The friendships on New Girl are just as important to the series as the romantic relationships. The show wouldn’t be what it is without the unique dynamics of the central friend group, both as a whole and within different pairings. Some friendships on the show are more expected, like Cece (Hannah Simone) and Jess (Zooey Deschanel), and are there from the beginning to the end of the series. Others kind of appear out of nowhere, like Nick (Jake Johnson) and Tran (Ralph Ahn), and yet it’s hard to imagine the show without them.
New Girl is a great reminder at how important it is to let comedies explore relationships both within and outside of the core friend group. It’s one thing to see how the characters get along as a whole, but pairing people off who may or may not have much in common initially is an...

TV crossovers and interconnected universes are the best things when it comes to fandom. But they can be super tricky, for it involves combining separate ongoing storylines into one project. It’s a daunting task for the creative group, which if not done correctly can end up being like Zooey Deschanel’s New Girl and Brooklyn 99 crossover.
Zooey Deschanel as Jessica Day in New Girl
Although people appreciated watching Zooey Deschanel in Brooklyn 99, it wasn’t a great idea to combine the comedy styles of the two shows. Further, what created the biggest mess out of the crossover was featuring the same actors in different roles in the two shows.

J.K. Simmons has joined the cast of Jason Reitman’s SNL 1975, and not only will the Oscar winner be playing Hollywood legend Milton Berle, but he’ll have the notable distinction of becoming the first actual SNL host to join the cast of the Sony movie.
Simmons hosted the Jan. 31, 2015 episode of Saturday Night Live, which featured D’Angelo as the musical guest. At the time, Simmons was riding high off an Oscar nomination for Whiplash, and he would go on to win the Academy Award following his SNL hosting stint.

Up until recently I worked the night shift in a hotel, so I know how creepy it can feel at times, especially when you’re getting used to the place with all of the building’s odd little noises and quirks. That’s the position Gwen finds herself in.
Recently moved into the area and in need of money, she’s answered an ad for a temporary overnight position at the All Tucked Inn. The owner Teddy, who seems to be making his story up as he goes along, tells her the woman who regularly does the job has been sidelined with medical issues. He’d love to stay and help, but he has a date. But there’s nothing to worry about, this is a quiet, peaceful place where nothing ever happens.

Although Phoebe Tonkin was in the 2012 shark thriller Bait and the high profile 2022 flop Babylon, most viewers probably know her from her work in television: she has been on multiple episodes H2O: Just Add Water, Home and Away, The Secret Circle, The Vampire Diaries, The Originals, Westworld, Safe Harbour, and more. I just finished watching a Netflix series she was in, Boy Swallows Universe, which I thought was pretty great. Now Tonkin has the lead role in a thriller called Night Shift, which just received a VOD and limited theatrical release today, courtesy of Quiver Distribution. Taraji P. Henson is going to keep telling her truth.
As she took the stage at the 2024 ABFF Honors on Sunday night, “The Color Purple” star pointed to a tattoo on her left bicep that spells out those words exactly: “The Truth.”
“If you are alive and God blessed you with another day to live, it is your job to tell your truth,” Henson told the crowd gathered for the American Black Film Festival’s marquee gala. “Because by you telling your truth, you set yourself free and somebody else free. When we stay quiet, nothing changes. The squeaky wheel gets fixed.”
That ideology is something Henson’s learned to keep close over the years, particularly when it comes to navigating Hollywood.

Zoe Lister-Jones was proud to attend Sunday’s Spirit Awards, and the reason is twofold. First, the multihyphenate talent turned up in Santa Monica to support a pair of nominations for Roku’s Slip, the original series she created, starred in and executive produced alongside a team that includes Dakota Johnson. Reason No. 2: She did so by walking into the event hand-in-hand with a new love in her life.
When the subject of her plus-one came up during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the 41-year-old Lister-Jones responded with a big reveal: “I’m here, I’m queer, I have some fear but I’m working through it.” Lister-Jones is in a new relationship with a fellow filmmaker, Sammi Cohen, who most recently directed Netflix’s You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah, the teen comedy starring Adam Sandler and family including wife Jackie and their daughters Sadie and Sunny.

Jason Reitman is staying mighty busy these days. Less than 24 hours after the release of the latest trailer for "Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire," four major casting announcements were made for his next project, "SNL 1975." The film will attempt to tell the true story of what went on behind the scenes before the broadcast premiere of "Saturday Night Live" on NBC, highlighting the real-time bedlam with some of the most legendary names in American comedy. Reitman co-wrote the script with his "Ghostbusters" collaborator Gil Kenan and is basing the story on the firsthand accounts of those who were there. Lest we forget, Reitman's father is the legendary Ivan Reitman, so these comedy titans were the friends and colleagues of the family. If anyone can get serious insight, it's Reitman.

While they've been focused on their Ghostbusters films of late, with the newest, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire less than two months away now, Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan have also been putting the pieces together for something that draws on no little amount of nostalgia (not to mention a connection to Dan Aykroyd): SNL 1975, about the fraught first night of Saturday Night Live. The duo (with Reitman directing and Kenan writing) have built the cast and are now adding Lamorne Morris, Dylan O’Brien, Cory Michael Smith and Matt Wood to the line-up.
Here's the official synopsis: "On October 11, 1975, a ferocious troupe of young comedians and writers changed television forever. FX’s hit television show Fargo just wrapped up its fifth season. Fargo loosely based on the 1996 movie of the same name first debuted on the network way back in 2014. Each season of the show follows a mostly new cast of characters who get involved with murder investigations in different Midwestern towns. Each crime is somehow connected.
Season five was no different from the past seasons. The fifth season of Fargo follows It stars Juno Temple as Dorothy “Dot” Lyon, a seemingly typical Midwestern housewife living in Scandia, Minnesota, whose mysterious past comes back to haunt her after she lands in hot water with the authorities. Season five also stars Jennifer Jason Leigh, Jon Hamm, Joe Keery, Lamorne Morris, Dave Foley, and Sam Spruell.
The cast and the stories may change throughout the seasons of Fargo, but there has been one person from the beginning that we owe a big thank you to.

[This story contains spoilers from Fargo’s season five finale, “Bisquik.”]
For Fargo season five star Juno Temple, nothing was going to get in the way of Dorothy “Dot” Lyon’s mostly happy ending.
When the dust settled on Noah Hawley’s tremendous fifth season of Fargo, Dot finally overcame her wickedly abusive ex-husband Roy Tillman (Jon Hamm), his hired gun who happened to be a 500-year-old sin-eater named Ole Munch (Sam Spruell) and her mistrustful mother-in-law, Lorraine Lyon (Jennifer Jason Leigh). Dot thought her quarrel with Munch was settled when he saved her and freed her at Roy’s ranch so she could put a stop to the latter’s vicious cycle of abuse once and for all, but a year after Roy ended up in handcuffs, Dot and her daughter Scotty (Sienna King) arrived home to see Munch sitting in their living room with their respective, unsuspecting husband and father, Wayne (David Rysdahl...

[This story contains major spoilers from the season five finale of Fargo.]
When speaking about the essence of Fargo, show creator Noah Hawley says every season only needs two things: an element of crime, and decency. Few characters embodied those ideas better in season five than Witt Farr, the more than decent state trooper bravely battling a criminal element all season long to help out Juno Temple’s Dorothy Lyon.
Played by New Girl and Woke alum Lamorne Morris, Farr barely made it out of the season premiere alive, when Sam Spruell’s menacing Ole Munch came knocking on Dot’s door. Unfortunately, Farr was not able to cheat death twice. Morris’ straight-and-narrow state trooper was the major casualty in the season five finale, killed by Jon Hamm’s menacing Roy Tillman. Farr pursued a fleeing Tillman into a tunnel, and had the man dead to rights, but decided he could not shoot in cold blood. That decent decision costs Farr his life,...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Fargo Year 5, Episode 10, “Bisquik.”] When it comes to Noah Hawley‘s FX anthology series Fargo, not every character who graces our screens can walk away from the ensuing chaos and in Year 5, one of those unfortunate casualties was North Dakota detective Witt Farr (Lamorne Morris) who met his end in the finale episode, “Bisquik.” Crossing paths with Juno Temple‘s Dot in the premiere episode, Witt’s life was saved by the Minnesota housewife during a shootout at a gas station. Realizing something was amiss, Witt didn’t let Dot’s odd behavior go and eventually learned that she was trying to evade her abusive first husband, Roy Tillman (Jon Hamm). Everything came to a head in the finale episode as Witt led a team of operatives into the Tillman Ranch to help recover Dot who had been captured by Roy and his crew. Witt knew it for a fact...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Fargo Year 5, Episode 10, “Bisquik.”] Fargo‘s fifth year has finally come to a close, and it didn’t stray from the strange as the last shot of the finale episode, “Bisquik,” closed on the face of Sam Spruell’s Ole Munch, the centuries-old sin eater who sought payment for the debt he believed Dot (Juno Temple) owed him. But before the action led him to her front door a year after the raid at Tillman Ranch, Dot’s quest to rid her life of Roy (Jon Hamm) finally came to fruition. Surprising him with a shotgun on the front porch of his farmhouse, Dot shoots Roy, but that’s also the moment Witt Farr (Lamorne Morris) and the raiding authorities reach the property, sparking a fire fight. Witt pulls Dot to the ground, shielding her with his body, but in the chaos of it all, Roy manages to get away,...

Antecedently on Fargo season five, Juno Temple’s Dorothy Lyon battled against a centuries-old sin eater named Ole Munch (Sam Spruell), reckoned with her violent ex-husband and current lawman Roy Tillman (Jon Hamm), all while negotiating family politics with her mother-in-law Lorraine (Jennifer Jason Leigh), and receiving assistance from good souls like deputy Indira Olmstead (Richa Moorjani) and state trooper Witt Farr (Lamorne Morris).
Now, all of those characters are done struggling, at least on screen, and one of them is done struggling forever, thanks to a blade in the dark. A 10-episode season is far too short a time to spend with Dot, Wayne, Scotty, Lorraine, Witt, Roy, Indira, and, yes, even Gator. Unfortunately, that’s all we get with FX’s Fargo season five as episode 10, “Bisquik,” brings the second-best season of the series to a close.
The season finale opens with the now-blind Gator (Joe Keery) deserted by his dad and left to make it back to the ranch on his own. He whines as he repeatedly falls and then eventually makes it into the secret tunnel almost by accident.

This article contains spoilers for Fargo season 5 episode 10 and No Country for Old Men.
After an underwhelming fourth season, FX’s Fargo found excellence again with season 5. The fifth season of this anthology series inspired by the Coen Brothers’ film and created by TV auteur Noah Hawley returned to the “present” (or 2019 at least) for an inspired yarn about family, debt, and the creeping fascistic rot in small town America.
The cast was at the top of their game including Juno Temple (Ted Lasso) as the resourceful Dorothy “Dot” Lyon and Jon Hamm (Mad Men) as “constitutional” sheriff Roy Tillman. Fargo season 5 didn’t need to stick the landing for its 10-episode saga about Dot winning her life back from the abusive Roy to have weight. Still, a good ending would have been one hell of a bonus. That ending arrives in the final episode “Bisquik” and thankfully, it’s a good one.

This post contains spoilers for the season finale of Fargo, now available on FX and streaming tomorrow on Hulu.
At the end of Fargo the movie, justice is mostly done. The kidnapping orchestrated by Jerry Lundegaard, and carried out by Carl Showalter and Gaear Grimsrud, results in a lot of deaths and heartbreak. But Gaear kills Carl (and feeds his body into a wood chipper), Jerry gets arrested, and Marge Gunderson — as morally upright a person as you’ll find in a Coen brothers movie — catches Gaear. As she drives him to jail,...

A variety of fashion trends carried over from the 2024 Golden Globe Awards, notably in the crimson-hued dresses worn by Dua Lipa, Abby Elliott and others. Rose details, seen on the custom Balmain gown worn by Margot Robbie, as well as with the rosettes that cascaded down the shoulder of Emily Blunt’s Giorgio Armani Privé gown were also notable. New trends that emerged at the 29th Critics Choice Awards included black as the dominant color in gowns, such as Angela Bassett’s Pamella Roland design or best actress winner Emma Stone’s custom Louis Vuitton. But voluminous white looks also ruled the carpet,...
