Grey’s Anatomy has broken many hearts over its 20 seasons (and counting), but it’s also angered fans with how certain characters were written off. Realistically, no one wants to see their favorite character leave a show, but if it’s handled the right way, a good departure allows the legacy of the character to remain untouched.
While there are many factors that go into planning and handling a character’s exit, the final product can be hit or miss. Here are what we consider to be the worst and most unnecessary exits from TV’s longest-running primetime medical drama.
10. April Kepner
While April’s (Sarah Drew) departure in season 14 could be considered a “happy ending” for the character, it was deeply unsatisfying for viewers. She had apparently been dating Matthew (Justin Bruening), who she left at the altar, for months and didn’t tell anyone. That itself is surprising but...

My mom always taught me that the only thing that happens when you assume is that you make an “ass” out of “u” and “me.” Well sorry, mother, but I assumed AMC’s Maggie and Negan spinoff The Walking Dead: Dead City would be a one-season experience.

When Fear the Walking Dead was removed from Hulu earlier this year, there was no way you could watch the first seven seasons without purchasing the episodes.
Thankfully, older episodes of the first spinoff of The Walking Dead will be getting a more permanent home on AMC+.
The streaming service announced Wednesday that the first seven episodes will be available for subscribers beginning Friday, July 21, 2023.
You're probably wondering why older episodes of the series didn't make it to AMC+ until now, and the answer is simple:
The series launched years before AMC+ was an entity, so AMCNetworks made a deal with Hulu to be the streaming home.
It's a similar scenario to the parent series, The Walking Dead, which is currently available for streaming on Netflix and Not AMC+.
The news comes as Fear the Walking Dead prepares to say goodbye, with Fear the Walking Dead Season 8 serving as the series' swan song.

Picking up right where the previous episode of “The Walking Dead: Dead City” left off, Maggie and co. dig deeper through the Methane-filled sewers of New York City while Negan and Marshall Perlie Armstrong (Gaius Charles) venture off on their own journey through the city. Ginny (Mahina Napoleon) is now also along for the ride after intervening during the attack on Madison Square Garden.
Napoleon’s character continues to not say a word, choosing only to communicate through judgmental glances. Meanwhile, the Croat (Željko Ivanek) takes a rage-fueled trip to an abandoned theater where he reports the recent skirmish to a mysterious woman called the Dama (Lisa Emery) who seems to be his superior.

The Walking Dead: Dead City Episode 5
Negan is a swaggering, leather-clad bad-ass who smashes zombies and people with equal ease, if his introduction was to believe. The Negan who was introduced in the season 6 episode of The Walking Dead, “The Last Day on Earth,” has slowly changed into something different. Not changed, as much as revealed; we’ve been allowed to see behind the mask that turned a humble gym teacher and devoted wife guy named Negan Smith into the character of Negan. Behind the leaning-at-angles shtick and the constant stream of quips, there’s a real man masking real emotions and insecurities. The Walking Dead: Dead City has provided more of a peek behind that curtain and given Jeffrey Dean Morgan more to play with that isn’t just surface-level cool.
Maggie is going through that journey in the opposite direction.

The Walking Dead: Dead City is a thrilling spin-off of the popular zombie apocalypse series that takes place in New York City. The show follows Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffery Dean Morgan), two former enemies who have to work together to survive the horrors of the undead and the living.
Thus, far, the show delivers on its promise of action, suspense, drama and gore, while also exploring the complex relationship between the two protagonists. Maggie and Negan have a history of hatred and betrayal, but they also share a common goal of finding a safe place for their people. The show does a great job of balancing their conflicts and their cooperation, as well as their personal growth and redemption.
The show also features stunning visuals of a decaying and overrun New York, as well as some memorable new characters and villains. The Walking Dead: Dead City is a...

The Walking Dead: Dead City Episode 3
My initial comparison between The Walking Dead: Dead City and Escape from New York was, at first glance, only surface level. There are similarities, clearly, but I had no idea that The Croat (Zeljko Ivanek) was having gladiator fights in a non-union store-brand equivalent of the Octagon. Now it’s clear that Dead City is a riff on Escape from New York, and as far as things to pattern your show after, you could do worse than John Carpenter. He’s the master of genre flicks, after all; for all the emphasis on human drama and soap opera emotions, The Walking Dead universe is a survival horror universe at its very core, and touches like this show a willingness to embrace that.
Of course, you have to have something in between all the special effects and action sequences.

This article contains light spoilers for The Walking Dead: Dead City through episode 2.
In The Walking Dead: Dead City‘s first episode, Marshal Perlie Armstrong (Gaius Charles) introduces himself. He’s a family man who doesn’t drink or smoke, and whose only vice is a good hog stew. In his black cowboy hat, he’s the picture of justice, and that little glimpse into Perlie’s life explains a whole lot about just why Ginny decides to sneak out of New Babylon to find her way to the Big Apple. Thankfully for her, Manhattan is only a short scooter ride and canoe trip away from New Jersey’s New Babylon.
Perlie is aggressive when he needs to be, and clearly, he’s a very straight-laced character who fits right in with the picture of post-apocalyptic lawmen like Rick Grimes. He’s got right and wrong, and the power to...

