Are you ready to watch comedian Nicole Byer and chef Jacques Torres politely eat some of the most hideous baked creations the world has ever seen? Yes? You're in luck - season three of Netflix's hilarious baking competition, Nailed It!, is returning for season three on May 17!
On every episode of the endearing series, we get to watch three amateur contestants compete to re-create complicated, gorgeous, and whimsical cakes or treats that are beyond Instagram-worthy. Few of the bakers ever get even remotely close, but as long as they're the best of the worst, they can earn either a fancy prize or the ultimate pot of $10,000.
Between Byer's nonstop one-liners and Torres's barely-controlled laughter upon seeing some of the wild creations that some of the contestants serve up - we're still not over that princess tower cake, to be quite honest - it's an incredibly fun ride. Below,...

The signature moment in each episode of Netflix’s Emmy-nominated “Chef’s Table” is no more than a succession of plates. Composer Duncan Thum’s melodramatic strings herald abstractions of texture and color, labeled as if on view at the Met: A rough pile of gray shards and purple flowers spattered with orange liquid (Grant Achatz’s “Graffiti, Carrot Spray Paint, Wild Mushrooms”); a wood husk filled with delicacies in the guise of dirt, twigs, and moss (Dominique Crenn’s “A Walk in the Forest”). Each montage is an expression of the belief that haute cuisine is high art, one shared by the series’ renowned subjects. “There [are] other disciplines that we can draw on for inspiration,” Achatz remarks. “There are no rules. Do whatever you want.”
For a series defined by cuisine that defies convention, however—gold-leafed ants and pillows of nutmeg air, flights of fancy and sleights of hand...

Ever want to set sail with some of the best chef-testants from Bravo's "Top Chef"? We can't say the idea has ever occurred to us, but it sounds like fun.
"Top Chef: The Cruise" is scheduled for April 11-15 and they've just added a quartet of major names to the guest list: "Top Chef All Stars" winner Richard Blais, "Top Chef Just Desserts" season one winner Yigit Pura, "Top Chef: Texas" winner Paul Qui, and "Fan Favorite" winner Fabio Viviani. They'll join "Top Chef" hosts Tom Colicchio and Gail Simmons, along with 11 more alums.
Among the highlights scheduled for the cruise: behind-the-scenes kitchen tours, the opportunity to participate in live Quickfire challenges, a Q&A session with the chef-lebrities and (what sounds like the standout to us) an evening dance party hosted by DJ and Top Chef Master Hubert Keller. Additional names include Jennifer Carroll and Spike Mendelsohn, who...

In one of the most logical TV tie-ins ever, "Top Chef" is setting sail! Bravo has announced an official "Top Chef" cruise featuring judges Tom Colicchio and Gail Simmons and former cheftestants like Spike Mendelsohn, Angelo Sosa and Jennifer Carroll, who will travel from Miami to Mexico in April 2013.
Photos: "Top Chef Texas"
We all know the best (and worst) part of a cruise is the non-stop gourmet food, so to take such awesome chefs on board for cooking demos, Quickfire challenges, "Top Chef" menus and more "Tc"-related events, according to topchefthecruise.com, makes total sense.
You can buy tickets starting Aug. 16 ranging in price from $699 to $5,999 (that's what a penthouse suite with veranda will set you back). So far, Mendelsohn, Sosa, Carroll, Hubert Keller, Tim Love, Tiffany Derry, Chris Hanmer, Michael Isabella, Hosea Rosenberg and Casey Thopmpson have all signed on, but the cruise's website promises many more to come.

It’s the Top Chef Season 9 Finale Part 2, entitled “Fire And Ice,” a devious move by Bravo to trick people into thinking Game Of Thrones is back on their viewing guide and accidentally recording it. Obviously, there can only be one guest judge for the “Fire And Ice” challenge: Just kidding! Prince Joffrey declined because he thought Sarah was acting too much like a spoiled child. The actual guest judge is this old flame: I love that they’re still chyron-ing Emeril really specifically, like we don’t know who he is at this point in the season/life. “I don’t know, I guess he wrote some book about pans? Doesn’t sound very qualified.” The episode opens with a pallin’ around driving segment where Paul explains that the three chefs are friends in real life but “you can’t think like that in the competition.” Really? You can’t be like,...

This week, some of our sweet contestants on Top Chef: Just Desserts turned sour. Maybe it was because of their quickfire challenge. They had to pull a lemon dessert out of their ass in 45 minutes.
With the high priestess of cake making, Margaret Braun as the guest judge, the cheftestants frantically made some citrus-y desserts and upon judging Margaret called out Orlando as one of her least favorites saying that she personally does not like mixing lemon with chocolate. His "sour" reaction was, and I quote, "Personally, you may not like it, but you're not judging on a personal level you're judging on a professional level so leave personal sh*t at the door."
Finally. The gloves come off and the diva comes out. I have a feeling there's more where this came from.

