Buenos Aires — Marking what looks very much like a new record for animation in Latin America, Edward Noeltner’s Cinema Management Group, the sales company behind Oscar-nominated “Loving Vincent,” has pre-sold “Ainbo – Spirit of the Amazon” to over half the planet.
“Ainbo” was picked up by Cmg in January 2017 off the first edition of Ventana Sur Animation!, where Tunche Films presented a teaser promo. Produced by Gullane Films and Walter Salles’ Videofilmes, Sergio Machado’s “Noah’s Ark – A Musical Adventure,” a Cmg acquisition off last year’s Animation!, has now pre-sold to 16 international distributors. Sales on “Noah’s Ark,” a flagship for the high artistic and commercial ambitions of Brazilian animation, suggest once more the resilient appeal of striking, high-end foreign animation in the international market as a theatrical proposition.
Deals on “Ainbo,” directed by Peru’s José Zelada, take in half the world’s major markets: China (Turbo Films...

Blazing on the red-hot heels of its latest award-winning collaboration with the U.K.’s Magic Light Pictures, the Cape Town-based studio is going back to the successful feature-length formula that turned its first two films, “Adventures in Zambezia” (2012) and “Khumba” (2013), into two of the five top-grossing South African movies of all time.
“We’re delighted to be returning to our own IP after honing our skills on Magic Light Pictures’ BBC Christmas specials, like the Oscar-nominated ‘Revolting Rhymes,’” says Triggerfish’s head of development, Anthony Silverston.

On the plus side, I went to a brand new horror festival on the very massive and still spooky Queen Mary cruise liner, dry docked in Long Beach, California. It’s the perfect venue for a blood fest. They even do ghost tours because the place is so haunted. On the down side, the predicable and clichéd film I watched, Fingerprints. The premise is pretty cool: urban legend has it that in the one town of Emerald, if you stop your car on the train tracks, the ghosts of dead children who got splattered there, will push your car off and leave their fingerprints. It’s all to do with dead children who play around train tracks because sometime during the 1950s a whole bunch apparently was hit by a train.
