The HGTV team at Holmes Family Rescue has seen an increase in homeowners being abandoned by their contractors mid-job.
Several clients they help on their HGTV series are stuck with unearthed basements, hanging electrical wires, and a demolished home with no end in sight because the contractor has gone Mia.
“Ghosting is unfortunately common,” Mike Holmes Jr. told Showbiz Cheat Sheet. “And there’s a couple of factors for the ghosting. One, the contractors are so busy in the market these days. They don’t have to work with you anymore. They don’t have to put up with you. It’s rather sad that they don’t stand up for who they are and they abandon their work.”
“The other factor is because they’re so used to running from one job to the next, everyone wants to throw money at them. Again, they don’t care about you,...

The season 2 premiere episode of HGTV‘s Holmes Family Rescue proves that your contractor can actually kill you.
Contractor Mike Holmes and his team uncovered faulty wiring in the shower area. The family, who had avoided showering in the clutter, could have been electrocuted if they had used the shower. Mike said the botched job was one of the worst he’s seen in his career.

The appraisals are in, and the team of Brian and Mika Kleinschmidt have won HGTV’s “Rock the Block” Season 2!
Yes, you read that right. The Kleinschmidts, who did not win a single individual challenge, took the whole damn thing. Their craftsman-style fun and functional home, appraised for $625,000.
Perhaps it was the basement bowling alley. (You also read that right.)
Ok, it definitely wasn’t the mini lanes — at least not from an appraisal standpoint. The Kleinschmidts definitely had the best backyard space, and their double dishwashers, dream laundry room and converted third-car garage might have sealed the deal.
Here’s the logline for the episode you just missed (a safe assumption if you’re here to find out the winner): “After six weeks, a winner gets crowned, a street sign gets named and bragging rights get claimed on the finale of ‘Rock the Block!’ Experts appraise the houses...

Airing two hours of the imported CTV (Canada) show, Fox finished fifth on broadcast in total viewers — behind Univision. Dan Harrison never wanted “Holmes Family Effect” for Fox, but here we are.
When the coronavirus pandemic halted all television production in the United States, the Fox Entertainment EVP of program planning and content strategy had to get creative — and get on the phone with suppliers. First, Harrison acquired “L.A.’s Finest” from Spectrum.
Then he went international.
Ok, so Canada, where the Holmes Family operates both its building and television business, isn’t that far. It’s also proven to be a pretty good place to import shows from. “Schitt’s Creek” found enormous success coming down from Canada, and NBC has plugged some scheduling holes with medical dramas “Transplant” and “Nurses.”
It just makes sense. For starters, setting aside French for a second, we share a language. And these days, it feels like half of our American productions are actually shot in Vancouver anyway.

Home Reno Star Mike Holmes Seals Bell Media Partnership With Super Bowl ‘Holmes Family Effect’ Debut
Mike Holmes is making it right on his biggest scale yet.
The Canadian contractor and TV personality, whose personal motto promises to “make it right,” is preparing to unveil his latest renovation series, “Holmes Family Effect,” on Feb. 7 in the coveted post-Super Bowl timeslot. Parent company Bell Media has been plotting Holmes’ splashy debut since 2019, when it announced the new partnership at its June upfront presentation. Exclusive: Fox has acquired CTV’s Holmes Family Effect, an unscripted series starring home renovation contractor and TV personality Mike Holmes, from Bell Media for a midseason 2020-21 premiere. The four-part series, which has completed production, is slated to premiere in Canada on CTV in early 2021.
American broadcasters have relied on Canadian content during the pandemic. NBC’s and the CW’s fall lineups featured Canadian dramas Transplant and Coroner, respectively. With the current wave of infections sweeping the U.S. and impacting production, the networks again are reaching north for backup programming. NBC recently picked up drama Nurses.
On the unscripted side, HGTV had a success this past summer with Canadian import Renovation Island, leading to the network picking up Renovation, Inc., another series featuring contractor Bryan Baeumler and his wife, Sarah.
The deal for Holmes Family Effect marks a return to Fox for Holmes, who co-hosted the network’s 2015 reality-competition series Home Free.

In the series, top home reno experts Mina Starsiak Hawk (Good Bones), Alison Victoria (Windy City Rehab), Leanne Ford (Restored by the Fords) and Jasmine Roth (Hidden Potential) go head-to-head in a showdown to max-out four identical properties and add the most property value to each home. It can take a long time to build a house but, these days, the networks don't give their shows very long to build an audience. The ratings for Home Free were pretty low last year. Will they rise in season two or fall even lower? Will this Fox series be cancelled or renewed for a third season? Stay tuned.
On the Home Free TV show, couples compete in construction challenges. Each team is working to win the ultimate dream home for their hero in a beautiful new neighborhood. However, they don't know that they're competing for third own grand prize. Contractor Mike Holmes and football quarterback Tim Tebow are the hosts in season two.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show's likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This...

