Lasse Elkjaer is a Los Angeles based composer, producer, orchestrator and guitarist originally from Denmark who was recently awarded for his gothic score for the horror movie, Sticks.
Sticks is a gothic scare ride where Elkjaer worked with Hollywood cellist Tina Guo, whose cello can be heard frequently on scores by Hans Zimmer, such as Dunkirk and Inception and latest Rupert Gregson-Williams's score for Wonder Woman. "Sticks has an extremely exciting soundtrack, where both sound and music carry the horror to the point of excellence." Filmkraft 2018 (DK)
As an accomplished composer working on features, TV and commercials, Elkjaer is also a longtime collaborator of Golden Globe-nominated composer Christopher Young (Spiderman 3, Swordfish, Hellraiser), and five-time Emmy winning composer Jacob Groth (The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo).
Elkjaer started his professional career in Denmark as an award-winning composer, while working as an arranger and guitarist for theatre productions, and also playing in several rock bands. Before Elkjaer ventured into the world of film music, he was a national competition gymnast, completed his military service as a guard in the Royal Navy, and was the driving force behind arranging several music festivals.
Upon completion of his Masters in Film Scoring from the Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts, South Danish Conservatory of Music, Elkjaer moved to Los Angeles to study with Bruce Broughton (Tombstone), Christopher Young (Hellraiser), and Garry Schyman (Bioshock) amongst many other prolific scoring legends at the Scoring For Motion Pictures And Television Program at University of Southern California (USC). During his stay at USC, Elkjaer was mentored by Michael Gorfaine, partner and co-owner of the Gorfaine/Schwartz Agency.
In 2018 Elkjaer was commissioned to score a commercial for the City of Odense in Denmark, the birth place of the famous Danish author Hans Christian Andersen, best known for his fairy tales like The Little Mermaid and The Ugly Duckling. Elkjaer recorded the score with a 40 pieces string section with the Budapest Art Orchestra.
The films Elkjaer scored won awards at the Honolulu Film Festival, First Run Film Festival in New York, Tech Doc Film Festival in Seattle, and Filmkraft in Denmark. In addition, several of Elkjaer's shorts won first place on Ekko shortlist, a top ten list that represent the best short movies in Denmark. Elkjaer's work has also been selected for Comic-Con International Independent Film Festival in San Diego.
Elkjaer is a Fulbright recipient, and received more than 10 scholarships by the Danish government while doing his film scoring studies at USC. Similarly, Elkjaer was granted Danish funds when he was selected as a participant for the 2018 Los Angeles Film Conducting Intensive. The Los Angeles Film Conducting Intensive is the brain child between conductors David Newman and Angel Velez, designed to create and opportunity for media composers to further their skills as conductors.
Now located in the United States, and with over 60 movie productions under his belt, Elkjaer continues his work as a composer and orchestrator in Los Angeles. Since moving to LA in 2013, Elkjaer has been involved in movies such as Dead Man Down starring Colin Farrell, Bad Santa 2, the Chinese epic block buster action adventure feature Monkey King 2, Netflix TV series Lost In Space, NBC TV series Midnight Texas and he has also orchestrated for several concerts, such as the charity concert Nordic Noir at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles, and recently had his concert music performed by the Los Angeles-based ensemble, Helix Collective at the Barnsdall Theatre Gallery in Hollywood.