Did you catch the promos for the second season of Top Chef: Just Desserts? They showed that judge Johnny Iuzzini has traded his severe bad boy pompadoured, tattooed pastry chef look for a more dapper, tailored appearance.
Unfortunately, that is one of the few things that made the second season premiere of this series semi-exciting. Even worse, we lost a member of Team Gay in the very first episode.
Team Gay at the start of the episode...
As the little brother to the more engaging Top Chef, Tc:jd uses the same formula but gives it a sweet tooth with a gaggle of pastry chefs competing to win a bunch of money, a car, short-lived reality show stardom, and other stuff.
In addition to Johnny, the usual judges, Gail Simmons, chef Hubert Keller and Daily Candy's Dannielle Kyrillos are on hand to build and demolish self-esteems — the latter being a great schadenfreude treat.

It was one of a the closest contests ever in 'Top Chef' history, as Wednesday's finale came down to two remarkable, four-course dinners composed by the remaining two 'Top Chef All-Stars' cheftestants.
It was like a prize fight, with both heavyweight chefs Richard Blais and Michael Isabella slugging it out course by course, dish by dish, morsel by morsel.
The judges, including guest chefs like Hubert Keller and Art Smith, were duly impressed by the food presented by these two finalists. Head judge Tom Colicchio declared that it had been the best cooking he'd ever eaten in a 'Top Chef' finale.
Ultimately, the choice of one over the other was a case of splitting hairs, with Blais emerging victorious. Read on for interviews with both Blais and Isabella.

It’s the Top Chef All-Stars Finale! The real one, not Part 1 of 4 where they have to cook for a king who turns out to be not a king and how is that a twist because the stakes are infinitely lower (so many chefmories)! It’s down to Richard Blais and Mike Isabella, and their Final Challenge is to “Provide a glimpse into your future as a great chef.” Richard says he dreams of someday having a restaurant where “you come in and I cook you my style of food” (it’s also a restaurant where he’s in it to win it and not there to make friends), while Mike Isabella shows the judges a crystal ball of his future self as a fat fish with a long white beard. All the All-Stars and Jamie are back, and they’re all wearing their Wackee Finalee Glasses: Everyone got their Cheffin’ glasses on?...

Gail Simmons hosted the Food and Wine All-Star Weekend Nov. 5 through 7 in Las Vegas. The event was put on by Food and Wine magazine, the Bellagio and MGM Grand Resorts.
The weekend was filled with several fun events that, of course, involved food and wine. The weekend's kick-off on Friday, Nov. 5 started with a red carpet at the Vdara hotel where Simmons and "Top Chef" alumni, including Carla Hall, Hosea Rosenberg, Fabio Viviani, Jennifer Carroll and Stephen Hopcraft, and several top chefs in Vegas, including Rick Moonen, Julian Serrano, Hubert Keller and Shawn McClain. After posing for pictures, Simmons went inside Bar Vdara to host the kick-off party with passed appetizers, a carving station that served lamb sandwiched in Naan, and cocktails. An after-party at Deuces Lounge in the Aria hotel, also within City Center, followed.

Our heads are on the verge of exploding as we program our DVRs for the upcoming fall TV season, which officially kicks off this week.
On Tuesday, the sophomore series Parenthood returns. The NBC show stars (newly dating) Peter Krause and Lauren Graham who play on-screen brother and sister. Also in the TV family are castmates Dax Shepard and Craig T. Nelson.
But the surprise of last season was that with all these major TV heavy-hitters, our favorite actor of the bunch was 13-year-old newcomer, Max Burkholder, who so convincingly plays a child with Asperger's Syndrome, that in many episodes he brought us to tears. We can't wait to see more.
Plus Billy Baldwin joins the cast as Peter Krause's boss. You can't go wrong with a Baldwin brother.
But this week we're most excited about the return of some of the best reality TV.

Let us start by admitting that we’re still disappointed that French culinary genius Hubert Keller was not a contestant this season on Top Chef Masters. Add to that how bummed we were that local culinary queen and founding Food Network maven Susan Feniger (aka one of the Two Hot Tamales) got the boot a couple of weeks ago, and we’re a little torn about the way this season is shaking out.
Needless to say, we’re having a hard time deciding who we want to take home the title of Top Chef Master. From what we can tell, Susur Lee is one of those once in a lifetime creative visionaries, but his particular brand of cooking doesn’t really whet our appetites. Marcus Samuelsson seems like a nice enough guy and a talented chef, but he doesn’t seem to overwhelm the judges with innovative cooking. Then there’s Rick Moonen,...

