Director: Tigmanshu Dhulia, Screenplay: Tigmanshu Dhulia and Sanjay Chouhan, Actors: Jimmy Sheirgill, Mahie Gill, Randeep Hooda
In the context of contemporary Hindi cinema, Tigmanshu Dhulia is an important filmmaker. He is one director who has a keen eye and ear for north Indian socio-politics, which was amply reflected in his debut feature film Haasil. Since Haasil, he has made Charas and Shagird, which somehow fell quite short of the levels he had achieved as a filmmaker in Haasil, and the yet-unreleased Paan Singh Tomar, based on the real-life story of an international athlete-turned-Chambal dacoit.
With Sahib, Biwi Aur Gangster, Dhulia has reclaimed his place as a fine visual narrator of dramatic stories, a position that he had achieved through Haasil but yielded in his two subsequent released films. Indeed, Sbag is one of the significant mainstream pieces of cinema that captures a fictional story with sublime reflections of contemporary socio-political...

Absolute power corrupts absolutely. And the power to create a cinema that takes the prevalent language of narration into the domain of the dark and unpredictable, is a privilege belonging to some politically savvy filmmakers. Sudhir Mishra tops the list. Tigmanshu Dhulia follows close behind.
The manner in which Dhulia brings into foreplay the murky sleazy politics of Uttar Pradesh, is remarkable for the fusion of lies and truth with the borderline between the two extremes simply blurring.
Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster is an audacious tongue-in-cheek homage to Guru Dutt’s timeless classic Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam. Don’t believe the director’s protestations to the contrary. Dhulia’s film even opens with an unabashed tribute to Guru Dutt’s film with skeletons being dug out during an excavation.
There onwards there are plenty of skeletons tumbling out of secret places in the Zamindar(Jimmy Sheirgill)’s bedroom and other workplaces,...

Who would have thought that the girl who started off with a sexy music video, would be taken quite seriously by our film-makers.The girl in question is none other than dusky beauty Deepal Shaw, who began her career as the 'Baby Doll', easily pleased her critics with serious cinema right from her debut film 'Kalyug' and then 'A Wednesday' & recently 'Vikalp'. Deepal's lucky streak continues as she will be soon be seen paired opposite Irrfan Khan in 'Bangkok Blues' as well as in Tigmanshu Dhulia's 'Sahib, Bibi aur Gangster' portraying the role of Waheeda Rehman from the classic 'Sahib, Bibi aur Ghulam'. Deepal is surely proving that she is much more than just a glamorous baby doll.
