Samuel L. Jackson was honored at the Museum of Modern Art’s 2024 Film Benefit, presented by Chanel, on Wednesday, as a star-studded group of friends and collaborators paid tribute to the actor.
Denzel Washington, Spike Lee, Walton Goggins, Kenny Leon, wife Latanya Richardson Jackson and MoMA’s chief curator of film Rajendra Roy were all in attendance at the event, with Brie Larson and George Lucas sending video messages of support.
Lucas noted how Jackson is “not always like the parts he plays; he’s much more of a sweet, honest, good, helpful, loving guy.” Lee looked back at their early days together in Atlanta, recalling even in college thinking of Jackson and his friends, “I know that God willing, if I became a filmmaker, these great artists would be in my films.”

People have harbored a deep fascination for werewolves, vampires, witches, and ghosts for ages. While ample series and movies have been made on the supernatural theme, The Originals has managed to satisfy fans’ craving in a way like no other.
A spin-off of The Vampire Diaries, the CW show features the origin and present of the first vampires ever created: the Mikaelson family—Mikael, Finn, Elijah, Kol, Rebekah, and their half-brother and hybrid, Niklaus. While the show features all of the Mikaelson family at different times, it primarily deals with Elijah, Niklaus, and Rebekah.

The show aired from 2013 to 2018, and its five seasons were extremely gripping, exploring the emotional bonds that kept the Mikaelsons together and their battles against various supernatural threats amid constant power struggles. Riley Keough was the star of the show at the Chanel fashion show during Paris Fashion Week!
The 35-year-old actress performed a cover of Prince‘s song “When Doves Cry” while hanging from a swing inside a giant birdcage during the show on Tuesday (October 1) in Paris, France.
Riley, who is the granddaughter of the late Elvis Presley, also sings in her Prime Video series Daisy Jones and the Six.
“It was something that was meant to be joyful and fun. I felt inspired by this sort of, like, French nonchalance,” Riley told Elle. “I’m not, like, an incredibly good trained singer, but I think that if I get the opportunity [to sing], I’ll take it. It’s not a career thing at this stage of my life.”

Wilde and Feldstein are jurors for this year’s Tribeca Chanel women’s filmmaker program, which provides industry support and artistic development to 10 self-identifying women and non-binary filmmakers. The jury will decide which of these emerging filmmakers will receive full funding and support from Tribeca Studios to create a short film.
“I’m thrilled that I get to be on this jury with Beanie and to deliberate together because her taste is unmatched,” Wilde told Variety on the carpet for the Through Her Lens luncheon at Locanda Verde, the Italian restaurant in Tribeca. “She is so empathetic in the way she consumes materials with such thoughtful, emotional intelligence. Billy Howle and Phoebe Tonkin give compelling performances but, as a sports movie and a period drama, Paul Goldman’s film is going through the motions

Tent boxing is an interesting subject for a movie: a now-defunct Australian recreation positioned on the Venn diagram overlay between sports event and circus act, involving troupes of fighters performing low-rent spectacles for outback audiences.
It’s at the centre of director Paul Goldman’s 70s-set drama Kid Snow, whose scruffy titular character – played by Billy Howle – is a bottomed-out Irish boxer who has become part of this world, working for a show run by his brother Rory (Tom Bateman).

Torrey DeVitto had zero hesitations about her decision to not return to The Vampire Diaries following her divorce from Paul Wesley.
The Pretty Little Liars alum, who played Dr. Meredith Fell in seasons 3 and 4 of the hit supernatural drama, was married to Wesley, who starred as Stefan Salvatore, from 2011 to 2013. However, DeVitto shared on a recent episode of Rachel Bilson’s Broad Ideas podcast that she went through a “really dark time” post-split.
“It was [public],” she explained. “It was the first time I did something like that. Because he was on a really big show that was really popular, so it did draw [attention].”
As a result, DeVitto admitted that she had no interest in continuing to work on The Vampire Diaries with Wesley following their divorce.

This year has already proved it’s fruitful in high-class horror movies that bring new motifs and techniques to the genre or address its classics. Earlier in 2024 we saw such gems as Late Night with the Devil, Infested, Abigail, Immaculate and The First Omen.
However, there is one movie that is a rare guest of the year’s best horror lists, but it certainly deserves our attention. It is also proved by the fact it is now holding the third place in HBO’s global top and is gaining more and more viewership on the platform.
The plot revolves around Gwen, a young woman who takes up a job at a remote motel. While working her first night shift there, she starts suspecting she’s not alone in the hallways, and there is a character from her troubled past watching her. However, Gwen is quick to realize that it’s...

