It’s been four years since Patrick J. Adams suited up — get it? — as Mike Ross on the USA legal drama Suits. Since then the Canadian native’s continued acting, portraying everything from an astronaut and preacher to, yes, a lawyer. Ahead, check out what Adams has been in since Suits ended in 2019.
‘The Right Stuff’ marked Patrick J. Adams’s first project after ‘Suits’
From lawyer to astronaut, Adams took a step back in time with the 2020’s The Right Stuff. The Disney+ adaptation based on Tom Wolfe’s bestselling book of the same name followed Adams as John Glenn and the rest of the original Mercury 7.
The period drama ran for one season on Disney+ before being canceled and reportedly shopped to other networks (via Deadline). All eight episodes are available to stream on Disney+.

Prime Video Cancels 'A League of Their Own' Despite Season 2 Renewal in the Midst of Writers Strikes
Unfortunately, it’s two strikes and your out for the Prime Video series “A League of Their Own.” After a critically acclaimed first season on the Amazon service, the adaption of the iconic 1992 movie of the same name was canceled, but the streamer announced that it would get a four-episode second season before wrapping up. However, it has been announced that those plans have changed and that Prime Video would not be moving forward with the abbreviated Season 2 after all.

The co-creator and star of A League of Their Own is speaking out after Prime Video's decided to cancel the drama series despite previously renewing it.
The series was canceled alongside The Peripheral on Friday night, with many believing both were casualties of the ongoing SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes.
Abbi Jacobson, who plays Carson Shaw in the series, took to social media over the weekend after Prime Video rescinded the show's four-episode second season.
"What luck I have had to get to tell these stories and play this character I love so much," she wrote.
"What a rare thing in life. And so I am sad today."
Jacobson addressed the rumors that the series was let go due to the dual strikes.

“A League of Their Own” creator Abbi Jacobson is furious at the cancellation of her show.
Prime Video is not moving forward with the previously ordered second — and final — season of comedy-drama A League Of Their Own, cocreated and starring Jacobson, Deadline has learned.
The series was a reimagining of the 1992 film, A League of Their Own, which was about the women who formed their own professional baseball league during World War II.
Jacobson was Carson Shaw, D’Arcy Carden (The Good Place) was Greta Gill, and Chanté Adams was Max Chapman in the series.
Production delays wrought by the ongoing Hollywood strikes was blamed by Prime sources for the demise.
That excuse didn’t sit well with Jacobson.

“A League of Their Own”, Prime Video’s series inspired by Penny Marshall’s 1992 feature, is no more.
On Friday, Aug. 18, Deadline reported the show had been cancelled, with the streamer deciding to rescind its original announcement that “League” had been picked up for a brief four-episode second season that would conclude the storyline.
According to the outlet, the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes were behind the decision; since production wouldn’t be able to begin on the new episodes until 2024 at the earliest, this would push the premiere date of those episodes to 2025 — resulting in a three-year gap between the first and second seasons.

Prime Video has canceled the shortened Season 2 of “A League of Their Own” amid the double Hollywood strike.

Prime Video has canceled “The Peripheral,” despite the Chloë Grace Moretz-led sci-fi series receiving a renewal for a second season in February.

Prime Video has ordered the second installment of “A League of Their Own,” which will be a four-episode limited series, as previously leaked much to fans’ disappointment.

Abbi Jacobson and Will Graham’s “A League of Their Own” series on Amazon’s Prime Video will return for a shortened final season of four episodes, according to multiple reports.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Amazon made the decision after months of negotiations that included a reduction of the show’s licensing fee by Sony, who owns the rights to the movie. The streaming arm of the retail and tech company sought to lower the budget and production costs for a second season. Even a movie was considered for the show’s conclusion, according to THR sources.
Co-creator of the show Will Graham tweeted in response to the reports, adding onto a thread he began earlier Tuesday morning.