'Top Chef Masters' franchise to return to Bravo in 2010. The show that features culinary expert James Oseland, food critic Jay Rayner, restaurant critic Gael Greene and Gail Simmons of Food & Wine magazine as judges is back for a sophomore season. Food journalist Kelly Choi is set to return as host. "Top Chef Masters" ended season one averaging 2.2 million viewers and 1.5 million viewers in the 18-49 demo. New season will debut in 2010. Chicago's Rick "King of Mexican cuisine" Bayless was crowned the show's inaugural winner after defeating a lineup of top competitors including finalists Hubert Keller and Michael Chiarello.

(S06E04) If the names Joël Robuchon, Daniel Boulud, Hubert Keller, Laurent Tourondel and Jean Joho don't strike fear in your heart, you are probably not a Top Chef contestant. Even Tom Colicchio seemed über-impressed by these French chefs. This season the producers have really turned up the heat on Top Chef, pushing the chefs to truly earn the title of Top Chef as never before. This challenge -- cooking for the aforementioned master chefs -- was the most difficult in the series yet.Continue reading Top Chef: Vivre Las Vegas

Classical French culinary training is painstakingly rigorous, but surely all of the chefs among the pack of remaining contestants on Top Chef should have been able to pull off this week's challenge without a hitch, right? Not quite. I've already raved about this week's episode of Top Chef: Las Vegas (you can read my advance review here), which featured a veritable who's who among French chefs, including chef of the century Joel Robuchon, Daniel Boulud, Hubert Keller, Laurent Tourondel, and Jean Joho. Not exactly small fry. This week's episode ("Vivre Las Vegas") challenged the cheftestants to work in the classical French style, using traditional ingredients such as escargot, rabbit, and frog legs and deliver dishes to the awe-inspiring master chefs assembled to sample their work. In other words: it was make it or break it time for these chefs. So how did the contestants perform this week? Let's discuss.

On Top Chef tonight, Jesse just showed us that there is such a thing as overdoing the underdog card. Sure, you can be a little unsure of yourself and therefore need a little push here and there, but seriously, Jesse! Cut yourself some slack. As you said, you don't suck this bad, and a little confidence would'vet taken you two, three episodes farther. Also, to your credit, your little tuna tartare with sorrel, gooseberries, fried quail egg and fried bread wasn't so bad.
Moving forward, it was all French cuisine on tonight's episode of Top Chef, and the guests include Hubert Keller, Jean Joho, Laurent Tourondel, Joel Robuchon - I have never heard of these people with the exception of Keller.

Are you obsessed with Top Chef? Do you know your salpicon from your brunoise? Not freaked out by preparing velouté or escargot? You're in luck. This season's chefs are as always a motley bunch but there have emerged several major contenders for the title of Top Chef this season and, despite it being only the fourth episode of the season, we're seeing some major culinary skills at play in the Top Chef kitchen in a fashion that's usually reserved for the final rounds. I had the chance last week to watch tonight's outstanding episode of Top Chef: Las Vegas ("Vivre Las Vegas") and I have to say that not only is the best episode of the season so far but it will go down as one of my favorite episodes of the entire series to date. Not only are many of the chefs working at the top of their game,...

Here's the synopsis for tonight's episode of Top Chef: Las Vegas from Bravo:
The contestants must tap into their traditional cooking skills when they're asked to show their mastery of French cuisine, and as if that's not stress enough tonight's judges are some of the biggest names in the industry: Daniel Boulud, Hubert Keller, Joel Robuchon and Jean Joho.
I don't know what's to be more excited about - how Jennifer will probably kick ass in doing French cuisine or how the aftermath of Michael's almost elimination will look.

Our lives can best be described as the sum of all of our experiences leading up to this specific point in time. The same was true for the three master chefs--Hubert Keller, Rick Bayless, and Michael Chiarello--facing down the gauntlet on last night's season finale of Top Chef Masters ("Top Chef Master"), in which the trio squared off against one another in a perfectly fitting final challenge. This series is after all called Top Chef Masters, so I wanted to see what these incomparable master chefs could do when the gloves were off and there were no vending machines, microwaves, or mise-en-place relays to get through. In other words, I wanted to see what they could do with larger budgets, limitless imagination, and unfettered ambition to draw upon. Their challenge: to prepare a four-course meal that best represented their entire careers thus far (and into the future), with...

