Easily one of the best movies of its kind, J.A. Bayona’s minute-by-minute tale of survival poses an immediate challenge to audiences: could I survive that? The genuinely terrifying true story of one family lost in the middle of a devastating disaster is even more relevant now, with similar disasters seemingly happening daily. The near-flawless direction concentrates on the direct experience of a mother and son, who in just a couple of days learn the meaning of human concern and kindness. It’s a Spanish production (in English); Naomi Watts received an Oscar nomination and Ewan McGregor and young Tom Holland give strong performances. We reach back ten years for this review.

Film: "The Impossible"; Cast: Naomi Watts, Ewan McGregor, Tom Holland, Samuel Joslin, Oaklee Pendergast, Marta Etura, Ploy Jindachote and Johan Sundberg; Director: Juan Antonio Bayona; Rating: *** - captures hearts with performances.
If the tsunami of Dec 26, 2004, which killed nearly a quarter of a million people in 14 countries, has not touched your lives, then "The impossible' will definitely do that and much more. You are bound to be swept off by the emotional quotient of the killer waves.
Urgent yet measured, like the onrushing tide, "The Impossible" is a real-life disaster film with scenes that would churn your stomach.

The Impossible Trailer. Juan Antonio Bayona‘s The Impossible (2011) teaser trailer stars Ewan McGregor, Naomi Watts, Geraldine Chaplin, Marta Etura, and Dominic Power. I am one of few horror movie fans that has not seen The Orphanage. I know, get on it. I actually think I have it somewhere but never got around to watching it. Needless to say, The Orphanage put Juan Antonio Bayona on the directorial map. His new film, The Impossible, immediately reminded me of Hereafter but hopefully it will turn out better than that film did.
The Impossible also stars Bruce Blain, Natalie Lorence, Anteo Quintavalle, and Ploy Jindachote.

Friday Killer
Directed by Yuthlert Sippapak
Thailand, 2009
The first part of a trilogy (followed by, you guessed it, Saturday Killer and Sunday Killer) Friday Killer is an odd hodge-podge of allusion and genre bending that very nearly clicks fully together in the end.
Pay Uzi (Thep Po-ngam) is a professional hitman. He’s old, small, fresh out of prison, and not particularly precise with a gun. His name comes from his penchant for spraying his targets with automatic Uzi bullets rather than a singular telescoped sight ala your stereotypical movie assassin. Pay only kills on Friday because a Buddhist monk once told him to do so.
A giant governmental conspiracy greets Pay when he first leaves the prison yard in the form of a knife to the stomach. Someone wants him dead. Unfortunately for Pay, his daughter, who doesn’t know she’s his daughter, also wants him dead because...

With the Afm only a week away, Bloody Disgusting has scored your first ever hi-res look at John Penney's Shadows, which feature Saw star Cary Elwes, along with some other interesting stills. Ploy Jindachote and Paula Taylor also star. Immediately upon arriving in Bangkok, American Jeff (Cary Elwes), his Thai wife Sua (Paula Taylor) and their son Kyle are hit by a truck while driving to visit Sua's father.... Six weeks later Jeff regains consciousness in hospital. He's horrified to learn he is the only survivor and is unsettled by his own lack of grief. Even more unsettling, Jeff begins seeing ghosts, all of whom appear to have died terribly, and he confides in his nurse Choi (Ploy Jindachote). More...
