Famous for his larger-than-life roles in classic films like Rocky and Rambo and, of course, his good looks, Sylvester Stallone’s family has also shared some of his famous spotlights along the way. Did you know that his real life is just as fascinating as his character on screen?
The relationship between his father, Frank Stallone Sr., and his mother, Jackie Stallone, has been quite interesting. Eventually, Stallone’s mother had had enough. The unceasing squawking, the feathers all over the place, and most of all, the uncooked sparrows were becoming intolerable to the late astrologist.

Indeed, his mother had gone extremely crazy over her ex-husband’s strange obsession with “raw sparrows” and “rabbit entrails”. The Guardian reported that Stallone’s late father used to consume “raw sparrows and rabbit entrails” and resembled a caveman. The actor’s mother, who was presumably sick of sparrows and entrails,...

“Do I have regrets?” asks Sylvester Stallone at the beginning of “Sly,” the Thom Zimny documentary about him that served as the closing-night film at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival on Saturday. “Hell yeah, I have regrets.”
Putting that quote up front is a smart way to introduce a film about the man whose career sometimes seems to have resulted in equal parts iconography and mockery. The actor, screenwriter and director created the classic characters Rocky Balboa and John Rambo, but struggled to find respect and made more than his share of terrible films.
Another smart move: New conversations with Stallone run throughout the film, but these are not the usual talking-head interviews in which the subject sits in a chair and runs through his life. Instead, Stallone almost always talks to the camera while standing up and moving around.

When you want to be an actor, it's not always easy to carve your own path when you have a sibling who's already found success in the spotlight. For every Casey Affleck and Jake Gyllenhaal, there's a Michael Bacon, Frank Stallone or Don Swayze. Not so for Dave Franco, brother of ubiquitous polymath James Franco: Dave is quietly carving out his own niche on the big screen. With supporting roles in films such as "Warm Bodies," "21 Jump Street" and "Neighbors" already on his resume, the 29-year-old actor is primed to inspire even more laughs when he stars alongside Vince Vaughn in the new comedy "Unfinished Business," out March 6, 2015. Sylvester Stallone was on fine form as he entertained a near capacity crowd at London’s famous Palladium theatre last Saturday night. The evening was compèred by an excellent Jonathan Ross (here far removed from his usual television interview persona), who talked with Mr Stallone over the remarkable highs and lows of his film career to date.
Stallone spoke about his way into the acting world, performing in Death Of A Salesman while teaching physical education at a boarding school in Switzerland. Sly even sang a short duet with Jonathon Ross from the main theme of Paradise Alley, written by brother Frank Stallone, and impressed the audience with a quotation from Shakespeare’s Comedy Of Errors.

Believe it or not, Elvis Presley died 36 years ago today. The King passed away at his Graceland home on Aug. 16, 1977 at the age of 42. Although the legendary singer is no longer with us, Presley's legacy definitely lives on through his fans, his family (daughter Lisa Marie Presley and granddaughter Riley Keough) and in entertainment. Many actors have paid tribute to Presley by playing him in TV and film. Jack White portrayed the icon in Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story. Jonathan Rhys Meyers channeled Presley in the TV movie Elvis. Other stars who've played the King include Frank Stallone in Angels With Angels, Val Kilmer in True Romance and Bruce Campbell in Bubba Ho-Tep. And last but not least,...

Scientology has a little-known musical soundtrack. The religion's founder, L. Ron Hubbard, was a composer, singer and even had a band. John Travolta, Frank Stallone and others sang with the "Master" and can be heard below.
In the early 1980's, Hubbard went into hiding allegedly to avoid tax agents probing allegations that he was skimming church funds, the Los Angeles Times reports. While in hiding, he wrote science fiction novels and less-known soundtracks to those novels.
He also wrote essays analyzing musical genres, including country, flamenco, "oriental" and rock; you can read them here.
Listen to Hubbard's album tracks--and see amusing album artwork--in the slideshow below of videos tracked down by Buzzfeed.

