Grant Taylor(VII)
- Music Department
Singer, Songwriter, Producer, Vocal Coach and
Actor. Raised on a ranch in Northern California, Grant
was riding horses at age 5 and four wheeling by age 10. How this all resulted
in a career in the entertainment field is still somewhat of a mystery.
Grant says he can't remember a time when he did not sing, from his
earliest memories onward.
Church choir was a challenge as Grant only liked the solo parts but he did his best. Musicals in high school segued into a brief stint with an opera coach in college. About six months in, Grant was told he had the golden mask. He didn't know what that meant but he did know that opera was not a lot of fun. He packed up and joined a rock band which was totally free and high energy work. Grant wrote some songs for the bands as he went along but the constant turnover of band members finally got to him. He took his first steps as a solo artist, hired the musicians and started writing and recording his own material. His first solo album, "The Journey", gained traction and VooDoo Boy climbed to number 13 on the charts. It was played 35 times a week on one radio station in Hawaii and they actually named a bar after the song.
Grant started to widen his horizons after this album and tour were done. His close personal friend, Judy Davis, passed away in 2001. She was the legendary vocal coach of the singing world. One of her clients begged Grant to help him with his voice and Grant finally agreed after six months of relentless pressure. It turns out Grant had the aptitude for the work based on his own experience, and so he did some coaching as he went along.
Grant is producing albums for clients and writing new material. He also has about 80 songs recorded which are ready to release so those will be coming out soon. He is also working on an album of original material for Roslyn Kind.