Top Chef Masters ended its first season perfectly last night, with the three remaining chefs--Rick Bayless, Michael Chiarello, and Hubert Keller--creating four-course meals based upon their lives as chefs. Rick Bayless, who owns Topolobampo, a restaurant in Chicago "that's a favorite of the Obamas," won the $100,000 prize for his charity, the Frontera Farmer Foundation. They were judged by the three critics, plus Top Chef's real judges (Padma, Tom, and Gail), and the five winners... keep reading » » read the full story and comment, or find the latest news about Top Chef 6

The competition among culinary pros on "Top Chef Masters" has come to an end with the announcement of a winner. Chicago native Rick Bayless beats Hubert Keller and Michael Chiarello by a few stars in the cooking competition's first season. Rick consequently receives the $100,000 cash prize which he donates to his charity Frontera Farmer Foundation.
In the finale airing Wednesday, August 19, the three finalists must pass four stages of challenges that trace back their past. They must cook their first food memory, dish that made them want to become a cook, first restaurant and what's next. Rick, whose expertise is in Mexican cuisine, brought in hickory-smoked quail, Oaxacan black mole, roast suckling pig cake, and a black rice soup called arroz a la tumbada respectively.
The judging panel consisted of the regular critics in addition of Padma Lakshmi, Tom Colicchio and Gail Simmons of "Top Chef". Joining them to chip...

I was initially a bit resistant to "Top Chef Masters," but it has become an acceptable placeholder for Bravo in recent weeks. Host Kelly Choi hasn't made me stop missing Padma & Tom, while for a food critic, Judge James Oseland seems mighty confused by a lot of culinary exploration. It took a little while to realize that, Ludo Lefebvre aside, "Top Chef Masters" wasn't about gawking at spectacular flameouts, but was actually a celebration of the confident genius of titans like Rick Bayless and Hubert Keller. But enough with the placebos! "Top Chef" returns on Wednesday (July 19) night, with...

Wolfgang Puck and Daniel Boulud are among the world-renowned chefs with restaurants in Las Vegas. Now, the sin city is home to the sixth season of Bravo's "Top Chef" where Puck and Boulud will be among the guest star judges.
"Top Chef: Las Vegas" will bring back all the ingredients that made the show an Emmy Award-winning hit, including host Padma Lakshmi. But seeing as its Vegas, the stakes are even higher. The sixth season also features the first pair of siblings competing against each other.
The show, which will find itself shooting all over the strip but produced primarily at the M Resort Spa & Casino, the season will also feature guest appearances from actress Natalie Portman and magicians Penn & Teller, as well as top chefs Todd English, Michelle Bernstein, Hubert Keller, and more.

Just out of curiosity, how many of you tuned in last night for the series premiere of Bravo's Top Chef Masters ("Masters Get Schooled"), the spin-off series for its venerable Top Chef series? You read my advance review of the series premiere yesterday, but I'd love to know what you thought of the episode itself and the new format of the series, in which four chefs will compete head-to-head over six weeks to determine who will move on to the final rounds. Last night's episode featured Hubert Keller, Christopher Lee, Michael Schlow, and Tim Love as they were tasked first with creating a dessert plate for a group of Girl Scouts in under thirty minutes and then had to create a three-course meal for some college students using only a microwave, hot-plate, and mini-convection oven in an actual dorm room. So how did they do? Let's discuss. I thought that...

All right, I desperately needed a break this week from family dramas and celebrity jungles. Last night was the perfect opportunity, as “Top Chef Masters” premiered, and “So You Think You Can Dance” began its performance shows.
"Top Chef Masters"
Unlike the regular "Top Chef" series, this pits real top chefs from around the country against each other. Chefs included: Michael Schlow of Boston, former “Top Chef” judge Hubert Keller of San Francisco, Christopher Lee of New York and cowboy...

A guest star will make a contribution on the fifth season of Bravo's cooking competition show, "Top Chef". It has been informed by Ew's Hollywood Insider that Grammy Award-winning rock band, Foo Fighters, will make an appearance as guest judge on the cooking show.
Giving additional information, Ew states that the Foo Fighters' guest-starring episode will be titled "Foo Fighters' Thanksgiving" and has been arranged to air on November 26. The episode will be taking place in restaurateur Grant Achatz, at a tour stop in Rochester, New York.
In the meantime, "Top Chef" is coming to its fifth season on November 12. Besides Foo Fighters, there were about 48 guest judges who had appeared on the show so far. Some of them were Anthony Bourdain, Rocco Dispirito, Eric Ripert, Hubert Keller, and Michelle Bernstein.
