Jason Gallagher has an unusually diverse credit list with nearly 23 years of experience in film and television. He is a graduate from the film department at Boston University. While in Boston early in his career, he directed and edited an acclaimed documentary on the infamous Bostonian Preacher Jack, and was the cinematographer of a film called Benny that was an official selection of the Boston Film Festival.
Gallagher moved to New York City and landed a producing position at MTV, where he produced and edited for series like True
Life, Diary, The Video Music Awards, and created the interview show All Eyes On for the news and documentary department. He both produced and edited the record-breaking series, which profiled the likes of Jay-Z, 50 Cent, Britney Spears, and Kanye West at the height of their popularity.
After his time at MTV, Gallagher moved into the freelance editing world, serving as editor on shows for VH1, Bravo, Fuse, FOX, The Weinstein Company, CBS, Comedy Central, and many others. He worked on Emmy-nominated programming, and won a NLGJA award for his work on The Advocate News Magazine. Gallagher joined director John Hyams as an editor on the feature film Universal Soldier: Regeneration and the IFC feature documentary Rank, which was featured at both the SXSW and Full Frame film festivals. He also produced and edited the short film Glock, directed by Tom Everett Scott with music by Michael Giacchino, that premiered at the New York Film Festival and won the audience award at GenArt Chicago.
Gallagher also has 20 years of experience writing, recording, and producing music, and was the composer and music supervisor for the Syfy series Z Nation, Robbie on Comedy Central, and several feature films and commercials.
Gallagher has directed short films for Comedy Central, Funny or Die, and Abso Lutely productions, and developed and directed the post show for The Comedy Jam on Comedy Central. He was nominated for an Emmy Award for his editing on Fresh Fried & Crispy (Netflix), for which he also composed the original music.
Now based in Los Angeles, Gallagher is a development consultant, producer, and editor for several successful production companies, and continues to direct and produce both scripted and unscripted works. He also spends some time teaching editing at USC Cinematic Arts.
