New Delhi, May 12 (Ians) Time and again, it’s been the batting, which has let Delhi Capitals (DC) down in the ongoing Ipl 2023 and the David Warner led side will look to sort it out when they face a desperate Punjab Kings (Pbks) in the Match No 59 of the season at Arun Jaitley Stadium, here on Friday.
Both teams are coming off crushing defeats in their last matches respectively. Delhi lost to Chennai on a spin-friendly Chepauk track while Punjab Kings suffered a last-ball defeat against Kkr at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
The Capitals are placed at the bottom of the table with eight points from 11 matches and even if they win their next three matches, it will only take them to 14 points, which might not be enough to earn them a place in the top four.
The Australian duo of captain Warner and coach Ricky Ponting would certainly want more...

The DC opener punched one to extra cover where Rawat dived to his right, got up instantly and scored a direct hit at the non-striker’s end as Shaw was found short.

Adelaide, Nov 10 (Ians) Former Australia cricketer Shane Watson on Thursday slammed India’s ‘timid’ batting approach in the powerplay after the team’s humiliating exit from the Men’s T20 World Cup 2022, here.
England openers Jos Buttler (80 not out from 49 balls) and Alex Hales (86 not out from 47) made a chase of 169 look like a walk in the park in the semifinal of the Men’s T20 World Cup 2022, powering their team to the final with a convincing 10-wicket win over India.
Earlier batting first, India played conservatively in the powerplay and scored just 38 runs.On the other hand, England had an aggressive approach and smashed 63 in six overs.
“India were too timid with the bat. Unfortunately, Rohit and Kl were not able to take the game on in the first six overs. They have got the firepower but you have to take the game on in T20 cricket,” Watson told Star Sports.

Sydney, Nov 7 (Ians) With India and Pakistan qualifying for the semifinals of Men’s T20 World Cup, a dream final at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Sunday between the arch-rivals now looms as a strong possibility, which has left former Australia all-rounder Shane Watson excited.
In the semifinal, India will clash with England on Thursday at the Adelaide Oval, a day after Pakistan take on New Zealand at the Sydney Cricket Ground. The two teams had clashed in the Group 2 match in front of a sell-out McG on October 23, where Virat Kohli’s iconic 82 not out had taken India over the line on the last ball of the chase.

Melbourne, Nov 7 (Ians) Legendary India batter Sunil Gavaskar hailed the excellent batsmanship showed by middle-order batter Suryakumar Yadav in the Men’s T20 World Cup, saying that he is the one who is propelling the side to totals which they can defend well.
On Sunday, Suryakumar enthralled 82,000 fans at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in a death overs batting masterclass of 25-ball 61 not out. He set the base for a 71-run thrashing of Zimbabwe to set up a semi-final showdown with England at Adelaide Oval on Thursday.
“He is actually turning out to be the player who is taking India to totals which you can defend. The score India got was the highest T20I score at the McG. Without his 61 not out, India would not have reached even 150. Each of those innings was pretty much 360 degrees,” said Gavaskar on India Today after the match ended.

Melbourne, Nov 7 (Ians) Former Australian allrounder and one of the main critics of Cricket Australia’s (CA) continued indecisiveness to reinstate David Warner’s leadership role, Shane Watson has upped the demand for the top-order batting stalwart to be made the country’s T20 skipper in the wake of the team’s dismal performance in the T20 World Cup at home under Aaron Finch.
Australia’s campaign in the T20 World Cup at home ended prematurely on account of their lacklustre performances and some questionable selection decisions, with New Zealand and England moving into the last-four from Group 1 of the Super 12 stage.
With experts demanding a thorough review of Australia’s debacle, Watson said it’s high time CA lift the leadership role ban on Warner and replace Finch with the batting stalwart.

Dubai, Aug 24 (Ians) Former Australia all-rounder Shane Watson is of the view that whoever emerges as the winner of the India-Pakistan clash in the upcoming Asia Cup on August 28 will also win the competition.
Sunday’s clash at Dubai will see the resumption of the ‘greatest rivalry’ in the world of cricket when India and Pakistan open their Asia Cup Group A campaign. This will also be the first meeting between these two teams after facing off in the Men’s T20 World Cup last year in the UAE, where Pakistan secured a 10-wicket victory over India, their first such win in Men’s World Cups.
“That first game is going to be very special to watch because Pakistan have full belief now that they can beat this Indian team. I think, really, whoever wins that game is going to go on and win the Asia Cup,” said Watson on The Icc Review show.

Kohli returns to the Indian team for the Asia Cup in T20I format, having last played for the national team during the tour of England in July. He was then rested for white-ball tour of West Indies and ODIs against Zimbabwe. Kohli has been in a prolonged lean patch, having not scored a century in international cricket since November 2019.
If he features in India’s 2022 Asia Cup opener against Pakistan on August 28 in Dubai, dubbed as the ‘greatest rivalry’ in cricketing world, it will also mark Kohli’s 100th T20I appearance.

