Joe Harkins is a Visual Effects Supervisor known for his work on VFX driven films featuring computer generated (CG) character work. He most recently worked on Gods of Egypt (2016) and The Legend of Tarzan (2016).
He was granted a patent from Sony Pictures Entertainment for co-inventing a muscle system used at Imageworks on Beowulf (2007), Spider-Man 3 (2007), I Am Legend (2007), and Ghost Rider (2007). Joe was also nominated in 2012 for an MTV VMA for his work on David Guetta's "Turn Me On" music video featuring an all-CG Nicki Minaj performance, and contributed visual effects to Oscar winners Hugo (2011), Avatar (2009) and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008), as well as the Oscar nominated Iron Man 2 (2010).
Joe began his career in the commercial division of Reel FX, in Dallas, Texas and moved into feature film visual effects at Tippett Studio in Berkeley, CA on The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (2003) where he worked as a Creature TD. While at Tippett Joe also worked on The Matrix Revolutions (2003), Hellboy (2004), and Constantine (2005). He then went onto Sony Pictures Imageworks where he was tapped to supervise the creature work on Warner Bros. I Am Legend (2007).
Joe was born and raised in Fort Worth, Texas. He graduated from Full Sail University in Winter Park, Florida with a degree in Computer Animation and also received an MBA from The Graziadio School of Business and Management at Pepperdine University in Malibu, California.
