The millennial women-led series is dead. Long live the millennials.
It wasn’t exactly surprising when Freeform’s beloved critically acclaimed “Single Drunk Female” was canceled this month after just two seasons and immediately pulled from Hulu. Sure, Freeform touted the sitcom as the highest-rated original comedy during the New York City Season 2 premiere before the series returned with all new episodes on Hulu in April. But its cancellation is just one of the many reminders that networks don’t invest long-term in women-fronted shows that focus on “messy” millennial women.
While we pour one out for “Single Drunk Female,” it’s best to trace the series back to its roots with Lena Dunham and executive producer Jenni Konner’s explosively disruptive HBO series “Girls,” which celebrated its 10-year anniversary in 2022. After that massive hit, why has TV abandoned the generation of people who grew up watching “Girls”?

Glamorous has quite a bit of ground to cover in its first season finale, from Venetia’s dramatic return as Madolyn’s new creative executive to Marco’s eye-opening encounter with Parker… and Parker’s not-twin boyfriend (played by the very same actor).
But the moment — and we do mean moment — from Episode 10 that’s bound to hit viewers the hardest has nothing to do with Marco’s career. Or his love life, for that matter.

Every generation gets the aspirational workplace it deserves. In 2006, “The Devil Wears Prada” helped establish the archetype of an imperious, intimidating woman who rules her chic urban office with an iron fist; with its obvious Anna Wintour analog, the book-turned-film also doubled as a bookend to the era of the print magazine editor’s omnipotence. Eight years later, Sophia Amoruso coined the term “Girlboss,” a cutesy moniker that soon got a Netflix adaptation to match. Latter-day examples have updated the template to keep pace with the times: “Younger” took place in the wake of the Great Recession, when securing a dream job requires some deceit, while “The Bold Type” was proudly progressive — think 2010s Cosmo, not mid-aughts Vogue. In these stories, actual employment is less secure, but the employer acts less like a dictator than a stern, if nurturing, mentor.

Glamorous is a Netflix series produced by CBS and created by Jordon Nardino. Starring Kim Cattrall (Sex and the City) and featuring breakthrough actor Miss Benny in a hilarious role, the series draws inspiration from The Devil Wears Prada, but with a more benevolent character. Although the show meets expectations, they are not particularly high.
The plot follows Marco, an aspiring influencer who lands a dream job with a makeup mogul. He embarks on a dazzling journey of self-discovery amidst the chaos of his work and romantic challenges.
While the show is an entertaining, glamorous comedy, it is more intriguing for its concept than its execution. As the series progresses, the comedy overshadows the plot, leaving it somewhat superficial. The acting is more convincing than the characters themselves, and the actors’ performances are more impactful than their dialogue. The series is too focused on being “glamorous” and not enough on delivering a compelling story.

Netflix has released the trailer for upcoming series Glamorous, out June 22, which sees Kim Cattrall take on the role of Madelyn Addison, a “supermodel of the world”-turned makeup business mogul who hires a young queer person obsessed with makeup. Think The Devil Wears Prada but makeup instead of fashion.
The trailer follows the life of Marco Mejía — a gender non-conforming queer person played by Miss Benny — after he meets Addison at his department store makeup job. (Think Macy’s.)

‘Glamorous’ Trailer: Kim Cattrall Gets Her ‘Devil Wears Prada’ Moment in Netflix Queer Comedy Series
Netflix’s upcoming series “Glamorous” is like “The Devil Wears Prada” if Meryl Streep were replaced by “Sex and the City’s” Kim Cattrall and instead of Anne Hathaway, she hired drag queens and non-binary actor Miss Benny to work for her. The 10-episode LGBTQ comedy series premieres June 22 on the streamer.
“Glamorous” follows baby-faced new hire Marco Mejia (Miss Benny), a young, queer man who lands a job for the legendary CEO Madolyn Addison (Cattrall). Madolyn’s makeup line, Glamorous Cosmetics, is plummeting. Suspecting her business is being sabotaged by someone on the inside, she hires Marco to sleuth around.
“She wants him to be her eyes and ears, to make friends — and find out what’s going on behind her back, to discover what they’re hiding and what they’re stealing. In exchange, she’ll teach Marco everything she knows – but she warns him, ‘This business isn’t all glitter and glamour,...

After first sparking rumors that she may be joining Darren Star on his latest series, “Emily in Paris“, when they appeared together at the season 3 premiere, Kim Cattrall responded to Et about possibly reuniting with the “Sex and the City” creator.
“We’ll see,” she told Et’s Rachel Smith while promoting her new film, “About My Father”, which opens in theaters on Friday, May 26. “We’ll see what happens.”
While it’s certainly possible that the 66-year-old star could appear in the upcoming fourth season of the hit Netflix series starring Lily Collins as an American ingénue who moves to Paris and joins a French marketing firm, she reminded Et that she has a new series of her own coming out on the streaming platform.
“I don’t really know [but] I have another show coming out called ‘Glamorous’,” Cattrall said. “[It’s] sort of like a ‘Devil Wears Prada.'”

The first look of David E. Kelley’s investigative drama series “The Calling” were released Monday by Peacock, offering a glimpse into the show ahead of its Nov. 10 debut on the streamer.
Adapted from a series of novels by author Dror Mishani, the show’s plot follows a New York Police Department detective named Avraham Avraham (Jeff Wilbush), who typically relies on spirituality to guide his pursuit of truth until one investigation makes him rethink his beliefs.
The series stars Wilbush, Juliana Canfield, Karen Robinson and Michael Mosley.
One image highlights a particularly tense, yet slightly absurd moment where Wilbush is locked hands with a man wearing a hotdog suit in what looks like the context of an interrogation.
Behind the production is showrunner, writer and executive producer Kelley, whose lengthy career includes series such as “Picket Fences,” “The Practice,” “Ally McBeal” and “Big Little Lies.” Barry Levinson will also...