Melbourne, Aug 23 (Ians) India batter Suryakumar Yadav is among Shane Watson’s top-five picks in the burgeoning field of T20 specialists in the world, with the legendary Australian cricketer saying the charismatic cricketer has done “incredibly well” with the Icc T20 World Cup round the corner.
Watson, in his Icc Review on Tuesday, however, added that he wouldn’t be astonished if Kl Rahul, who led India to a 3-0 Odi series win against Zimbabwe recently, “explodes” at the T20 World Cup in October-November this year.
“Second one (pick) is Suryakumar Yadav,” said Watson on Tuesday. “He’s batting incredibly well, and he would be my No.2 pick. But I wouldn’t be surprised at all if (India team-mate) Kl Rahul explodes in the T20 World Cup in Australia, because he’s got the game to dominate in these conditions in Australia.”

Dhaka, Aug 23 (Ians) Bangladesh pacer Hasan Mahmud and wicketkeeper Nurul Hasan Sohan have joined veteran batter Litton Das on the sidelines ahead of the side’s campaign in the Asia Cup T20 tournament in the UAE, beginning August 27.
The loss of the two key players is a big blow to Banglandesh in its bid to capture their maiden Asia Cup title. While Bangladesh have finished runners-up thrice — in 2012, 2016 and 2018 — they have never won the continental trophy.
Hasan is set to be unavailable for up to a month after he hurt his ankle during training last week, while Nurul recently underwent surgery on an injured finger and needs time to rest the affected area.
Left-handed batter Mohammad Naim earns a reprieve after solid form for Bangladesh A during their recent tour of the West Indies and has been named as a replacement, with the 17-player squad to depart Dhaka for Dubai on Tuesday.

Dubai, Aug 20 (Ians) Former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson believes South Africa and Australia are on course to securing berths in the 2023 World Test Championship (Wtc) final, adding that going by the current form of the two side, it would be extremely difficult for any team to veer them off their course.
On Friday, the Proteas led by Dean Elgar defeated England by an innings and 12 runs inside three days in the opening Test at Lord’s to further cement their position at the top of the Wtc table. Australia, led by Pat Cummins, are a close second on the table.
“Right now, the way I see it, it’s going to be hard for South Africa and Australia to not make it,” Watson said on The Icc Review.

New Delhi, May 30 (Ians) Despite the Indian Premier League (Ipl) 2021 final not being held as per schedule on Sunday, May 30 remains special in the league's history, especially for hard-hitters like Shane Watson and Virender Sehwag.
Seven years ago, Sehwag hammered 122 runs to lead Punjab franchise (then known as Kings XI Punjab) to their only final in Ipl history.
Opening the batting in Qualifier 2 of the 2014 Ipl edition against heavyweight Chennai Super Kings (Csk), Kings XI made 226 for six in 20 overs with Sehwag leading the charge, hitting 12 fours and eight sixes in his 58-ball knock.
He added 110 for the first wicket with Manan Vohra in 10.4 overs and by the time he was dismissed in 19th over, Kings XI had reached 211 for three.
It was the second of Sehwag's two hundreds in Ipl. His first, a 119, came in the 2011 edition against the Hyderabad franchise.
Csk could respond with just 202 for seven in 20 overs.

New Delhi, Nov 4 (Ians) The league stage of the Indian Premier League (Ipl) 13 was an attritional one with players struggling to regain form once they hit a rough patch. This has often resulted in teams, seemingly cruising at one stage, stumbling their way across the line.
There are players who got off the flying starts, only to lose their way over the course of the season while there were those who struggled to find form for much of the group stage and by the time they did, it was too late for their team.

There was an added anticipation to the start of Dhoni's campaign in Ipl 2020 because he had not played any professional cricket for over a year and had announced his international retirement a month before the start of the tournament.

Abu Dhabi, Oct 31 (Ians/GloFans) Five wins on the trot saw Kings XI Punjab (Kxip) making a turnaround in their fortunes before a defeat to Rajasthan Royals (Rr) dented their Indian Premier League playoff chances. Kxip side will now have to play out of their skin against a buoyant Chennai Super Kings (Csk) on Sunday and strengthen their chances of qualifying for the playoffs.
With the race to playoffs intensifying, Kxip (12 points from 13 games) will not just bank on a win but would also hope all other calculations go their way to enable them to finish among the top four at the end of the league phase. Dubai, Oct 30 (Ians) Even though Chennai Super Kings are out of contention of making it to the playoffs in Ipl 2020, Csk batsman Ruturaj Gaikwad has stated that the atmosphere in the dressing room is "pretty relaxed" and that it doesn't feel the three-time champions are out of the tournament.

Dubai, Oct 30 (Ians) When Kolkata Knight Riders (Kkr) brought in their most successful bowler this season, Varun Chakravarthy, he looked like he would cause havoc after he scalped opener Shane Watson, one of the more successful Chennai Super Kings (Csk) batsmen in the Indian Premier League. But young batsman Ruturaj Gaikwad at the other end showed the way to counter him.
Watson, unable to guess the turn as has been the case with the Kkr spinner, had gone for a big heave over mid-wicket only to hole out.
Fellow opener Gaikwad, meanwhile, offered a straight bat to the spinner, and avoided playing across the line most times. He hit a six off Chakravarthy over long-off and then hit a boundary over cover.
Batting with a straight bat was Gaikwad's way to handle the guile of the Kkr spinner, who on Thursday once again bowled Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
