Will Power’s Fetch Clay, Make Man is coming to Culver City thanks to LeBron James and Maverick Carter’s SpringHill Company and Center Theatre Group.
The play, focused on the unlikely friendship of legendary boxer Muhammad Ali and Hollywood icon Stepin Fetchit, will hit the stage at the Kirk Douglas Theatre from June 25-July 16 with Debbie Allen at the helm in her Ctg directorial debut. Opening night is set for June 25.
The story explores the bond that formed when the two met in the days leading up to one of Ali’s most anticipated fights, with one described as “a vibrant and audacious youth, the other a resentful and widely resented relic — each fighting to form their public personas and shape their legacies amidst the struggle of the Civil Rights Movement of the mid-1960s.”

Bruce Springsteen continued his takeover of The Tonight Show Tuesday with a performance of the soul classic “Turn Back the Hands of Time.”
Armed with a massive ensemble that included strings, horns, and a quartet of backup singers, Springsteen delivered a rousing version of the 1970 hit popularized by R&b great Tyrone Davis, as well as Jimmy and David Ruffin. The track features on Springsteen’s new covers LP Only the Strong Survive.

Bruce Springsteen is releasing a collection of soul covers entitled Only The Strong Survive on November 11. Check out the video right here for “Do I Love You (Indeed I Do),” which was originally recorded by Frank Wilson.
The album centers around soul classics, both obscure and well-known, released from the Sixties through the Eighties. It gets its title from Jerry Butler’s 1969 tune “Only The Strong Survive.” The disc also includes “Soul Days” by Dobie Gray, “Nightshift” by the Commodores, “I Wish It Would Rain” by the Temptations, and “Somebody...

The R&b veteran Kem hasn’t released a new album since 2014: He took time away to get married, have two kids, change management, and chase a life of domesticity rarely conducive to the rigors of being a working musician. After returning from that sort of hiatus, most singers would try to keep risks to a minimum. But “Not Before You” arrives as a pleasant jolt on Kem’s latest album, Love Always Wins — a traditional ballad enlivened by unexpected, enticing choices.

Candi Staton’s career has been full of zigzags since she released her first solo album, I’m Just a Prisoner, in 1970. She was an overlooked southern soul singer, working with producer Rick Hall of Muscle Shoals fame; a dancefloor killer in both discos (“Young Hearts Run Free”) and European clubs (the Source collaboration “You Got the Love”); a gospel singer with a spot in the Christian Music Hall of Fame; and a cause celebre for indie rockers when working with aging soul singers became a fad in the 2000s.

Yes, Super Bowl winning coach Jimmy Johnson really is coming on board Survivor this season.
The former Dallas Cowboys employee will be part of the Espada tribe, as Survivor: Nicaragua breaks up its contestants into old versus young. Will Johnson be voted out early, due to his status? Or kept around... due to his status?
"He's wealthy - or you certainly think he is," Jeff Probst said to E! News about Johnson's status on the show. "He's incredibly successful, so he has fame... He'll tell you, 'If I win, I'm giving it to charity.' He really wants adventure."
Probst also shared a few details about the upcoming season, which premieres on Wednesday, September 15. Due to the discrepancy in tribe ages, there won't be any "big physical challenges." But there will be a new twist: the Medallion of Power.
If the tribe that possesses this item chooses to use it,...

Canadian rapper Drake's "Best I Ever Had" single is not only a smash for him, but it's becoming one of the best remixed tracks of the summer. The latest entry comes from self-professed "King of Remixes" Trey Songz, who dropped his track via his Twitter account.
"In the studio tryna paint a musical Picasso," he wrote of the track.
It's not the first time Drake and Trey Songz have collaborated on a song — they previously released "Successful" and "Replacement Girl" together. In the remix of "Best I Ever Had," he tweaks the lyrics slightly, so instead of "Baby you my everything/ You're all I ever wanted," it's now "She said I'm her everything/ I'm all she ever wanted." The track retains the same charm and smoothness as the original with an extra dash of theatricality and swagger care of Songz.
Just as we did when comparing Songz to fellow remixer R. Kelly,...