Night Shift, from Benjamin China and Paul China, is a horror film about a hotel you don’t want to visit. The Bates Motel and The Overlook Hotel are worse places, but The All Tucked Inn is definitely on my list of Vacation Spots To Be Avoided. Its kitschy name is really the most fun thing about it. The building is worn, the guest rooms are sparse and bedraggled, there are decades-old taxidermied animals everywhere, and you can practically smell the musty order through the screen. And there are rats. It’s safe to say this hotel has seen better days.
That being said, it is absolutely the kind of hotel you don’t mind visiting vicariously through a screen. While you’re snuggled up safe on your rat-free couch, you can enjoy the experience of watching someone else roam the dark hallways and explore the dusty rooms and deal...

Up until recently I worked the night shift in a hotel, so I know how creepy it can feel at times, especially when you’re getting used to the place with all of the building’s odd little noises and quirks. That’s the position Gwen finds herself in.
Recently moved into the area and in need of money, she’s answered an ad for a temporary overnight position at the All Tucked Inn. The owner Teddy, who seems to be making his story up as he goes along, tells her the woman who regularly does the job has been sidelined with medical issues. He’d love to stay and help, but he has a date. But there’s nothing to worry about, this is a quiet, peaceful place where nothing ever happens.

Although Phoebe Tonkin was in the 2012 shark thriller Bait and the high profile 2022 flop Babylon, most viewers probably know her from her work in television: she has been on multiple episodes H2O: Just Add Water, Home and Away, The Secret Circle, The Vampire Diaries, The Originals, Westworld, Safe Harbour, and more. I just finished watching a Netflix series she was in, Boy Swallows Universe, which I thought was pretty great. Now Tonkin has the lead role in a thriller called Night Shift, which just received a VOD and limited theatrical release today, courtesy of Quiver Distribution. Exclusive: Oscar nominee Carey Mulligan (Promising Young Woman) is to star in and exec-produce historical-fiction podcast series The Foxes of Hydesville, which will also feature Mckenna Grace (Handmaid’s Tale), Phoebe Tonkin (Babylon) and Christina Brucato (The Menu).
The nine-episode series is inspired by the true story of the Fox sisters, whose controversial, supposed talent for speaking to the dead inadvertently helped spawn the religion of modern Spiritualism.
The three sisters heralded from Rochester, New York, and found success as mediums in the 19th Century. The two younger sisters used “rappings” to convince their older sister and others that they were communicating with spirits. Their older sister then took charge of them and managed their careers. After finding success, in 1888 one sister confessed that their rappings had been a hoax and publicly demonstrated their method. Their reputation was ruined and in less than five years they were all dead.

Billie Eilish and boyfriend Jesse Rutherford had a sweet date night at the Vanity Fair Oscars Party on March 12. The couple attended the annual afterparty for the first time, holding hands and sharing loving glances as they posed together on the red carpet in Beverly Hills. Eilish, 21, commanded attention in a black Rick Owens gown with a voluminous tulle skirt, while Rutherford, 31, wore a black suit and clown makeup. Inside the celebration, they linked up with Eilish's brother Finneas and his girlfriend, Claudia Sulewski, along with other stars like Regé-Jean Page, Sofia Carson, and Phoebe Tonkin.
Eilish, who won an Oscar for her and Finneas's song "No Time to Die" last year, has been linked to Rutherford since they were spotted kissing in October. She seemingly confirmed their relationship on Nov. 1 with an Instagram photo of their coordinating Halloween costumes, and they soon after made their red carpet debut in...

They’re back. Rlje Films presents the Stephen King reboot Children of the Corn by Kurt Wimmer on 500+ screens. It’s a redo of the classic 1984 slasher-horror film about kids possessed by a demonic spirit in a dying cornfield, with bloody, rampaging results.
King’s iconic short story features a 12-year-old Nebraska girl who recruits the kids in her small town for a killing spree of all the adults, and anyone else who opposes her. A bright high schooler who won’t go along with the plan is the town’s only hope of survival. There are some new twists, in Wimmer’s version, the corn is genetically modified. Starring Elena Kampouris, Kate Moyer, Callan Mulvey and Bruce Spence.
The story is great, spawning numerous spinoffs beginning with Children of the Corn II: The Final Sacrifice in 1992 followed by Children of the Corn III: Urban Harvest in 1995. Most went direct to video.