“A League of Their Own” is getting another chance on the diamond, but the crew will only be playing a half-game. The Prime Video TV adaptation of the beloved film has been renewed for a second season — but it will be the series’ last, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
What’s more, the show from “Broad City’s” Abbi Jacobson and Will Graham, who also serves as showrunner on Amazon’s “Daisy Jones & The Six” limited series, will receive an abbreviated run of only four hourlong episodes; the first season, which released all at once on August 12, 2022, consists of eight. Over a month ago, Will Graham and Abbi Jacobson’s new “A League of Their Own” television series premiered on Amazon Prime Video, and while no news of a renewal for a second season has been released yet, Jacobson is grateful that the work she started in 2018 has finally made it to the small screen. In addition to creating the show, Jacobson plays eventual Rockford Peaches catcher Carson Shaw, who discovers a lot more about herself than just her love for baseball along the way.
Jacobson’s character is happily married to a soldier off fighting in the war, but when she meets Greta Gill (D’Arcy Carden), she begins to gravitate toward her teammate, the first basewoman, in a totally different but intense way. Jacobson spoke with TheWrap in a spoiler-filled Zoom conversation five weeks after the show first dropped, discussing how she feels about its, her hardest scenes to shoot and more.

Television Rating: 4.5/5.0
The creators of this new “A League of Their Own” – one of whom is Abbi Jacobson, who is also the main character – made the right choice of creating a whole new universe involving the Rockford Peaches of the All-American Girls baseball league, and as a twist added a story about Black Americans trying to survive during the World War II era. Jacobson is Carson Shaw, the team catcher and married to a solider at war. Chanté Adams is Maxine, a talented pitcher who is not allowed to be on the team because she’s black. Their stories eventually intersect, as the Peaches strive toward the championship.

Mexican American actress Roberta Colindrez plays another gay Latina in Abbi Jacobson's "A League of Their Own," but that doesn't mean she's been typecast. "I don't think that being gay and Latina is a monolithic experience," Colindrez tells Popsugar in a recent interview. Her character Lupe García, the Rockford Peaches' pitcher, is quite dynamic. She can spy hypocrisy, even when she's trying to please; has no shame in her game, even when the world tells her she should; and finds a way to live in the present, even as she deals with trauma from her past.
"I do play gay Latinas because I present as gay and Latina. And I think that a lot of times, definitions are very much more visual for people than they are anything else."
You may recognize Colindrez from one of her 30-plus roles, including playing Nico, the bartender and love interest on Tanya Saracho's "Vida,...

It is a tricky thing, recreating a beloved classic. Since the 1992 premiere of Penny Marshall’s “A League of Their Own” audiences have fallen in love again and again with Dottie Henson, Kit Keller, Marla Hooch, and the rest of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League. But these characters were based on real people, and there was only so much that could fill 90 minutes in a ’90s movie. Now, Abbi Jacobson and Will Graham are filling in the stories the movie left out — namely those of Black and queer players — as seen through the eyes of Carson Shaw (Jacobson) and Max Chapman (Chanté Adams), the central characters of Prime Video’s take on “A League of Their Own.”
“The impetus behind this whole endeavor is our love for Penny Marshall’s movie,” executive producer Hailey Wierengo told IndieWire. “We don’t think it needs to be improved upon. We don...

As the few international players on the field, Lupe García (Roberta Colindrez), Jess McCready (Kelly McCormack) and Esti González (Priscilla Delgado) form a friendship that shares its ups and downs in Amazon Prime Video’s “A League of Their Own.”
After women from all over the United States (and even outside of it) flock to the All American Girls Professional Baseball League tryouts, the show zooms in on the players who become The Rockford Peaches. Roberta Colindrez portrays pitcher Lupe García, who comes to the league from Mexico, though the public relations men try to sell her as Spanish to make her foreign status more digestible. She has her fair share of highs and lows in the series: bonding with Coach Dove Porter (Nick Offerman), sitting on the bench due to an arm injury and more.