Earlier this week, a press release was blasted to Hollywood publications with the salacious headline: “Breaking News: TV Producer Aaron Kaplan Sued For Invasion Of Privacy.”
In the post-#MeToo era, it was designed to grab journalists’ attention as the subject is one of the top TV producers in town. The lawsuit was in response to a Petition for Instruction filed by Aaron Kaplan in February, that lays out alleged attempts by Elizabeth M. Kaplan, widow of Kaplan’s late older brother, successful entrepreneur Joe Kaplan, to remove Aaron Kaplan as executor of his brother’s will and trustee of the trust, which includes Elizabeth Kaplan, her son with Joe, and Joe’s two adult children from a previous marriage.

Now, Deadline is reporting that a new take would move the action to high school, focusing on a private Christian academy in Dallas.

The CW is working on a new take on “Good Christian Bitches,” seven years after ABC’s short-lived adaption titled “Gcb.” A new drama series based on Kim Gatlin’s 2008 book is in the works at the network — and it’s set in a high school, an individual with knowledge of the project tells TheWrap.
Jordon Nardino — creator of The CW’s “Glamorous” pilot, which was not ordered to series — will write and executive produce the show, which is a retooling of the “Good Christian Bitches” reboot that was in development at The CW last season, that one from writer Leila Cohan-Miccio. Darren Star and Aaron Kaplan, who produced the ABC series, are also back on board to executive produce.

Exclusive: The CW in May opted not to pick up pilot The Lost Boys to series but authorized a retooling, including recastings. As part of that, producing studio Warner Bros. TV has released the entire cast of the pilot with the exception of Medalion Rahimi and Dakota Shapiro whose options have been extended. The duo will co-star in the new, reworked pilot, which will likely film by the end of the year.
Meanwhile, pilot Glamorous starring Ben J. Pierce, which was not picked up in early May with the rest of the CW new series but was left in serious contention for a series order, is now dead.
Launching a series adaptation of the iconic 1987 Warner Bros horror comedy movie The Lost Boys had been high in the priority list for the CW brass. The network first tapped Rob Thomas to conceive and write a Lost Boys series during the 2016-17 development season.

Three of the four CW pilots that stood out this pilot season, Batwoman, Katy Keene, Nancy Drew and Glamorous, were picked up to series last week. The fourth, Glamorous, the only original concept and only comedy in the bunch, remains in contention.
“We are still looking at Glamorous,” the CW President Mark Pedowitz said during the network’s upfront call Thursday morning. “It is very, very funny. We will take a harder look at it when we go back to Los Angeles.”
Glamorous, which hails from Damon Wayans Jr. and his Two Shakes Entertainment, writer Jordon Nardino and CBS TV Studios, centers on a gender-nonconforming recent high school graduate (Ben J. Pierce) who lands the gig of a lifetime interning at a cosmetics company whose products he panned on YouTube.
“We believe Ben J. Pierce is a star,” Pedowitz said. “It needs some retooling so we can try to move forward with it.

The project is the first pilot Wayans will produce under his first-look deal with CBS TV Studios. Wayans, frequently one of the most in-demand stars during pilot season, secured the deal when he signed on to star in the CBS multi-cam comedy “Happy Together.” The show launched during the fall. Wayans is repped by Wme.
Nardino’s previous credits include “Star Trek: Discovery,” “Quantico,” and “Desperate Housewives.” He is repped by Wme.

The CW has given a pilot green light to Glamorous, an hourlong drama from Damon Wayans Jr. and his Two Shakes Entertainment, writer Jordon Nardino (Star Trek Discovery) and CBS TV Studios, where Two Shakes is based.
This is the CW’s sixth pilot order this season — three from each co-parent studio, CBS TV Studios and Warner Bros. TV. I hear Wbtv’s L.A. Complex reboot remains in contention.

[Editor’s Note: The following contains spoilers from “Star Trek: Discovery’s” episode “Vaulting Ambition.”]
“All Hail her most Imperial Majesty, Mother of the Fatherland, Overlord of Vulcan, Dominus of Qo’noS, Regina Andor. All Hail Philippa Georgiou Augustus Iaponius Centarius.”
In the Mirror Universe, Philippa Georgiou is Emperor of the Terrans, a leader who is as ruthless as she is stylish. This is reflected in her pompous but very descriptive string of titles, as well as her full tongue-twister name. But what does it all mean? Because of course, her name is not a random assemblage of words. Within those syllables lie clues to her past.

It’s been quite a year for soccer star Robbie Rogers. Ever since the 27-year-old athlete first came out as gay in 2013 and subsequently announced his retirement from the sport, he’s been making headlines -- for all the right reasons. Not only did he help lead the charge for gay athletes to come out -- his announcement was quickly followed by NBA player Jason Collins and, earlier this year, NFL prospect Michael Sam -- Rogers signed with the La Galaxy to become the first openly gay player in a major U.S. sports league and helped change the landscape for Lgbt athletes.
In the months since, Rogers has become a star himself and expanded his reach beyond sports. In addition to starting a men’s fashion line, Halsey, he has also dabbled in modeling, teamed up with author Eric Marcus to write his new memoir, Coming Out to Play, which is in stores...