Fox has introduced several new reality shows this summer but they've all performed quite poorly in the ratings. Will Home Free be a different story? Will the series be renewed for a second season or, will it be cancelled instead? Stay tuned.
On the Home Free TV show, nine deserving couples work to fix up a dilapidated house and must live there while it's being fixed up. Their work is judged and one couple is eliminated each week while the others move forward in the competition. The winning couple of the season will be awarded their dream home. Professional contractor Mike Holmes is the host.

Mike Holmes, the expert licensed contractor who created and hosted reality series including Holmes on Homes and Holmes Inspection, wants a deserving family to win their dream home. Adventure Time the cartoon is a work of inspired foolishness set within a post-apocalyptic dystopian society. Adventure Time the comic book may have the same setting but it’s foolishness is anything but inspired. Forced would be a more accurate term.
The first story in Adventure Time #28 is a bland Ghostbusters ripoff featuring a group called the Ghost Destroyers. The Ghost Destroyers are summoned by Princess Bubblegum to catch Finn and Jake after they become ghosts. When Flash isn't out saving the world with his superpower of being fast, he's taken a part time gig DJing clubs and parties. I can imagine that this is something The Flash would be really good at. No offense to anyone who likes The Flash, but I think he has a pretty lame superpower. The Flash makes Aquaman look cool, expect when he's a DJ.
The art comes from a site called DJ Barry Allen, but there are different versions of the Flash represented as well. The illustration above was created by Matthew Allison. Check out the rest below!

If you were to consider all of the possible hobbies for Conrad Grayson, woodworking would probably not be among them. And yet that's just the thing that grounds Henry Czerny, the devilishly handsome Toronto native who portrays the powerful Hamptons patriarch on "Revenge," which airs its two-hour season finale Sunday, May 12, on ABC.
When Zap2it caught up with the star on the last day of principal shooting for Season 2, he was busy putting together a slide show for the cast's wrap party.
"I've got about a thousand that I had taken on set, and I'm trying to organize them into a three-minute video," says Czerny. "So good luck to me."
But once filming is finished and the 54-year-old actor has come back to Toronto to visit his 85-year-old mother, he'll head back to Southern California and start on some woodworking he's doing with a friend.

Ah, the holidays. Time for the sharing of cheer, the giving of thanks, and - for millions of families like mine - the marathon viewing of Hgtv.
Let's face it: being cooped up for days on end with the same group of people isn't good for anyone, and before too long with too little to do even the most harmonious of families start to resemble the Big Brother house. That's why Hgtv is the perfect holiday guest: it's less divisive than CNN, less maudlin than Christmas specials, and it's not football.
But before we settle into a 12-episode run of Property Virgins, let's admit that sometimes Hgtv, for all its pluck and know-how, makes us want to kick a hole through some newly-hung drywall.
Why We Watch It

Shaw Media is trying to get back in the game after its so-so year, and with several new buzzworthy dramas debuting on Global TV this fall, the network has announced loudly that it is ready to play. Hard.
Global is hoping "Last Resort," the latest offering from executive producer Shawn Ryan ("The Shield"), will perform better than "The Chicago Code" did -- and hopefully Canadian Scott Speedman ("Felicity") will help. But considering how awesome "Tcc" was, yet it was still cancelled, I'm a little worried for the fate of "Last Resort."
Speaking of awesome and "The Shield," Michael Chiklis, along with Dennis Quaid, headline "Vegas," which takes place in the 1960s. The other must-see is "Elementary," a modern take on the adventures of Sherlock Holmes and Watson -- this time played by Jonny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu, respectively -- as they try and solve the NYPD's toughest cases.

It's been months since Food Network Canada announced it was serving up another helping of "Top Chef Canada," but there were a couple of ingredients missing: its season 1 host, Thea Andrews, and its exact return date.
Like any good dish, the reality competition's sophomore season is coming together nicely, what with new host Lisa Raye filling in Andrews' shoes (who is expecting her second child) and Food Network Canada finally revealing when the hit show is returning to its lineup.
The new season premieres March 12 at 10 p.m. Et/Pt and, according to a network release, it will boast bigger, more intense challenges and surprise twists that the 16 new chefs will have to tackle.

To celebrate the end of Don't Ask, Don't Tell, Zach Braff and Donald Faison revisited their epic bromance on Scrubs. This actually went on for several tweets, but this one from Zach captured the essence.
Speaking of hot celebrities who aren't gay but seem open to the idea, this came from hunky slab of man Eddie McClintock. Eddie - call me, I'm available for lessons.
And in case you're wondering what Eddie's type is, he likes them beefy, just like himself.
I can see the attraction.
Since we're talking about unexpected propositions, Gavin Creel had one while out and about. But he never says if he took the guy up on it.
