While other horror franchises can be accused of rehashing themselves with each new entry, every part of the Rec series feels like a different movie. The original sets things into motion with staggering execution and results, and the follow-up expands on the lore. After the events of Rec 2, it made sense for Jaume Balagueró and Paco Plaza to explore the world they had created. So the duo split up for the remaining two movies in the zombie series, with Plaza taking on the third installment. While it would seem like Balagueró got the better end of the deal — his sequel Rec 4: Apocalypse ties directly into Ángela Vidal’s story — Plaza was handed a golden opportunity to do something outside the main plot.
When asked about the new changes of Rec 3: Genesis, Plaza said he and Balagueró “wanted to get some fresh air.” However, their decision didn’t sit well with everyone.

Spain’s Borja González Santaolalla, who co-penned Jaume Balagueró’s movie “Way Down,” and Ángel Agudo, a scribe on Atresmedia’s “Luimelia,” have boarded the family TV series project “Harrogate Detective Agency” as its director and co-scribe respectively.
Inspired by Agatha Christie novels, the TV series project has been created by C.J. Navas and Juan Galonce at Alicante-based outfit Fuera de Series Producciones.
“Harrogate” is a eight-episode, 25- minute series that narrates the summer mystery adventures of three little sisters at their widower grandfather’s house.
It features among five TV short-form series projects that will be pitched on Wednesday, Sept. 15 at Conecta Fiction, the international TV industry event whose fifth edition runs onsite in Pamplona Sept. 13-17. The event’s conference strand panels will also be available online.

Turner Classic Movies continues with its Gay Hollywood presentations tonight and tomorrow morning, June 8–9. Seven movies will be shown about, featuring, directed, or produced by the following: Cole Porter, Lorenz Hart, Farley Granger, John Dall, Edmund Goulding, W. Somerset Maughan, Clifton Webb, Montgomery Clift, Raymond Burr, Charles Walters, DeWitt Bodeen, and Harriet Parsons. (One assumes that it's a mere coincidence that gay rumor subjects Cary Grant and Tyrone Power are also featured.) Night and Day (1946), which could also be considered part of TCM's homage to birthday girl Alexis Smith, who would have turned 96 today, is a Cole Porter biopic starring Cary Grant as a posh, heterosexualized version of Porter. As the warning goes, any similaries to real-life people and/or events found in Night and Day are a mere coincidence. The same goes for Words and Music (1948), a highly fictionalized version of the Richard Rodgers-Lorenz Hart musical partnership.

Bill Murray may not be joining the Ghostbusters gang anytime soon for that third movie that doesn't seem to be going anywhere, but it doesn't mean he's done with the supernatural genre. The actor has just joined the voice cast of a new DreamWorks animated film called B.O.O.: Bureau of Otherworldly Operations. He'll play a villainous ghost named Addison Drake.
Also joining the cast are Jennifer Coolidge as Carol Sue, a bubbly transitions-relations officer and Octavia Spencer as the tough as nails Sr. B.O.O. officer, Captain Book. The trio will join the previously announced Seth Rogen, Melissa McCarthy, Rashida Jones, and Matt Bomer.
This supernatural action comedy is based on an original idea from director Tony Leondis, and the story follows "two bumbling apparitions who find themselves in an extraordinary after-life adventure when they join the Bureau of Otherworldly Operations (B.O.O.) – the ghost world’s elite...

[Rec]3 Genesis
Stars: Leticia Dolera, Diego Martín, Javier Botet, Àlex Monner, Ismael Martínez, Borja Glez. Santaolalla, Mireia Ros | Written by Paco Plaza, Luiso Berdejo | Directed by Paco Plaza
Going it solo for the third film in the series, Paco Plaza helms what is, by far, a much stronger film than [Rec]2 and a film that not only changes the game for the franchise, abandoning as it does the “found-footage” perspective on proceedings, but also expands the mythos and the scope of the series, throwing religion much more to the fore in a way that takes the series, and the traditional zombie film, to whole new levels. The film is also, at its core, a love story. Yes, I did say love story.

[Rec] 3: Genesis Movie Review
Today is Koldo and Clara’s wedding in the Spanish countryside and all is running smoothly…until Koldo’s uncle Victor begins showing signs of a strange illness brought on by a dog bite on his hand.
During the grand reception, Victor goes full zombie, bites another wedding guest, and all Hell breaks loose, turning the couples’ nuptials into a full-fledged nightmare, The wedding reception makes for fresh cinematic zombie territory as Koldo and Clara become separated and spend much of the remainder of the film avoiding the undead and searching for one another within the grand hall, kitchen, chapel, and grounds of the facility.
[Rec]3: Genesis is a departure from [Rec] (review) and [Rec] 2 (review) in several ways, the most obvious being its visual aesthetic. At first we think we’re back in familiar, video camera Pov territory.