Sage Stallone's cause of death has been the subject of scrutiny and investigation since he was found dead in his home on July 13, but now TMZ has obtained the L.A. County Coroner's report which states the 36-year-old actor died from a heart attack.
Coroner Chief Craig Harvey told the Los Angeles Times that Stallone died of natural causes and the toxicology test came back "negative except for a sub-therapeutic level of hydrocodone," -- though the drug played no role in his death.
According to Harvey, Sage was a heavy smoker and the habit likely helped contribute to his death, as smoking is one of the chief causes of heart disease due to elevated blood pressure, increasing the risk of clots.
In the days following his death, it had been reported that Stallone likely died of a drug overdose, with TMZ reporting that the actor and producer lived like...

From Rocky to Rocky Balboa, the six movies that make up The Rocky Saga span three decades of American pop culture and in many ways parallel Stallone's own personal highs and lows. They also offer plenty of juicy topics for discussion including the music of Frank Stallone, favourite training techniques, how to reprogram a robot, and of course, the power of the montage. The private memorial took place at the St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church in Brentwood, with the elder Stallone, wife Jennifer Flavin and brother Frank Stallone present.
"This agonizing loss will be felt for the rest of our lives. Sage is our first child and the center of our universe and I am humbly begging for all to have my son's memory and soul left in peace," Sylvester, 66, said in a statement released on Monday.

Mystery still surrounds the death of actor Sage Stallone, son of Hollywood actor Sylvester Stallone, two days after being found dead at his Los Angeles apartment at the age of 36.
The actor will be remembered mostly by his portrayal of Robert Balboa – son of Rocky in the fifth iteration of the boxing series in 1990. He again starred alongside his father in 1996 disaster film “Daylight” as Vincent, a young con-artist.
Milo Ventimiglia would later portray the elder Robert Balboa in 2006 movie Rocky 6.
His last appearance was in short film “The Agent” in 2010, and before that, in the same year, drama “Promises Written in Water“, which premiered at the Venice Film Festival and was shown at the Toronto Film Festival, though was not released in cinemas.

Before he lip-synched to children’s songs on Saturday Night, before he played Latka on Taxi, before he wrestled ladies on Merv Griffin, Andy Kaufman hitchhiked cross-country from the East Coast to Las Vegas to meet his idol, Elvis Presley. Too broke to buy Elvis tickets, he hid out in a broom closet for a couple days and waylaid the King backstage. Later, while Kaufman was knocking around the Strip, he saw someone else perform: a lounge singer who was crass, drunk, and washed up. That has-been became the inspiration for Kaufman’s ego-maniacal character Tony Clifton, a bitter, libidinous Mr.

The blowhard standing in the Annie Hall movie line was right, of course: After a while, Federico Fellini really did get to be an “indulgent” filmmaker. But before that dreaded word Felliniesque was turned into a lazy pop- cultural signifier for clowns, dwarves, big-bosomed earth- mother Italian sirens, and a general wearying frenzy of circuslike surrealism, it was a term — and a film aesthetic — that meant something, that conjured the modern madness of everyday life. Reality, the first film directed by Matteo Garrone since Gomorra (2008) — his coldly visionary dissection of an Italian society run at every level by the Mafia...

As a boxer, Rocky Balboa was famous for his tenacity. In the face of impossible odds, the guy just wouldn't quit. Sylvester Stallone, the man who created and portrayed Rocky, is sort of the same way. He retired Rocky once after 1990's "Rocky V" then brought him back sixteen years later for "Rocky Balboa." Now, five years after the latest "last" "Rocky," he's bringing the character back again, this time on the stage.
That's right. Get ready for "Rocky: The Musical."
The Hollywood Reporter reports that Stallone is producing a "Rocky" musical which will premiere in Germany next fall in advance of an English language world tour. If you're wondering whether classic "Rocky" musical moments like "Eye of the Tiger" will be recreated on the stage, the answer, apparently, is yes. From THR's article:
"Broadway veteran Thomas Meehan ('The Producers') will write the script to 'Rocky: The Musical.

