Development continues on more film takes of author Leslie Charteris' crime-fighting vigilante 'Simon Templar' aka "The Saint":
Scripts will adapt the works of author Leslie Charteris, focusing on master thief/vigilante 'Simon Templar'.
The character has been featured in a long-running series of books by Charteris published between 1928 and 1963.
Rko owns the rights to several films based on "The Saint", including the 1938 feature "The Saint in New York".
"The Saint" has previously been adapted for several motion pictures, radio dramas, comic strips, comic books and three television series.
Templar is known as 'The Saint' because of his initials (St) and because his heroic exploits fly in the face of an otherwise nefarious reputation. Templar has aliases, often using the initials 'S.T.' such as 'Sebastian Tombs' or 'Sugarman Treacle'.
His true name is unknown, and the name 'Templar' was adopted at an early age from reading about the 'Knights Templar'.

When Sir Roger Moore sadly passed away earlier this year, accounts of his life and career understandably focused on his seven spectacular outings as James Bond 007. Personally, I rewatched The Spy Who Loved Me for the 75th time, basking once again in his effortless charm and flawlessly tailored leisure suits.

Last week, the front page of The New York Times mourned the death of Roger Moore. Shockingly, they ran a photo from Live and Let Die showing the actor, as James Bond, in bed with Jane Seymour, right there on the front page.
How fitting. But there’s a catch. While I’m a big James Bond fan, amongst 007 fans, Sean Connery is always revered at the “real” face of Bond. I get that. And if fact, when I read James Bond prose adventures I generally conjure up Connery’s face and voice as I visualize the scenes.
On the other hand… there was a 70s sentiment that admonished us all to love the one we’re with. And growing up, Roger Moore was the Bond I was with.
I clearly remember the day when my parents were debating the merits of taking my brother, Colin, and me to see a movie.

Pierce Brosnan is paying tribute to fellow James Bond star, Roger Moore.
Following the 89-year-old actor's death last week, Brosnan penned an emotional essay for Variety, published on Tuesday, in which he opens up about Moore's impact on his own life and career, calling the star his "first real hero."
"Only on reflection do I see how much of an influence Roger Moore had on me as a young Irish immigrant lad from the banks of the River Boyne," Brosnan wrote. "I guess the combination of Bond and The Saint ignited a flame for fame in my heart of innocent wonder. I wanted to be up there. Roger as the Saint made me believe in his world. And before I knew it, the man who was the Saint transformed into James Bond, an even greater hero to me as a boy."

Sir Roger Moore, best known for portraying James Bond in seven installments of the spy series, has died, according to his official Twitter account. He was 89. Moore's screen career dated back to the 1940s and gained momentum through the 1950s. His breakthrough international role came on TV's The Saint, starting in 1962. He embodied Simon Templar as a charming adventurer through six seasons. When Sean Connery declined to return as 007 after Diamonds Are Forever, Moore came on board and faced heavy criticism from fans who felt he pushed the character too far into light comedy. But those same criticisms are what made his interpretation of Bond so distinctive, likable and personable. In Live and Let Die, The Man with the Golden Gun, and...

Switzerland – Of all the breathless hype that comes with each new James Bond movie, the man who played Bond the longest (and in the most films) is often forgotten. Sir Roger Moore – he was knighted for his charity work – portrayed Bond from 1972 to 1985, and died in Switzerland on May 22, 2017. He was 89.
The roguish Moore portrayed Britain’s most famous spy with a air of sophistication and humor, eschewing the harder edge that the first Bond, Sean Connery, had established. From the first film, “Live and Let Die” (1972) to 13 years later with “A View to a Kill,” Moore defined Bond for a generation of 1970s and ‘80s filmgoers. He had been an established British TV actor before taking on his most famous role, and even made inroads in America on the popular series “Maverick” in 1960.

Sir Roger Moore, the iconic British actor who swept to fame playing The Saint and James Bond, has passed away from cancer at age 89. Moore grew up in a middle class lifestyle in Lambeth during WW2 and was among the children evacuated from the city during the Blitz. He had planned a career as a cartoonist but his good looks and charismatic personality drew him first to modeling and then studying acting at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London. He found success early in his career and was placed for a time under contract with MGM in Hollywood. However stardom didn't follow immediately. Moore mostly appeared in soap opera stories opposite big stars but none of the films were very successful and was dismissed as just another pretty face. In 1928, the writer Leslie Charteris created "The Saint", a story about a catholic spy named Simon Templar, who save the world by pretending to work for the bad guys but in the end he defeat them or turn them to the police. In the 1960s a famous tv series starring Roger Moore made the character popular even though the character borrowed a lot from James Bond, and then later the Simon Templar actor became a James Bond actor. In 1997, Paramount Pictures released a blockbuster movie of "The Saint" starring Val Kilmer, and the movie did a good profit with $169 million. However in the year later, the movie has become forgotten, and even to this day, critics were very harsh on the movie,...