“The Walking Dead: Dead City” had the biggest premiere of any season of television on AMC+ since the service launched in 2020.
The previous record-holder was predecessor series “The Walking Dead.” The iconic zombie drama had its 11th and final season released in three stretches, with the final set of eight episodes achieving the biggest debut on Oct. 2, 2022.
These data points are reported by AMC based on one week of streaming data for each respective premiere.
“The Walking Dead: Dead City” also made waves on linear TV, where the first episode brought in 2 million viewers accounting for three days of measurement. That includes the AMC cable channel as well as a simulcast across Bbca, IFC and SundanceTV, as well as two encore screenings on AMC. Of those 2 million, 768,000 fell into the adults age 25-54 range, with 573,000 in the adults 18-49 range, per Live+3 data.

We’re about halfway done with 2023, and any cable drama premieres that come along in the second half of the year have a new viewership number to try to beat. The Hollywood Reporter shares the news that the Walking Dead spin-off The Walking Dead: Dead City (check out our review Here) is now the biggest cable drama debut of the year, having drawn in 683,000 viewers as it aired on AMC last Sunday, with viewers of the simulcasts on BBC America and IFC, plus replays, boosting the number of viewers to 1.12 million. The Hollywood Reporter notes that “Dead City also became the top series premiere ever on the AMC+ streaming service, in both viewers and acquisition, surpassing Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches (though as usual with streaming platforms, detailed viewing figures aren’t made public).”

AMC’s “The Walking Dead” has crawled back out of its shallow grave following the series finale that aired back in November with “The Walking Dead: Dead City.” The first of many spin-offs on the horizon, “Dead City” follows Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) as they venture into a walker-infested New York City to rescue Maggie and Glenn’s son Hershel who has been kidnapped by a former-Savior.
Set a few years after the flagship series’ strong finale, Maggie and Negan have gone their separate ways since their intensive conversation in the final episode. Maggie continues to float between Hilltop and other adjacent communities. Negan has taken a nomad approach to life, getting into all sorts of trouble around the post-apocalyptic wasteland. After a no-good group of baddies begins demanding resources monthly from one of Maggie’s communities, they take young Hershel as a collateral hostage. Meanwhile,...

There would be no playing of Peaches & Herb’s “Reunited” in Sunday’s premiere of AMC’s third Walking Dead spinoff, Dead City, ’cause good was most definitely not how being together again felt to either Negan or Maggie. In fact, Glenn’s widow only sought out his killer anew to help her save kidnapped son from a baddie called The Croat (Željko Ivanek). Why was Negan her best chance of rescuing her dad’s namesake? The Walking Dead: Dead City Episode 1
Picking up where a show left off should be old hat for the creative team behind The Walking Dead: Dead City. After all, The Walking Dead and Fear The Walking Dead did that kind of thing all the time. Every few seasons, when there was a narrative need, they jumped forward in time, scrambled locations and places, and generally reset things as befitted the story they want to tell. As such, the new lives for Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) don’t feel jarring. We’ve already been through at least one or two Maggie reboots at this point; what’s another one?
The story is your basic action movie set-up. Someone’s got her child, in this case a teenage Hershel (Logan Kim), and she’s got to get him back...

As I continue to decompress after the recent onslaught of finales, it remains perplexing how quiet last fall’s conclusion to The Walking Dead was. Sure, the show was no longer a critical favorite or an audience juggernaut, but The Walking Dead spent years as one of the most discussed shows on all of television, only to lurch haltingly into the sunset.
Or maybe there was an instinct to devalue the ostensible series finale of The Walking Dead because AMC had already announced a bevy of upcoming spinoffs. What was the point in getting worked up about missing our favorite remaining grungy survivalists and the zombies who loved to eat them when we knew nobody was going to be gone for long?

Once among TV’s most popular series, AMC’s The Walking Dead followed Rick Grimes, a sheriff’s deputy who wakes from a coma to find the world overrun by zombies, colloquially referred to as “walkers.” As he searches for his missing wife and son, Rick encountered a variety of survivors and learns the profound depths of human cruelty and resilience. Over time, the show’s focus shifted from simple survival amid the walker outbreak to conflicts between surviving communities, each striving to establish their own vision of a new civilization. The central theme emphasized the struggles and ethical dilemmas that arise in this gruesome and uncertain world.
Spinoff series The Walking Dead: Dead City continues that legacy. Premiering on AMC this Sunday, June 18, it tracks the journey of beloved Walking Dead characters Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffery Dean Morgan), who leaves behind his young companion Ginny (Mahina Anne Marie Napoleon...

