillo passed away before the tribute performance came to fruition, leading the Swedish DJ to dedicate a song in his memory as well.

Last month we reported that Eric Prydz had agreed to grant the wish of a terminally ill fan named James Lillo to see the DJ play one last time. Once Prydz’ team caught wind of the story, the producer offered to not only perform in the fan’s honor, but to donate all proceeds from the show to a charity of his choosing as well. It was a story that was both heartwarming and heartbreaking, compounded by the fact that Lillo passed away before Prydz was able to fulfill his wish.
In light of Lillo’s passing, Eric Prydz has dedicated an unreleased ID to his memory. The DJ dropped the song in his set over the weekend at Sound Nightclub, and a low quality video of the ID has now surfaced on YouTube. The track features an uplifting sound, complete with emotive synth arpeggios, cascading chord progressions and four on the floor rhythms.

Among the wealth of updates to come out of the Eric Prydz camp as of late was the promise of a new Ep under his progressive house moniker Pryda. In addition to learning about the incoming Epic 5.0 in October, Prydz announced last week that a new Ep was on the way after debuting some new material on the live front. Now, Pry 037 has finally arrived, bringing with it a selection of three ethereal new tracks.
The new collection kicks off with “Choo,” a masterful techno leaning effort that fans have been waiting ages for. A subdued mechanical rhythm introduces the piece, as slowly evolving synth melodies are worked into the mix. “Choo” gradually develops over the course of nine minutes, utilizing space and repetition to create a haunting backdrop.
The Ep continues with “The Future,” a driving dancefloor cut with spacey synths, rolling basslines and persistent four on the floor rhythms.

As if that weren’t enough, the Techno icon just relaunched his Epic Radio show and dropped an episode packed with unreleased material.
Epic Radio episode 14 comes loaded with a total of five IDs over the span of an hour, offering fans plenty of new music to savor over. In addition to the unreleased tracks, Prydz works in a number of other techno gems like 16th Element’s “Warp” and Dosem’s “Chase The Link.”

After announcing last month that the famed Epic live show would soon be ushered into a new era, Eric Prydz revealed this week that Epic 5.0 will see its unveil during Creamfields Steelyard next May. To get fans pumped for the incoming iteration of the show, the Techno icon has shared a new recap video that captures 4.0 in all its glory.
The recap video lives up to the stage production’s name, presenting a captivating montage of Epic 4.0’s amazing visual displays. Set to the backdrop of Prydz’ stunning anthem “Opus,” the one and a half minute long clip shows off 4.o’s brilliant light show and mesmerizing holographic capabilities.
Watching the video, it’s hard to imagine how Eric Prydz and his team will manage to top Epic 4.0. With little detail about the production itself being revealed and a several month long wait ahead of us until Epic 5.0 will see its debut,...

Last month, Eric Prydz announced that his acclaimed performance setup would be receiving a facelift with Epic 5.0. The Swedish DJ has turned heads over the years with his technologically innovative live productions in the Epic series, with past incarnations introducing 3D mapped visuals and holographic capabilities. Considering his penchant for pushing the envelope, fans were naturally excited by the prospect of a new chapter in the Epic saga.
We still don’t know what exactly Epic 5.0 will entail, aside from Prydz’ remark that it will “blow your head off,” but fans can at least rest easy in the knowledge of when the production will be unveiled. The superstar producer will officially debut the new show on May 27, 2017 at Creamfields Steelyard. Anticipation for 2017’s major festivals is at an all time high, with Coachella‘s lineup serving as the holy grail of the entire season. We’ve already heard some rumors about the alleged headliners, while DJ Khaled inadvertently spilled the beans on his slot at the festival. Now we have another enticing update to ponder with a list that attempts to predict the entire lineup.
A website called TravelGrom has consistently made predictions about Coachella lineups in the past with a high degree of accuracy compared to the average rumor, and they’ve just offered up their projections for 2017. While the information is just conjecture at this point, TravelGrom predicted last year’s lineup with 64% accuracy. If that figure holds true again, over half of the list will wind up on the official lineup.
The alleged lineup includes a diverse array of styles, with representation from Edm, Rock, Rap, Pop and everything in between.