With the question of who's playing James Bond in James Bond 25 unresolved, we look back at the casting conundrums 007 has faced before.
Since 1962, fewer men have played James Bond than have walked on the moon. Despite the relatively long turnaround of the role, the subject of who might follow in the footsteps of Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig in the future has fuelled many column inches and tabloid splashes.
It feels as if speculation about the seventh 007 in Eon Productions' long-lived spy franchise has been at fever pitch since this time last year, when Craig was doing the promotional rounds for Spectre and commented that he would rather “slash [his] wrists” than play Bond again. Paramount has secured the film rights to Leslie Charteris' novel series "The Saint" with plans to launch another franchise for the studio.
The story follows Simon Templar, a smart, quick-witted man who went after the scourges of the Earth - corrupt politicians, war profiteers, drug runners - to benefit his country and the greater good.
Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Brad Krevoy and Robert Evans are expected to produce the film - twenty years on since the release of the Phil Noyce-directed previous film adaptation starring Val Kilmer.
The best known adaptation remains the TV series which starred Roger Moore in the title role.

Nearly 20 years after Val Kilmer took on the role, a new take on The Saint/Simon Templar is heading to the movies...
When Val Kilmer left the role of Batman after 1995's Batman Forever, he jumped from on big franchise to what was expected to be another. He took on the lead role in 1997's movie of The Saint, directed by Phillip Noyce. It was expected to lead to box office gold. But following not great reviews, the film failed to really connect, and a planned franchise was abandoned.

Based once more on the books by Leslie Charteris, Paramount is working on a new movie, having resecured the rights to the novels, and it has its eyes on a new action franchise. It's going to be a movie series too, rather than the plans for a new TV show,...

For Your Eyes Only
Written by Richard Maibaum and Michael G. Wilson, based on Ian Fleming’s short stories “For Your Eyes only” and “Risico”
Directed by John Glen
UK, 1981,
You probably have never heard this before, but my favourite James Bond film of all time, For Your Eyes Only, was the first 007 film I ever saw. (Spookily, this is exactly the same reason that my Huffington Post doppelgänger likes the film.)
But I don’t love Roger Moore’s fourth Bond film for nostalgic reasons, or at least not completely. Every so often, the 007 franchise strips Bond of his gadgets and gives us a back to basics story where a more ruthless secret agent has only his wits to fall back on: On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, The Living Daylights, Casino Royale and For Your Eyes Only are the best examples. Of these, For Your Eyes Only stands...

Sneak Peek a new TV pilot adapting author Leslie Charteris' "The Saint", directed by Simon West ("Lara Croft: Tomb Raider") starring Adam Rayner as master thief /vigilante 'Simon Templar', with James Remar, Enrique Murciano, Thomas Kretschmann, Greg Grunberg, the original TV 'Saint' Roger Moore, Ian Ogilvy and Eliza Dushku.
'The Saint' character has been featured in a long-running series of books by Charteris published between 1928 and 1963.
The books have previously been adapted for several motion pictures, radio dramas, comic strips, comic books and three television series.
Templar is known as 'The Saint' because of his initials (St) and because his heroic exploits fly in the face of an otherwise nefarious reputation.

The first trailer for a new version of The Saint has been unveiled.
Hunted's Adam Rayner plays gentleman thief Simon Templar in the new remake, which also stars Buffy's Eliza Dushku.
Created by Leslie Charteris, the Saint franchise focuses on thief and amateur detective Templar - a modern day Robin Hood.
Charteris's novels were famously adapted for a 1960s TV series starring Roger Moore in the lead role and again for '70s drama Return of the Saint with Ian Ogilvy.
Both Moore and Ogilvy feature in the new pilot, which also stars James Remar (Dexter), Enrique Murciano (Without a Trace) and Thomas Kretschmann (The River).
Film and TV production company Mpca is behind the new Saint adaptation, which will be shopped to networks following a screening at this year's Miptv Media Market in Cannes.

One of pulp fiction's most enduring characters, The Saint, could be headed back to TV.
A new version of "The Saint" starring Adam Rayner ("Hunted," "Hawthorne") as Simon Templar, a Robin Hood-esque master thief, could be coming to a TV screen near you. Eliza Dushku ("Dollhouse," "Buffy the Vampire Slayer") also stars as Patricia Holm, Templar's on-and-off love interest in author Leslie Charteris' novels.
Jesse Alexander ("Alias," "Heroes") wrote the script for the new incarnation, which also features cameos by Roger Moore, who starred as The Saint in a long-running 1960s series, and Ian Ogilvy, who revived the character in the 1970s. Simon West ("Con Air," "Keen Eddie") directed it.
The show doesn't yet have a place to air, but its producers are hoping to change that by screening the pilot at the Miptv market in Cannes next week.