AMC's The Walking Dead universe has been expanding quickly in recent years.
With the conclusion of the main series in 2022 after 11 seasons, many fans desired to continue the journeys of their favorite characters.
There were many reservations when Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) were announced to be headlining The Walking Dead: Dead City.
Maggie and Negan's story ended bittersweetly as they both agreed to co-exist.
As a result, The Walking: Dead City's existence would probably kickstart one of the most polarizing alliances on TV.
Thankfully, The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 1 delivers a compelling tale that ushers in an exciting next chapter for The Walking Dead franchise.
All six episodes were provided for critics, highlighting AMC's confidence that fans will connect with this next chapter.
The series picks up several years after The Walking Dead Season 11 Episode 24, with Maggie on a quest to New York City to locate her son.

AMC continues to mine “The Walking Dead” to death. It has been nearly 13 years since the original series first aired, and yet none of its three spin-offs — soon to be four, plus an additional two in the works — have recaptured the magic of those early Rick Grimes-led seasons. After “The Last of Us” revived the prestige zombie genre with impressive quality and creativity earlier this year, AMC’s insistence on franchising continues to dilute the zombie drama du jour.
The latest spin-off, created and written by “The Walking Dead” producing veteran Eli Jorné, is not likely to convert any new fans. For viewers still slugging through the eighth season of “Fear the Walking Dead,” there are enough horror thrills in the six-episode season of “The Walking Dead: Dead City” to keep you watching and even raise an eyebrow, particularly if you’re already invested in the rich dynamic between...

It’s tough staying alive in the post-apocalyptic world that we’ve seen since The Walking Dead premiered back in 2010, but as we’ve learned from talking to cast members over the years, they all have a great sense of humor and love nothing more than to talk about the iconic franchise and, well, a lot of other things. So, of course, when TV Insider recently sat down with stars of the latest spin-off Dead City — Lauren Cohan, who plays Maggie, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who plays Negan, and new addition Gaius Charles, who plays Perlie Armstrong — we had to ask about some Walking Dead-esque questions as well as a few others. Speaking of The Walking Dead: Dead City, if you haven’t heard, it follows Maggie and Negan as they reluctantly pair up in a space that’s a few years following the end of the O.G. series last November.

New York City is usually a great trip — but maybe not if you’re also living in a post-apocalyptic world and fighting off undead walkers. In the latest The Walking Dead spinoff, Dead City, two unlikely familiar faces — Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) — end up in the Big Apple together but, don’t worry, these two haven’t suddenly buried the hatchet in a feud that began when Negan brutally killed Maggie’s husband Glenn (Steven Yeun) years ago. “I think there may be some shared purpose or mutual benefit,” Cohan told TV Insider’s Jim Halterman when she, Morgan, and co-star Gaius Charles stopped by our press room at January’s Television Critics Association press tour. Maggie’s purpose at the start of the six-episode series, which begins a few years after the events of the original Walking Dead series (which ended earlier in November 2022) is...

It seems like just last year the The Walking Dead came to an end. That’s probably because it was only just last year that The Walking Dead‘s flagship series concluded for good with its 11th season finale.
But, like any good zombie, The Walking Dead can’t truly die. The end of the series based on Robert Kirkman’s beloved comics is just the beginning of its many spinoffs. Among those spinoffs are the eighth and final season of Fear the Walking Dead, the untitled Rick and Michonne continuation, and the The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon. Also queued up for the franchise, however, will be a series that combines two of the show’s unlikeliest heroes: Maggie Rhee (Lauren Cohan) and Negan Smith (Jeffrey Dean Morgan).

The zombie kill count is predictably sky-high in the newest trailer for The Walking Dead: Dead City, which sees Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan reprising their roles from the flagship series to navigate a post-apocalyptic New York City.
“How do we find our way out?” Maggie Greene, played by Cohan, asks as she surveys the mean streets of Manhattan, cut off from the mainland as she and Negan (Morgan) go on a mission to rescue her kidnapped son.
The teaser trailer — which is accompanied by the punk rock track “Gimme Danger,” performed by Iggy & The Stooges — is filled with the usual undead denizens of a crumbling city as The Walking Dead universe soldiers. The sequel also stars Gaius Charles and Zeljko Ivanek.
“How do I figure into this, Maggie?” an exasperated Negan asks at one point. Eli Jorné, who has been a writer and co-executive producer on The Walking Dead for multiple seasons,...

By now we all know that nothing can stop a zombie apocalypse, not even the series finale of "The Walking Dead." The main show may be over after a whopping 11-season run, but the spin-offs are flying fast and furious and the next one up just got a brand new, full-length trailer.
I myself fell off of "The Walking Dead" wagon shortly after Negan was introduced and haven't kept up with it since somewhere around the middle of season 7, but it's unquestionable that "The Walking Dead" is a franchise that fosters a huge fandom. The cast and crew still pack huge halls at conventions and the memes just won't stop making their way onto my For You pages.

That’s the tagline for the AMC’s new post-apocalyptic drama titled “The Walking Dead: Dead City.” The series stars two “Walking Dead” alums with no love lost between them: Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan).
Fans of the original series won’t forget when Negan murdered Maggie’s husband (Steve Yeun) in front of her by pulverizing his head with a baseball bat. At least a decade has since passed, but Maggie will never forgive and forget.
Negan’s a survivalist though, and the unlikely duo head to New York City in the new series. The logline reads:
