An ancient Japanese legend tells the story of 47 samurai, seeking revenge on a rival warlord who killed their master and banished them from their homeland, making them ‘Ronin’. 47 Ronin is the Hollywood take on this legend, throwing magic, giant beasts and fantasy adventure into the mix as the Ronin, lead by a ‘half breed’ known as ‘Kai’ (Keanu Reeves), seek to destroy Lord Kira (Tadanobu Asano) and his witch protector (Rinko Kikuchi) and restore their honour.
The first thing to be said about 47 Ronin is that it is very CGI heavy. Some people find that kind of thing very annoying, although in this case I felt it did add a lot to the film. The magic felt a lot more potent,...

The film pays homage to the legendary 47 Ronin, who according to folklore, in the 17th century wreaked a terrible vengeance on the official who had unjustly condemned their Lord Asano Naganori to death. They then placed the severed head of their.

The last we saw from 47 Ronin was the fantasy-fuelled trailer earlier in the month, and now Universal has launched another trailer that continues to tease a promising blend of action and fantasy in the December blockbuster.
The studio has just under two months before putting the film into theatres, arriving on both sides of that Atlantic over the Christmas period. And along with releasing the new trailer below, via MSN, there’s also a new poster to enjoy, with Keanu Reeves standing tall over his co-stars.
After a treacherous warlord kills their master and banishes their kind, 47 leaderless samurai vow to seek vengeance and restore honor to their people. Driven from their homes and dispersed across the land, this band of Ronin must seek the help of Kai (Reeves)—a half-breed they once rejected—as they fight their way across a savage world of mythic beasts, shape-shifting witchcraft and wondrous terrors.

Turning the true story of the 47 Ronin into a fantastical action blockbuster, Carl Rinsch’s upcoming 47 Ronin has long been earmarked as a must-see movie on the radar.
Due out this Christmas, Universal launched the first trailer back in the summer, and soon followed it with another great Japanese trailer. And with the countdown well and truly on, the studio has launched a new UK trailer, teasing more from the epic actioner.

The long-awaited 47 Ronin is finally heading into cinemas this December, and the Keanu Reeves-led blockbuster looks set to be one of the biggest movies of the year.
The first trailer launched earlier in the summer, teasing a look at the fantasy-actioner, (very) loosely based on the true story of the 47 Ronin. And now a new international trailer and poster have landed online, via Cbm and Imp Awards, teasing another look at what looks to be a lot of fun coming our way soon.

I
spent a lot of time at the movies this past weekend. On Friday, I finally got to see Pacific Rim again, and it was just as much fun seeing it a second time. And on Sunday, I saw The Conjuring with a friend, and while I’m certainly not an authority of any kind on horror films, I thought it was quite good. We’re almost to the beginning of August, and the summer movie season will be starting to wind down. And speaking of looking beyond summer, this week’s Trailer Trashin’ examines our first look at this Christmas’ long-delayed fantasy/action film 47 Ronin.
Premise: The outcast Kai (Keanu Reeves) joins a group of Ronin, led by Kuranosuke Oishi (Hiroyuki Sanada), who seek vengeance on Lord Kira (Tadanobu Asano), who killed their master and banished the group. The Ronin embark on a journey whose challenges would defeat most warriors.

Loosely based* on the classic real-life story of the forty-seven Ronin, Keanu Reeves will be returning to the action/genre for which we love him in the long-awaited 47 Ronin.
The film has been pushed back a number of times in recent months, and was originally to head into theatres towards the end of last year. Universal seem to have finally settled on a Christmas Day release in the States this year. And now they’ve launched a very impressive first trailer, via Apple, along with some great new posters.
Keanu Reeves makes an explosive return to action-adventure in 47 Ronin.

I haven’t really kept up on the news for 47 Ronin, other than knowing it’s had a troubled production. The film was actually supposed to be released in November of last year. There have been a few bits and pieces of art released but nothing much…until now.
The trailer is…well lets just say it’s one of those trailers that paints the movie as being a heck of a lot of fun…or a disaster, depending on your point of view. Personally, I think it looks like 47 Ronin could be a lot of fun. As I said before, I was not familiar with what kind of story they were telling so the supernatural/fantasy aspects took me by surprise.
Check it out for yourself below!

Taking quite a few liberties with the popular Japanese tale of the real life 47 Ronin (masterless samurai) who avenged the life of their master in 18th Century, this martial arts/ fantasy mash-up see's Keanu Reeves as the half-British, half-Japanese Kai (a character created especially for the film), an outcast who falls in with a band of Ronin who seek revenge on the Lord who killed their master and banished them. From the first trailer, you can't call it historically accurate, but director Carl Erik Rinsch has created a visually impressive adventure movie, with some very good special effects (though the yellow robed monks at the end look quite dodgy). Reeves is joined by some famous japanese actors, including Hiroyuki Sanada, Jin Akanishi, and Rinko Kikuchi. Released: 25th December (U.S.)/ 26th December (U.K./Irl)...

Pretty minor stuff here, but here's the first look at Keanu Reeves in costume for the Carl Erik Rinsch film 47 Ronin. The movie is a remake, in name at least, of a Japanese film from 1947, but what we've heard about the film so far suggests that Rinch is going for something a bit more his own than just a straight remake. The story has been around far longer than sixty-some years, so Rinsch has many previous versions to draw on, but also the leeway to give his own spin on the tale. (Which includes shooting this version in 3D.) Rinsch is noted for being a Ridley Scott protege, and he was once attached to direct a film related to Alien way before that movie evolved into Prometheus, with Scott taking directorial duties. Rinsch was also set to direct Logan's Run before dropping off that project (making room for Nicolas Winding Refn) and to make [1] 47 Ronin.

On Thursday, the official website for Carl Erik Rinsch’s upcoming big-budget Hollywood adaptation of 47 Ronin was updated with the announcement that actor and former Kat-tun vocalist Jin Akanishi has been cast in the movie.
The announcement goes on to say that this will mark Akanishi’s Hollywood debut and touts his huge popularity with Japanese youth.
Akanishi will play Chikara Oishi, son Hiroyuki Sanada’s character Oishi and a sworn friend of Keanu Reeves’s character Kai.
He participated in an audition in Hollywood, where he showed extraordinary passion for the role through his sword fighting and horse riding training. Rinch heaped on the praise, stating that Akanishi is the only one who could play Chikara.
“47 Ronin” will be released in November 2012.
