The lack of Latino showrunners in Hollywood is being addressed by the Alliance of Latinx Executives and Rise Up who are partnering on an advocacy program that will pair 10 high-level executives with 10 high-level writers from the community to increase showrunner opportunities.
Of the 500+ shows in production during the 2021-22 television season, and the approximately 6K writers employed by those shows, less than 20 Latinx writers held the position of showrunner. It’s the second-most challenging roadblock for Latinx writers after breaking out of the entry-level staff writer position, according to the orgs.
The inaugural group of executives includes Joey Chavez (HBO Max), Tom Lerner (A+E Studios), Adam Martinez (CBS Studios), Alejandro Melendez (BBC Studios), Michelle Mendelovitz (Mattel Television Studios), Edy Mendoza (Netflix), Diana Mogollon (Independent) and Nina Tassler (Independent).
They will be partnered with the following writers: Davah Avena, Tawnya Benavides Bhattacharya & Ali Laventhol, Sal Calleros, Chad Gomez Creasey, Luisa Leschin,...

This is Day 109 of the WGA strike and Day 36 of the SAG-AFTRA strike.
The WGA and SAG-AFTRA teamed up for its first bicoastal picket in Los Angeles and New York on Friday, and Latino Hollywood showed up in droves.
At Warner Bros. in Los Angeles, more than 2,000 actors, writers and supporters hit the sidewalks as temperatures hit the high-80s. Salsa and Bachata music blasted through the speakers near Gates 2 and 3 as patient strike captains including Vida star Chelsea Rendon, kept everyone moving safely. One captain was overheard saying, “You have to keep moving, but you don’t have to stop dancing!” And so they did.

Editor’s note: One in a series of stories marking the 100th day of the WGA strike.
On day one of the Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike, scribes put their pencils down and hit the pavement at every major studio in Los Angeles. It was May 2 and many were wearing sweaters. Today, 100 days later, they remain as resolute as they began only a little more suntanned as the country faces one of its warmest summers to date.
Notwithstanding the climate, the writers have been challenged in ways they couldn’t have imagined and yet, they keep showing up on the lines. Deadline spoke to multiple regulars, captains and coordinators from various lots as well as WGA leadership.

Amid pivotal contract talks, Fran Drescher found time for couture over the weekend in Italy.
With days to go before the expiration of SAG-AFTRA’s current TV/theatrical contracts package, the union president was spotted in Italy attending Dolce & Gabbana’s Alta Moda festivities, a starry event held in Puglia, a Southern region known for ancient olive trees and referred to as the heel of Italy’s “boot.” There, Drescher joined Kim Kardashian, Helen Mirren, Kerry Washington, Angela Bassett, Christian Bale, Anitta, Kris Jenner and hundreds of other guests for a swirl that featured back-to-back glamorous events over five days, including a concert by Diana Ross.
Though it’s unclear how many events Drescher attended or how long she was in Italy, she did attend Sunday’s closing show, as confirmed by Kardashian to 362 million Instagram followers with a post that featured the two in a candid moment and...

Updated June 28: Max says the rollout of the updated credits will begin rolling out the week of June 28.
Previous: Max has responded to the controversy with the following statement: “We agree that the talent behind the content on Max deserve their work to be properly recognized. We will correct the credits, which were altered due to an oversight in the technical transition from HBO Max to Max and we apologize for this mistake.”
The decision to fix the credits comes as the writers and directors guild took a hard line against the Max grouping:
“For almost 90 years, the Directors Guild has fought fiercely to protect the credit and recognition deserved by Directors for the work they create. Warner Bros. Discovery’s unilateral move, without notice or consultation, to collapse directors, writers, producers and others into a generic category of ‘creators’ in their new Max rollout while we are in...

Latino WGA members and their allies descended upon Universal Studios en masse Monday beginning at 5 a.m. to picket on the seventh day of the Hollywood writers strike.
The early arrival for some came as picketers wanted to be visible to trucks attempting to enter through the studio’s gates. Several picket lines in Los Angeles and New York have turned trucks away since contract talks broke off May 1 between the writers and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers.
The WGA West’s Latinx Writers Committee organized today’s action, which at its height grew to about 300 picketers in Universal City, marching across Lankershim Boulevard from the main gates of the studio to Telemundo and back.

ID dropped a tabloid-esque trailer for “The Price of Glee,” a three-part docuseries focused on the scandals associated with the cast of “Glee.”
The musical comedy-drama, which ran on Fox for six seasons, became an instant cultural phenomenon when it premiered in 2009. Along with 30-plus albums, a reality competition show and a live concert tour, “Glee” launch the careers of its young cast members.

The tale of two “Glee”s is examined in an upcoming docuseries.
ID’s “The Price of Glee” contrasts the extreme fame experienced by the young cast of the hit Fox high school musical series with the scandals that plagued its stars. Cory Monteith died during the series of an overdose; co-star Mark Salling later killed himself after child pornography was discovered in his possession. In 2020, Naya Rivera was missing for days before being found dead from drowning while on a boating trip with her son.

Continuing on with featuring black web series…the last one, and still currently being feature, Issa Rae’s Awkward Black Girl series, has been well-received by you all, and is apparently doing very well across the web.
Here’s another… this one is called Rhyme Animal. I forget who sent this to me… but its synopsis reads: “an ambitious hip-hop DJ rides the coattails of an up-and-coming rapper. One problem: the rapper might also be a cannibalistic serial killer.”
How’s that for a plotline?
Its stars Al Thompson, Craig “muMs” Grant and Bridget Barkan; written by Jorge Rivera, Aaron F. Schnore, Billy Fox; and directed by Phil Roc.