Prime Video’s “A League of Their Own” tackles many themes, but one in particular that comes up, again and again, is female friendship — and that theme truly takes center stage in the series’ emotional finale episode.
Inspired by the beloved film of the same name, “A League of Their Own” follows the development of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League and how it changes the lives of the Rockford Peaches players. But the series also takes its own path to explore the intersections of race and gender, as well as sports, during the historical beginning of the girls baseball league during World War II.
The series also spotlights queer storylines that change the lives of the team members. Main character Carson Shaw (Abbi Jacobson) meets Greta Gill (D’Arcy Carden) and Jo De Luca (Melanie Field) on her way to tryouts. Greta and Jo share a tight bond, with plans...

Prime Video’s “A League of Their Own” series only just launched, but the show’s creators are already hard at work on a potential second season.
“We’re here with you taking a break from working on Season 2 of the show,” series co-creator Will Graham told TheWrap in a recent interview. “There definitely is a lot more to this story.”
The first season, out on Prime Video now, sees Carson Shaw (Abbi Jacobson), Greta Gill (D’Arcy Carden), Jo De Luca (Melanie Field) and more gather at tryouts for the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League, eventually settling on the story of the Rockford Peaches. Within the Illinois-based team are stories of all kinds of women, but one storyline falls outside the Aagpbl with Max Chapman (Chanté Adams), who carves her own niche in baseball later on in the show. Season 1 ends with some physical and literal twists, but the story is far from over.

Penny Marshall's iconic film about the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League (Aagpbl) was a box office smash when it came out in 1992. In 2012, it was preserved by the National Film Industry for being "culturally significant."
Thankfully this reboot, or re-imagining as the creators like to call it, builds upon the core themes and expands to include a broader range of characters.
There are plenty of nods to the film, but this new series allows the players room to breathe, giving them more rich and complex identities instead of tokenizing them.
This time there are queer characters, something that represents the Aagpbl players more authentically instead of straight-washing (even though these characters are fictional). Not only that, but there are Black and Latina characters, which were sorely lacking in the original.
As much as the original film is a product of its time (1992 was 30 years ago!), so is the series.

“Broad City” co-creator Abbi Jacobson and “Mozart in the Jungle” executive producer Will Graham give “A League of Their Own” a modern makeover for the upcoming Amazon Prime Video series, emphasizing LGBT storylines and the struggles of Black female athletes to play baseball during the World War II era. The show, which debuted this weekend, follows the basic outline of Penny Marshall’s 1992 movie of the same name: A catcher with a husband away at war quickly becomes a team leader, played in the update by Jacobson. Nick Offerman has stepped into the equivalent shoes of Tom Hanks as a disgraced-star-player-turned-manager. Here’s how the show stacks up against the 30-year-old movie, which introduced Rosie O’Donnell to pal Madonna and was itself an adaptation of a late-1980s documentary of the same name.
Abbi Jacobson plays catcher Carson Shaw, a reluctant leader exploring unexpected feelings for a teammate while her husband is serving overseas.

Note: The following contains spoilers for “A League of Their Own.”
Honoring Penny Marshall’s 1992 film, Prime Video’s new “A League of Their Own” series replicates the movie’s dual narrative in a new way. Carson Shaw (Abbi Jacobson) and Max Chapman (Chanté Adams) do not share the bond of sisterhood like the original film’s Dottie Hinson (Geena Davis) and Kit Keller (Lori Petty), but their love of baseball brings them together in the show and allows them to connect over their shared queer identities.
Carson Shaw haphazardly catches her train to tryouts, leaving behind her household and in some ways, her marriage to Charlie Shaw (Patrick J. Adams), though he has not yet returned from war. On this new adventure, she discovers not only a fierce love for her baseball team and the drive to win, but also women who like other women.