“The Saint” is apparently pretty popular, because there hasn’t been one TV series, there have been two in the past. Now you can add a third, with Adam Rayner (of Cinemax’s short-lived “Hunted” with Melissa George) slipping on the halo as the titular master thief/expert at everything Simon Templar. This time around, though, Templar’s got a sexy hacker/kick-ass co-star in Eliza Dushku. Check out the first trailer for the new “Saint” TV series, the pilot episode of which was directed by feature film director Simon West. Like most extended trailers for TV shows, this one basically gives away the entire pilot from start to finish. They have to, it’s how they try to hook you into showing up for the show. “The Saint” also stars James Remar, Enrique Murciano, Thomas Kretschmann, and Greg Grunberg. IMDb has been the go-to source for movie information on the Internet since 'Nam, and it (obviously) takes its work seriously. So it's rare that you'll find a synopsis for a well-known movie that's anything but diligent and professional.
That's what makes those moments when you do find a bad IMDb synopsis special. But what makes a "bad" IMDb synopsis, exactly? In this case, we measured it by two things: undertones of laziness, or undertones of snark — and in some cases, both.
We found 10 in a hopeless place.
1. 'Friends with Benefits' (2011)
Analysis: To be fair, the plot of this movie should really just be "Mila Kunis and Justin Timberlake take you on a first class trip to Poundtown," as that's the reason the movie exists and sold tickets. But context aside, the above synopsis would have definitely had a Microsoft Word green squiggly underline underneath it signifying the...

Eliza Dushku, best known for her brilliant work on Joss Whedon’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Dollhouse, has now been cast in an upcoming pilot, The Saint.
Deadline report that Dushku is set to star opposite Adam Rayner (Hunted, Hawthorne) in the backdoor pilot – a standalone episode that can be broadcast even if it isn’t picked up to series – bringing a new take to the original series of novels by Leslie Charteris.
“It will follow the exploits of Simon Templar (Rayner), a brilliant criminal who uses his considerable illicit skills as a modern-day Robin Hood as he infuriates local law enforcement and woos Patricia Holm (Dushku), his on-again, off-again romance.”
Roger Moore starred in an earlier adaptation back in the ’60s, which saw Moore play the role soon to be filled by Rayner, running for over a hundred episodes, and now Moore is set to serve as co-producer on the project.

Despite reports earlier this year that Rko Pictures was trying to revive the property as a film trilogy, it turns out "The Saint" franchise is instead going back to its most familiar format - television.
Adam Rayner ("Hunted", "Hawthorne") and Eliza Dushku ("Buffy the Vampire Slayer", "Dollhouse") are attached to star in a new pilot based on Leslie Charteris' book series. The books followed Simon Templar (Rayner), a thief who sees himself as a modern day Robin Hood as he steals from only other criminals - corrupt politicians, arms dealers, drug runners, white slavers and so on.
The property has been adapted many times before, most famously as a long-running 60's British TV series with Roger Moore in the title role. Phil Noyce directed a film adaptation in 1997 starring Val Kilmer and Elisabeth Shue, while Ian Ogilvy and Simon Dutton portrayed the character on the small screen in the 70's and 80's respectively.

A remake of "The Saint" is in the works, and it's snagged Joss Whedon regular Eliza Dushku for a key role.
The project -- co-produced by Roger Moore, who played The Saint in the 1962-69 British series -- comes from producer Brad Krevoy ("Dumb and Dumber," "William & Catherine: A Royal Romance"). Jesse Alexander ("Heroes," "Alias") is writing the script, Deadline reports.
British actor Adam Rayner ("Hunted," "Hawthorne") will play the title role of Simon Templar, aka The Saint, a professional thief with a Robin Hood-esque code of robbing the rich and helping the downtrodden. Dushku ("Dollhouse") will play Patricia Holm, Templar's on-and-off girlfriend and occasional partner on cases. (Holm is a recurring character in author Leslie Charteris' Saint stories but didn't appear in the 1960s TV show.)
One thing the new "Saint" doesn't have is a network home. Krevoy's company, McPa, is independently producing the TV movie/back-door pilot in hopes of landing it somewhere.

While no network is attached to the project yet, Buffy alumni Eliza Dushku and Adam Rayner have signed on to a reboot of the classic British series, The Saint. Simon West is directing the pilot from a script by Jesse Alexander –who is also set as showrunner of the project- for a new take on Leslie Charteris’ 70-book franchise. The Saint, in many ways, was the precursor to Ian Fleming’s James Bond. Launched in 1930 (though the character was introduced two-years earlier) the books were straight-forward spy thrillers. That was maintained through a few film adaptations of his books in the 1940s –though some where never actually based on them. In...