Out of all the movies that could have musical adaptations, I can't really say I pictured Rocky as one that would qualify, but apparently Sylvester Stallone disagrees. He's signed on to produce (thankfully not star in) a Rocky musical that will be an all-singing, all-dancing affair. Here's a rundown of the major facts via Badass Digest: Sylvester Stallone is teaming with Wladimir Kitschko and his brother Vitali (Russia's Frank Stallone?) to produce a musical based on the movie that gave Sly...

Zsa Zsa Gabor was forced to watch her wedding anniversary party from her bed because of her ailing health. The Hollywood legend recently celebrated 25 years of marriage to Frédéric Prinz von Anhalt, an occasion which von Anhalt had already commemorated with a $$68,000 (£41,761) billboard on Sunset Boulevard. Von Anhalt hosted a gathering at the couple's Los Angeles home on Sunday, welcoming celebrity friends including Quincy Jones, Phyllis Diller, Robert Blake and Frank Stallone, according to The Hollywood Reporter. He later claimed in a Facebook video that Gabor had been treated like royalty at the party and even wore a tiara and pink gown. Von Anhalt said: "Look, my wife is 94 years old. Ailing actress Zsa Zsa Gabor's husband Prince Frederic Von Anhalt has defended his decision to stage a 25th wedding anniversary party, insisting he deserves to celebrate because he has been with the star longer than her other eight husbands.
Many criticised Von Anhalt for throwing the anniversary party at the home he shares with Gabor in Bel Air, Los Angeles on Sunday - but he insists it was justified.
He says, "People attack me for this and say, 'How can you do it for a sick woman?' Look, my wife is 94 years old. She should have everything she wants and should have everything large. This big party is not for the guests, not for the media, not for me - this big party is for Zsa Zsa."
He jokes, "It's 25 years with Zsa Zsa Gabor. It's a big thing, it's a huge thing, and I made it. So many husbands didn't make it - they only made it a year or two. I made it 25 years, so I must have done something right."
The couple was married in 1986 and a shot from the wedding featured on a giant billboard Von Anhalt rented above Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood to mark the anniversary.
He tells the Los Angeles Times newspaper his wife watched the party, which was attended by members of various news outlets and stars like Phyllis Diller and Frank Stallone, from her bed.

Like his "First Blood" theme song says, it's been a long road for John Rambo: a novel, four movies, two Silver Stars, four Bronze Stars for Valor, four Purple Hearts, the Medal of Honor, even a soundtrack featuring the music of Frank Stallone (that must be what the Purple Hearts were for). But none of that compared to the horror of his appearances on video game consoles, particularly in one unforgettably terrible Nintendo game that sucked tens of dollars and hundreds of hours out of the lives of thousands of kids of my generation. I never had to go to Vietnam, thank God. But I had to play the "Rambo" game, which left its own brutal scars on my psyche.
Rambo's made scattered gaming appearances here or there in the years since, and just last spring I told you about his hilariously violent arcade light gun game that is truly a sight to behold.

Frank Stallone Sr. passed away in Florida, with the Rocky star by his side, on 11 July after a battle with prostate cancer.
His relationship with Sylvester had been strained, but the action man put aside their differences for an emotional farewell.
Jackie tells Britain's Sunday Express that Frank died "knowing his son loved him", adding, "It turned out to be the last time they saw each other and it was beautiful. I cry, more with joy than sadness, when I look at them."
And Sylvester went the extra mile to ensure his dying dad was happy, treating the 91 year old to his favourite traditional foods.
Jackie recalls, "(Sylvester) treated everyone to an Italian meal they ordered in. That's just what Frank wanted. When a person is dying all you should remember are the good things about him... He'd had the greatest gift of all - seeing his son again."...
