Kochi, Feb 22 (Ians) The Kerala High Court on Wednesday allowed Pulsar Suni, the prime accused in the 2017 actress assault case, to be physically present in the trial court to witness the proceedings in his trial.
The court directed the state prosecution to ensure that the same is done.
Justice K. Babu observed that permitting the accused in a case to directly witness the trial against him, is to ensure a fair trial.
Suni has been in judicial custody for around six years in connection with the case when a prominent female actor was allegedly abducted, driven around in a car, photographed and sexually assaulted on the instructions of Malayalam actor Dileep, who is also an accused and presently out on bail.
The trial is currently underway at the Principal District and Sessions Court here.

Kochi, Sep 28 (Ians) The humble stethoscope could avoid unnecessary use of more expensive investigations like echocardiography for diagnosis of cardiac defects and allow for substantial reductions in healthcare costs, as per a research study done at the Amrita Hospital here.
Published in the British Medical Journal – Paediatrics Open, the study was conducted in 545 children with suspected congenital heart defects, and systematically tested the diagnostic accuracy of physical examination of the cardiovascular system, comparing it with echocardiography, the current gold standard to diagnose heart conditions.
The study was able to differentiate normal hearts from abnormal ones with an accuracy of 95 per cent and above.
R. Krishna Kumar, Clinical Professor and Head, Paediatric Cardiology, Amrita Hospital, who led the study, said with increasing availability of ultrasound technology in cardiology in the form of echocardiography, there is a perception that physical examination of the patient with the age-old stethoscope is becoming redundant.

Kochi, Sep 27 (Ians) The Kerala High Court on Tuesday allowed a woman claiming to be separated from her husband to terminate her 21-week-old pregnancy.
Justice V.G. Arun noted that a husband’s consent is not necessary under the Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act (Mtp Act) for termination of pregnancy.
According to the rules under the Mtp Act, one of the factors for allowing termination between 20 and 24 weeks gestation is “change of marital status during the ongoing pregnancy (widowhood and divorce)”.
The court also pointed out that even though the pregnant woman wasn’t legally divorced or widowed, her changed equation with her husband, criminal complaint against him, and the fact that the husband did not show any inclination of wanting to continue with her amounts to a “drastic change in her matrimonial life”.
It further noted the Act does not require a woman to obtain her husband’s consent to terminate a pregnancy.

The Film
The new Miyazaki. That’s a description I’ve heard applied to Mamoru Hosoda over and over, and it’s never sat well with me. Notwithstanding that Hosoda has expressed critical feelings about Miyazaki’s depiction of women, or my own apathy about Miyazaki’s films, Hosoda isn’t the new anybody, nor does he need to be. He’s the first Mamoru Hosoda, and across his six solo features, he’s established a strong authorial voice and, for my money, stands out as one of the best and most exciting filmmakers working today, and not just in animation.
Belle, like Hosoda’s previous films, takes a gigantic sci-fi concept and boils it down to a tiny personal story. The setting is contemporary, but the internet seems to be dominated by an app called U, a social network which, through body sharing technology (think a less gross take...