Over the weekend, Eric Prydz celebrated Halloween in style with a number of choice DJ appearances, hitting Southern California’s Escape Psycho Circus before heading over to Las Vegas for a performance at Marquee Dayclub. The Swedish legend took the opportunity to test out some unreleased material at both shows, offering up a total of four IDs for fans to enjoy.
We previously heard “Escape ID2” yesterday, and now we have a second unreleased track from the same set to preview. The sample features a relaxed dreamy vibe as spiralling arpeggios glide over mechanical techno rhythms. The track slowly evolves in classic progressive fashion, as lush pads join the mix while filter swept synth melodies continue to expand and contract. It’s believed that both Escape IDs will eventually surface under the Pryda moniker.

Eric Prydz is one busy guy. The progressive house producer maintains a busy release schedule, juggling three separate monikers while regularly dropping strong efforts from each. During his set at Insomniac’s Escape Psycho Circus over the weekend, the Swedish DJ was generous enough to test out some new material, and thanks to a fan in the audience who had the foresight to record the whole thing, the ID is now making its rounds on YouTube.
The “Escape ID” is a sprawling techno cut that kicks off with a pounding backbeat and a repeated vocal sample as ominous strings ring out in the distance. The tune is definitely a slow burner as it gradually unfolds over the course of nearly eight minutes, as Prydz introduces various elements throughout its timeline. The instrumentation is minimalistic, with simple bassline and rigid drums crafting entrancing rhythms. Around the halfway mark, the ID breaks...

Original Post: With the Amsterdam Dance Event now underway, it’s time for the DJ Mag Top 100 to be revealed. As much of a joke as the list has become lately, we all still look forward to it each and every year and though it doesn’t hold too much legitimacy in the eyes of true dance music fans, it’s always interesting to see who ends up coming out on top.
Leaks and rumors have pointed to Martin Garrix emerging as #1 for 2016, something which would certainly make sense given the huge year he’s had. Not to mention he’s also been releasing new tracks left, right and centre this week. As opposed to the uplifting, melodic ID that Prydz premiered at Edc Las Vegas last month, “Opium ID1” exhibits more of the elegant simplicity characteristic of the Swede’s usual releases. The first day of Edc Las Vegas is in the books, and for our money, Eric Prydz‘s performance on the CircuitGROUNDS was the standout set of the evening. After an hour-and-a-half-long journey that saw the Swedish DJ/producer explore his full stylistic range, he capped off his time slot with an unreleased ID that left the audience spellbound.
Even though it’s built on a trademark Eric Prydz synth arpeggio, the track (which fans are calling “Nopus”) swells up into a markedly more uplifting, trance-y progression. A brilliant firework display dazzled everyone in attendance as the as-yet-unreleased ID drew to a close, making the performance a tough act for Kaskade to follow.
As with when he ended his Edc Las Vegas 2015 set with “Opus” months before actually releasing the track, it’s likely that Eric Prydz will play this new song out a fair amount before revealing its title or official release date.

In case you weren’t already brimming with anticipation over deadmau5 and Eric Prydz’ upcoming set during Tomorrowland Belgium, the latest bit of information about the performance should get you there. The former artist has revealed that the two will perform a live set at ID&T’s flagship festival.

Shortly after both artists played Ultra Music Festival separately three months ago, deadmau5 revealed that they would perform together at Tomorrowland Belgium. He also said that they would rent out a studio in Brussels for two weeks leading up to the event, but in the time between they’ve also spent time in his own studio as well.
As the Tomorrowland Belgium dates draw near, you can expect to hear more updates regarding deadmau5 and Eric Prydz’ live set together. In the meantime, keep on the lookout for their upcoming joint release, as it will hopefully arrive before the fest.

If she doesn’t remember deadmau5‘ Cube as his all-time greatest stage show concept, she’s too young for you, bro.
The decorated progressive house icon has turned out no shortage of visual masterpieces to accompany his live performances, but none as widely celebrated as the Cube – and he’s now given his fans a first look at its long-awaited reincarnation.
Instead of using a more industry standard computer-aided drafting (Cad) drawing software, deadmau5 used the Unreal Engine – which was used to by development teams to design games like Rune, Bioshock and Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell. As evidenced by the CG rendering videos deadmau5 posted to Instagram though, the software has real-world applications as well.
Prototyping cubev2 in Vr with Unreal. Possibly the coolest shit in the world.