Thirty years after Penny Marshall’s home run hit film “A League of Their Own” (1992) hit TV screens, a reimagined series that has the heart of the story will do the same. Created by Abbi Jacobson who also stars in the series and Will Graham, the TV show broadens the scope of storytelling that captures the women who went to play baseball while the men were away for World War II.
The series does still center around the Midwestern All-American Girls Professional Baseball League, with four teams: the Rockford Peaches, Kenosha Comets, South Bend Blue Sox and Racine Belles. Will a good deal of action takes place on the diamond, more lies beyond the dugout and bases. Race, ethnicity and sexual orientation get a more detailed look in the eight hours of TV vs. the film’s two.

The new Prime Video series “A League of Their Own” acknowledges Penny Marshall’s 1992 hit film of the same name while deepening the story. While Marshall’s movie very much tackled misogynistic attitudes towards women playing baseball, it didn’t have the scope of diversity that the new series establishes, especially when it comes to exploring issues related to race and sexual orientation with the All American Girls Professional Baseball League players.
Like the 1992 film, the series explores the foundation of the All American Girls Professional Baseball League (Aaggpbl), but it dives into more of the individual stories of players who come from minority backgrounds. Starring Abbi Jacobson as Carson Shaw and Chanté Adams as Max Chapman, the show weaves the two narratives of these characters together in a complex story that’s fun yet surprisingly intimate.

When Brad Pitt, as Oakland A’s general manager Billy Beane in the 2011 modern classic “Moneyball,” rhetorically asked, “How can you not be romantic about baseball,” he wasn’t talking about the inevitability of love and sports colliding. “Bull Durham” this was not. What Billy was referring to (via Aaron Sorkin and Steven Zaillian’s script) was the sentimental wish-fulfillment America’s pasttime so often and so easily lends itself to realizing. He may as well have asked, “How can you not dream?” For even when those dreams are dashed, as Billy’s were time and time again, the sport known for guaranteeing three tries per at-bat is thus the one most encouraging of idealism, of myth-making, of hope.

The 1992 movie A League of Their Own shed light on an untold piece of American history, highlighting the women who played professional baseball in the 1940s while the nation’s men were fighting in World War II. (It still holds up, too.) Amazon’s new series adaptation — premiering this Friday; I’ve seen the first four episodes — aims to expand the movie’s storytelling canvas by addressing the LGBTQ repression and racial discrimination rampant in that era. It’s a noble effort… but that nobility doesn’t necessarily make it dramatically compelling. The new League of Their Own is a...

Baseball isn’t just a game; it’s a lifeline and a pathway to self-discovery in Prime Video‘s seriocomic twist on the beloved 1992 movie A League of Their Own, about the pioneering All-American Girls Professional Baseball League during wartime in the 1940s. You’ll have to wait until the fifth (of eight) episodes to hear someone say, “There’s no crying in baseball.” Significantly, it’s not a bullying coach who says it, but one of the Rockford Peaches, chiding one of their own for not standing up for herself and for the team. There’s also not a lot of laughter, at least of the belly-laugh variety, in the new League’s earnest depiction of gender and racial discrimination and prejudice. “This isn’t even real baseball, kid,” quips the condescending coach, former pro, Dove Porter. Reluctant team leader Carson Shaw (Broad City’s Abbi Jacobson, ...

There’s still no crying in baseball, unless it’s to cheer this welcome reboot, A League of Their Own. Inspired by the 1992 film, the eight-episode series brings the all-female Rockford Peaches — part of the first-ever women’s pro sports league — back to the plate. Set in 1943, the story of women struggling in a traditionally male world proves a fertile field to cover today. (Credit: Prime Video) “We looked at these stories from the perspective of where we stand now,” says cocreator Abbi Jacobson, who stars as team catcher Carson Shaw. While dealing with issues of race and sexuality, Carson finds a connection with teammate Greta (D’Arcy Carden of Barry), “the catalyst for bringing out who Carson really is,” teases Jacobson. Also on the roster: affable Peaches coach Dove Porter (Nick Offerman). One familiar face from the original film — Rosie O’Donnell as new character Vi — blesses the production.
